Live performance and chat with Mia Doi Todd -
Inspired by interstellar journeys, reflective encounters with friends, and explorations of forest, beach, jungle, desert, and city in Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, France, and India, Mia Doi Todd returns to the scene with her 9th album, "Cosmic Ocean Ship." There's a definite lightness of being in Mia's new songs, with a slight tint of Afro-Samba in her rhythms. In the midst of her East Coast travels, Mia Doi Todd dropped by Irene's show to play live.

  12:25pm Your DJ Types:

I thought she said this was a song for Obama, heh. i need to turn up the speakers a little.
  12:29pm Mary Wing:

That comment was by me, oops. Forgot to change the log-in name. This is very beautiful music!
  12:35pm pierre:

Your DJ Types and Mary Wing are one and the same person !?!
: )
  12:36pm Jackie ny-ca:

Is that really "Lemanja" with an L? It's not a Y or I? I've never seen her name spelled that way before.
  12:38pm soundlanguage:

Irene this is so perfect... Mia's voice and the quality of the sound- it's making the silence ring like a bell...

  12:43pm Jackie ny-ca:

Yes, according to Mia Doi Todd's website, it is Iemanja with a capital I. I like to please the deities by spelling their names right or at least the traditional ways.
  12:43pm monica:

great set, irene! love mia's new album. perfect summer songs. just purchased "Canto de Lemanja" after hearing you play it.
  12:44pm Lucas:

Is sad and beautiful!
  12:44pm Brasilian:

Yes, the orisha's name normally starts with Y or I --
  12:44pm Richard from Venezuela:

Hi irene.

Greetings to Mia Doi Todd, from a Venezuelan fan.

Thanks for the good music Mia.
  12:56pm northguineahills:

Can't believe this was Erik Friedlander, I thought it was a Bill Frissell project.
  1:29pm pierre:

Les nuages en France is definitively what we are experiencing right now.
  1:45pm listener mark:

Thank you Irene, great music today. Thanks, Mia Doi Todd, beautiful.
  1:52pm pierre:

this guitar we just heard was quite something.
  1:56pm pierre:

Do you have a song about Rain or "Pluie" (in french) ? Because right after the "nuages" now we have heavy and cold rain hereā€¦
  2:25pm David:

Wooden Birds? Related to American Analog Set?
  2:26pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

yes, David, that is true
  2:29pm David:

Nice. Hasn't evolved much, but if it ain't broke .....
  2:32pm Dina:

Wow!! I am having a flashback to listening to James Taylor or Tim Buckley back when I was a kid in the 70's. Come home after school, go to my room, do homework and listen to the beauty in their voices.
  2:40pm Looms:

Gotta go, wonderful show Irene!
  2:50pm v k:
