Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

  9:11am Dan B from Upstate:

  9:11am Julie:

  9:16am anne:

  9:16am Jay/ London:

  9:17am ?:

Slept some on the floor. Not bad. Feeling good.
  9:17am Julie:

I had about 45 minutes during Keili
  9:17am Sean:

Aaaaagh! I made it all weekend without hearing this! Now I've lost The Game!
  9:19am Jay/ London:

@ julie thats something .. what about clay with the funny voice
  9:20am Scorpions:

hmm, not quite the same, is it?
  9:28am T-Zero:

PSEG says due to flooding they're taking the power station down. Will that affect WFMU?
  9:28am G:

I've five miles north of Coney Island, where the storm came onshore, and I've seen worse wind multiple times every summer when there's a big thunderstorm. That big weekend rainstorm earlier this month was much worse. I have a feeling Bloomberg overreacted as some sort of make-good for being in Bermuda during the blizzard. Like people always say, Don't buy the hype!
  9:29am Jay/ London:

has wfmu got back up ??
  9:31am drewo:

Wow! You pulled an all-nighter? You two are now WFMU legends!
  9:31am T-Zero:

They said it would be the Duffield Street station in Jersey City and the Marshall Street substation in Hoboken
  9:33am Jay/ London:

are you trying to beat glen Jones 100 + record
  9:39am moose:

good morning- is it over? can i open my windows?
  9:40am G:

@moose: Heap big nothing, unless you had a leaky roof before the hurricane ( = WFMU) :-)
  9:40am Lisa:

It's like Black 47, Funky Ceili. Gaelic word for musical celebration.
  9:41am Dan B From Upstate:

Public Service Electric and Gas.
  9:42am Toots:

  9:43am T-Zero:

I agree, Julie about being prepared. They also couldn't predict it's intensity and it was downgraded from what they originally thought.
  9:43am Lisa:

She also wore an American Flag bikini under her gown!
  9:43am Lucas:

Yes I saw that picture!!
  9:44am Jay/ London:

  9:44am Lisa:

  9:45am Bill:

  9:46am Lisa:

  9:49am frenchee:

  9:50am trish:

This map of hash tags from twitter is kinda interesting : http://www.cs.colorado.edu/~starbird/TtT_Irene_map_byEvent.html

No idea what percentage is false.
  9:52am Lisa:

@Frenchee- I just saw a report from the boardwalk. There was absolutely nothing going on. The reporter was trying to play like it was important, but he started laughing.
  9:53am G:

I'm five miles north of Coney, and wind is under 20 miles an hour with no rain at all. Maybe right on the beach itself there is some surge, I don't know. The weather was worse yesterday when there were some downpours for awhile. The storm must have totally petered out overnight if I am near the center of it.
  9:55am frenchee:

NO Frenchee isn't saying anthing about the boardwalk, LISA is answering me.
  9:55am Dan B From Upstate:

The wind FINALLY just started up here.
  9:56am frenchee:

Hi Lisa
  9:57am Dan B From Upstate:

Utica area, no I'm not DJ Dan Bodah. Nice fella, though.
  9:57am Momager:

One of DJ K's anatomy drawings:
  9:58am Lisa:

Hey Frenchee! Hurricane dress?
  10:00am stuart:

what about "Ride the Wild Surf" by Jan & Dean, or "Here comes the rain" by the Mavericks (not to be confused with "here comes that rainy day feeling again" by the Fortunes...
  10:00am Jay/ London:

live rescue in new york underway
  10:00am frenchee:

I'm wearing the paisley culottes as Otto and I venture out into the murk.
  10:01am gina k:

Boston: I was worried last night about getting my dog to poo before the storm hit. Otherwise she'd be indoors all day whining. Got up really early to take her out and it was just mysteriously misty, kind of nice.
  10:01am Lisa:

culottes. The best word.
  10:01am Lisa:

Remember Doris the Finkasaurus?
  10:02am BSI:

Down in Bedrock....... Twitch! Twitch!
  10:03am frenchee:

Not a capri pant
Ask Fabio what a capri pant is
  10:03am G:

Clay "looked up" culottes? No comment!
  10:03am Lisa:

No. Those are Gauchos Julie.
culottes are shorts with a flap in the front to make them look like a skirt.
  10:04am frenchee:

Then I'm not in culottes I'm in a playsuit.
  10:05am trish:

What's a skort, then?
  10:06am Dan B From Upstate:

O-Bam-a Margera?
  10:06am Lisa:

I was wrong! Culottes are short or as long as gauchos. What I was describing is a "Skort".
  10:06am G:

A commercial about 1971, 40 freaking years ago!
  10:07am frenchee:

I am so confused. Maybe I should take off my clothes.
  10:07am Lisa:

  10:07am Lisa:

We got married when she was 3 1/2
  10:08am G:

The dirt on DJ Mama! YEAH!
  10:09am BSI:

Is everything ok at the station? Leaks? Basement?
Hope everything is ok down there.
  10:32am Parq:

Julie, I had those dreams after my parents died, too.
  10:33am Buzzard:

Love Intellectual Plankton discussions from the tide pool stirring the morning ferment. Free the 8,700 incarcerated stormrunners! Under the guise of providing safe havens, they have no food, 3 hour bathroom lines and armed guards. Pity the fool who didn't bring extra batteries for their radio for your all night blast... we luv ya!
  10:37am clay:

TY Buzzard! Pretty leaky here. Main control room has buckets everywhere. Turntable 2 took a bath. 4th floor bathroom ceiling sagging. Have had nothing but Mountain Dew for 36-hours.
  10:39am Buzzard:

See what female companionship will get you?
  10:39am Lisa:

I am not coming for the tequila run. I'll take you all for mango martinis at Song in Brooklyn.
  10:40am Parq:

You should be playing the Weird Al version.
  10:40am Minnesota Jeff:

Whoa, fell asleep with Clay & Julie on, wake up hours later and Clay & Julie are still on! RADIO WARRIORS!
  10:41am Bad Ronald:

Tequila shots fer everyone! Lovin' the radio - thanks. Keep your noses dry!
  10:45am fxo:

what's next, goldfish swallowing?
  10:45am Buzzard:

And to all the DJs who couldn't make it to work, I have two words..... Inner Tubes.
  10:45am Bad Ronald:

swordfish swallowing!
  10:47am Jay/ London:

  10:52am mark:

Goodnight Irene
  10:54am Geddy Lee:

  10:55am Buzzard:

Irene anticipation? CNN says maybe 15 inches to go. Got a Weather Rock, or are you using Turntable #2? No hand dryers yet folks...
  10:56am Lisa:

I'm gonna start drinking. Keilidh - stay with the sane people in Jersey City!
  10:58am Dan B From Upstate:

Hot mic!
  10:59am Buzzard:

All manner of creatures are climbing out of the NYC gutters for air... it's a sidewalk zoo...
  10:59am Dan B From Upstate:

Or is that Julie's song? My bad!
  10:59am Robert:

Baro's still falling, but wind is now S to SW here in the Bronx, which means the eye is well onshore in NJ.
  11:01am cobra dan:

stay safe kids.
  11:04am other david:

hehe, I am loving this. Hope you're all okay and the ceiling hasnt collapsed yet :)
  11:06am Robert:

Jose's too far out to sea to affect us, I think. Tropical Depression 10 is the next identified threat.
  11:06am Dan B From Upstate:

I always wanted to sing "Man, I feel like a woman" for karaoke.
  11:09am Aaron in Minneapolis:

*stands up and salutes*
  11:15am Dan B From Upstate:

Angry Johnny. This is Jezebel in hell.
  11:15am Bill:

It's Trigger Happy Jack!
  11:16am Robert:

Yeah, but the trouble is that Julie by saying THAT, IS referring it to a part of the body! Get Ken.
  11:16am Cliff:

You were slow with the button...I heard the bad word!
  11:17am Parq:

It occurs to me, since Keili grew up with WFMU listeners for parents, she's probably doesn't know any of these super-mainstream songs Clay is invoking.
  11:21am Emile:

Brush your breath with Denteen!
  11:23am jmd:

Hobo With A Shotgun!
  11:24am Robert:

I don't remember the brown towel commercial, but from your description I've got to believe they made it for the snickers.
  11:26am Client Sine:

Go way back: godfather of goth: Orson Welles?
  11:26am Heavy:

Edgar Allen Poe
  11:26am Robert:

Radio ads are often crappier. For instance, there's a psychologist who advertises hypnosis, which he claims has "evolved from an entertainment venue". Would you go to a hypnotist who doesn't know what "venue" means?

And then he goes on: "Whether you have a weight problem, a diction problem...." I think he's saying "addiction", but he makes it sound like speech therapy.
  11:28am Robert:

Well, there was "Post Serial" from WCWP, C.W. Post College. Lot of graduates in the radio biz from that show.
  11:28am Lisa:

Jiff and Reeses are not Gluten Free, Keilidh!
  11:29am Emile:

  11:29am trish:

7up guy's laugh
  11:29am Lisa:

It was touch and go K. I was almost disappointed...
  11:30am thomas:

wow. lovecraft and reeces in 2 minutes.. my favourite things in the world!
  11:31am Lisa:

Julie - hahahaaaa!
  11:32am G:

First gothic novel: The Castle of Otranto by Walpole, published in 1760s.
  11:32am Lisa:

I was imagining Frangry doing office work.
  11:33am thomas:

dark tower
  11:33am Lisa:

DJ Papa says "Town Without Pity" by Gene Pitney or "It's Only Make Believe" by Conway Twitty is first goth song.
  11:33am Buzzard:

How about the Godmother of Goth - Mary Shelly. Imagine Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolf Man born on the same night... June 16th.
  11:34am Lee:

Langoliers movie with Bronson Pinchot!
  11:34am pb:

Feces pieces
  11:34am Tim Serpas:

Ayn Rand is like Freud: a good place to start, but wrong in the long run.

Salem's Lot.
  11:34am thomas:

kubricks the shining is my nr 2 fav movie
  11:34am Lee:

Stand By Me also good
  11:35am Parq:

I thought "The Dead Zone", with its broad arc through recent history, was King's best novel. The movie was, necessarily, just an outline of the book.
  11:35am trish:

7up guy in Live and Let Die.
Gothy voodoo?
  11:36am other david:

Clay Pigeon has to fill in for Professor Dum Dum some day, and stay in German character for the whole show
  11:37am Drew from Boston:

whales had the internet before we did
  11:38am thomas:

i second that other david.. he seems like a man of a 1000 voices :D
  11:38am Karen in Sleepy Hollow:

My favorite was Pet Cemetery. Never watched the movie.
  11:38am Lee:

Nice Xanadu vocal Julie! Could you play that song by any chance?
  11:38am Tim Serpas:

The whale calls are from the street, right? Flooding is that bad?
  11:41am mike east:

Clay pigeon on a Sunday?! We should have hurricanes more often!
  11:41am Lisa:

K- Do the Carlton dance from Fresh Prince to this song!
  11:41am Peter K.:

The so-called "7Up guy" is named Geoffrey Holder, and he's also a choreographer, director, and a few other things. The Stephen King book about a pet cemetery is actually called "Pet Sematary," deliberately misspelled. The best thing about the movie is the theme song, by the Ramones: "I don't wanna be buried/In a pet cemetery/I just want to live my life, oh yeah."
  11:43am Parq:

Best Steven King movie for my money is still "Carrie" - Piper Laurie desperately muttering "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."
  11:43am hopey:

What have I tuned in on!?
  11:43am mark:

Goodnight Irene
  11:43am Tim Serpas:

  11:44am Robert:
