Your new theme music is "Strange"

"With Strings Detached" would be a good title for a record
  9:07am Drummer Some:

Definitely an oatmeal kinda morning here in the Boig.Yesterday we had a blizzard with snowflakes the size of dinner plates. Almost.
  9:07am annie:

  9:28am charlie:

  9:29am Drummer Some:

There was a piece on LCDS on the back page of the NYT magazine this weekend: http://tinyurl.com/4h7gho7
  9:31am ndbob:

Hello Doug - Thanks for some more great Audio Motherlode posts!
  9:33am charlie:

I play some tracks later in the show that I found through some of those Motherlode posts.
  9:34am Drummer Some:

Hello ndbob:
It's my pleasure! Just like sitting cozy here at home with a steaming cup of Charlie.
  9:34am Gary Mitchell:

nice stuff from brother ray
  9:37am ndbob:

I'm doing the same - looking out the window at the huge piles of snow that are still around.
  9:38am charlie:

this could be your new theme song too
  9:38am charlie:

there could be a foot of snow here tonight/tomorrow! ugh!
  9:39am annie:

  10:01am charlie:

I'm always somewhere else
  10:04am charlie:

  10:04am Vicki:

  10:06am ndbob:

Haven't heard Rasputina for a long time.
  10:06am charlie:

no, really? does that thing work there?
  10:07am charlie:

been a long time?
  10:09am ndbob:

I bought a couple of their CD's when they came out but haven't heard them in years.
  10:11am charlie:

transylvanian concubine is my fave rasputina tune
  10:20am listener james from westwood:

mmm ... caravan. always reminds me of an episode of fmu's long-ago cocktail hour program, in which the dj played alternating versions of caravan and misirlou thru the whole hour.
  10:21am ndbob:

Ah a link to that great 78 site.
  10:22am charlie:

Yes, for all who haven't visited that 78 site (linked to with Caravan) -- it's great! Thousands of great 78s!
  10:25am charlie:

james, one could play an hour of "caravan" every week for months on end with no repeats!
  10:27am ndbob:

There actually is a show that's doing a series of three one hour Caravan specials with that in mind.
  10:28am Drummer Some:

Steinski has a collection of Caravan covers numbering in the hundreds.
  10:28am charlie:

get on the "caravan" bandwagon!
  10:38am Jon:

I fell off the bandwagon
  10:39am Vicki:

no the tracfone doesn't work here
  10:40am charlie:

might as well be ready, though...
  10:41am ndbob:

And it's posted every Wednesday on the WFMU blog.
  10:41am charlie:

yes, thanks, bob -- because we all need more mp3s...
  10:41am Gary Mitchell:

  10:43am charlie:

thanks, doug
i love these red bird records! so spare, yet so full
  10:44am ndbob:

I once tried to collect all the Red Bird 45's, but I gave up.
  10:46am Vicki:

ha ha
  10:46am charlie:

making a run of red bird!
  10:46am listener james from westwood:

ah, warner bros. preserver of the great american songbook (with some slight lyrical deviations)
  10:47am 1MT:

  10:47am listener james from westwood:

  10:51am Vicki:

it's Ennio Morricone - Sean Sean... Sean Sean...
  10:52am charlie:

  10:55am Gary Mitchell:

  10:55am Drummer Some:

Fantastic selection, Charlie! All hail the iconic Amanda.
  10:56am ndbob:

Great show as always Charlie!
  10:56am charlie:

  10:59am charlie:

Thanks Bob! Thanks everyone for hanging out with me here at home today. Make sure you lay in supplies for the big storm.

  11:03am charlie:

  11:03am Vicki:

  12:19pm Amanda:

Charlie! You are the greatest. Thank you so much; what a thrill it is to share these webwaves with you...
  12:26pm charlie:

Thanks Amanda! Looking forward to your shows. Would have announced it but recorded my mic breaks before I knew Doug would announce it formally.

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO ALERT
You are listening to a rebroadcast of this show, but I have made commenting LIVE for today. Please feel free to jibber jabber!
  12:10pm Cos:

Gonna get some jibber...and some jab...
And some reezenfratzin..
Hah-hah-hahhh...!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Doug S.:

I'm so sorry, but reezenfratzinin' is expressly forbidden.
  12:42pm ?:

The comment board is confusing since it's live.
  12:44pm Matt from Springfield:

It is confusing, but it's also fun to be doing the Time Warp like this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Doug S.:

Hey, ?, this is your one chance to go back in time! Say something really crazy now in the past and see if it completely messes up your life in the future.
  12:46pm Matt from Springfield:

Funny how the Nazario Scenario hadn't debuted on GTDR yet. So I'm going to make a prediction-with-hindsight and say that Amanda's show will meet and exceed expectations!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Doug S.:

Hello Matt from Springfield. If you missed the original broadcast, listening now is like cheating death. (Of course, death is a regular listener, so this could get awkward.)
  12:48pm northguineahills:

Whoops, ? was me.
  12:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Doug!
I hadn't heard of Busy Doing Nothing at the time, so like BAR-NONE and the Pets.com puppet, everyone deserves a second chance! (It's not cheating death, unless you get caught. So cover your tracks...)
  12:51pm Harold Camping:

You got about seven weeks you fools and sinners! The spirit and the certainty are with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Doug S.:

Greetings Harold. If Charlie were here with us in the past on not ahead in the future present, I'm sure he'd be thrilled you're here, er, there.
  1:00pm kat330:

Doug, Matt,, NGH -- fancy see you guys here in the past!
  1:02pm Matt from Springfield:

"Out Of The Blue (And Into The Young)"

Hey kat! Isn't it cool how WFMU not only has Archives to listen to the shows you missed, but now has time-traveling comment boards to live comment on shows you missed as well! :)
  1:04pm kat330:

Charlie's alert this morning said nothing about a live comments list -- I suppose this is Doug's surprise :). Just thought I'd check out the old playlist and voila! My favorite mensch, drummer and NGH dweller! :)
  1:06pm Matt from Springfield:

Rasputina! This is an awesome cover!
(To keep the Alliteration Train, er, Alliteration Airplane going, perhaps "Neighbor NGH"?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Doug S.:

The cosmos owed me a favor, so I chose this time-traveling comments board. Should I have gone for the Lottery??
  1:08pm kat330:

With the track a couple back, My Favorite Martian could be added.
  1:08pm kat330:

With us on board, Doug, it's just like you've won the lottery. ;)
  1:09pm Coffee Cola:

Greetings future people dwelling in the past.
note for the future me: don't get that pastrami sandwich, you will immediately regret it.
  1:10pm kat330:

I was busy watching Helen Mirren's "Tempest" when something compelled me to check out "Busy" -- guess it was that cosmos you spoke of.
  1:10pm Carpenters:

It's, like, yesterday, once more, like.
  1:11pm kat330:

Interesting that in last week's comments here, I mentioned that I'd lost my past tense and asked help in finding it. And alakazzam (sp?), here I am.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Doug S.:

The thing is, the past ain't like it used to be.
  1:14pm still b/p:

I'm having chili à la kazzam for lunch right now.
  1:14pm kat330:

I'll still have to go back in the past to hear the first hour -- aw, my sweet Judy blue eyes, Mr. Charles and PLU.... later. I see Caravan upcoming and noted the previous comments about tons of covers. Wonder how "Harlem Nocturne" would fare in total covers. Love them both (minor keys, bocoors).
  1:15pm kat330:

Chili a la kazzam will go very nice with Caravan, s/bp -- and hi there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Doug S.:

If Charlie only knew the true extent of his power.
  1:18pm kat330:

Isabelle MARTIN and CATH Coffey -- feel like Charlie's nodding toward back there in the past before he knew I existed. :0

Oooooh....cranking up the volume....cold chills...
  1:23pm still b/p:

Hullo, kat.
Time travel beats the hell out of me. I'm afraid to ask how I look, 'cuz you'll all just lie to me like the guys in solitary in Papillon.
  1:26pm kat330:

From where I sit, you *still* look just fine.

Sweet & Lowe -- ol' saint Nick.
  1:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Pith! Uncivilised, ill-mannered tigers!

Go Bonzo!
  1:28pm Wildcats:

It's in our nature -- whaddaya expect?!
  1:30pm Wildcats:

I say, instead of hunting tigers, kill rock stars!
  1:30pm Coffee Cola:

You fool! You're messing with the space time continuum!
  1:30pm Matt from Springfield:

Does Charlie (or any other DJ) use this "World Friction" as bed music? Sounds familiar.
  1:33pm kat330:

I can't say yea or nay, Matt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Doug S.:

@Matt
A quick deployment of the WFMU searchinator reveals no other uses of World Friction as a music bed.
  1:35pm kat330:

Oh, cool, another PLU is coming up. I either heard this on a more recent Busy program or when I went to Vicki's soundcloud site. S'wonderful as I recall.
  1:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Hmmm, thanks for lookin'. It does sound quite familiar though. It might be an "unpublished" bed. If I recognize that tune, I'll be sure to scream it on that comment board so others can spot it.
  1:41pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, the Bonzo Dog song was a 30s cover! They cover silly old songs well; "When Yuba Plays The Rumba On The Tuba" is another example of a song that fits them so well, yet was a cover from the 30s! (It was by Herman Hupfeld, writer of "As Time Goes By" among many others).
  1:43pm kat330:

Ooh, and Bugs upcoming, too. :)
  1:45pm Matt from Springfield:

Motown Meltdown! Ha HA!
Followed immediately by Bugs, good fun!
  1:46pm kat330:

Love it if Van Morrison was coming up. So weird no one else stood up for Van on Irwin's list. Yet when I made a simple comment that I don't care for Rod Stewart, I was piled on. Is a lot like HS as someone pointed out somewhere here at some time or other.
  1:46pm Nero:

Oh, lambent flame
Oh, force divine
Oh, omnivorous power:
Hail!
  1:48pm kat330:

@Nero: Oh, fiddle-dee-dee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Doug S.:

  1:50pm kat330:

Hey, Gene Sisco -- local-to-me dude!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Doug S.:

Careful observers will notice that I just inserted Sun City Girls and Smokey and His Sister to the rundown. I missed them.
  1:53pm kat330:

I noticed some sort of hop. Figured it was the time machine nearing the station of the Present.
  1:53pm northguineahills:

Been watching Euro football, so, I wasn't on the comments board. I concur w/ Matt from Springfield, Vicki's pieces were pretty damn good fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Doug S.:

This is so sweet. Brother Charlie played this track in honor of Amanda joining Give the Drummer Radio. I'm tearing up.
  1:56pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks for sending us into days of future past, Doug!
Have a great day to kat, NGH still b/p and Coffee Cola as well!
  1:57pm Matt from Springfield:

Please fasten your seatbelts and turn off all electronic devices. We about to be transported back to whatever present we hail from.

We will begin slowly, starting now, so that none of you get the bends coming back up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Doug S.:

See all y'all tomorrow morning at 9am. I'll bring the fuzzy slippers if you bring the chocolate milk.
  1:57pm kat330:

NGH, check out Vick on SoundCloudi: "Wandering" "The Look" "What Will I Do" and the Jim and Julie duet were my faves. [you can check out kat330's silliness on SC, too :)]
  1:58pm kat330:

G'day Matt, Doug, NGH, SB/P and anyone lurking!
  1:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Fuzzy slippers wishes and chocolate milk dreams to all!
  2:00pm kat330:

Bye, Charlie, and thanks!
  2:00pm kat330:

I'll do my level best to be there with bells on, Doug!
  2:01pm northguineahills:

Will do Kar. I also have a lot of People Like Us stuff.
  2:02pm northguineahills:

Kar=Kat, darn clumsy fingers.
  4:01pm kat330:

NGH, de nada! However, my 1:50 comment above, I conflated Dick Sisto w/ Gene Sisko. Apologies to both and all....sigh.
