  3:07pm
βrian:

It's Joe Lieberman, I tell you – messing with the switch.
  3:08pm
BSI:

Joe Lieberman can't reach the switch, I betcha.
  3:09pm
Cecile:

I don't know why not, he seems good at switching. Sides at least.
  3:09pm
βrian:

He can if he borrows Sarko's shoes.
  3:10pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

getting back to psychedelia feels right to me
  3:14pm
glenn:

me thinks the hoof and mouth sinfonia should perform "i might like you better if we slept together' at this years marathon wrap party.
  3:16pm
Mary Wing:

Never Say Never was already covered by Bethany, either last year or the year before.
  3:17pm
glenn:

  4:11pm
dc pat:

  4:12pm
Yair Yona:

  4:12pm
fleep:

Gang of Four Chambered Heart
  4:12pm
danny:

way,way down inside-gonna give ya every inch on my....
  4:14pm
dc pat:

I haven't seen Go4 on this tour but I heard they sucked. I saw them last time around and the were truly rippin.
  4:17pm
still b/p:

One association with Magic Man is very period appropriate/reinforcing: I'd hear it the radio of the customized vans I had to move into the garage at an auto dealership's closing time.
  4:17pm
BSI:

from Rippin to Suck is quite a plummet.
  4:17pm
ADL:

And then, suddenly, a switch was flipped and I liked Heart!!!
  4:18pm
BSI:

Definitely not Joe Lieberman on a step-stool...
  4:19pm
dc pat:

I'm only reporting what I was told. I saw the orig line up--not the case at the last gig here.
  4:22pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

hell, I was turned on by the Isaac Hayes!
  4:30pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Damaged Goods! easily Gang of Four best song
  4:31pm
Marmalade Kitty:

..musically anyhow!
  4:35pm
Marmalade Kitty:

..actually, I don't necessarily agree with myself there..? great band!
  4:35pm
still b/p:

Was at a Roy Orbison press conference once. Incredibly quiet manner and seemed heavily self-conscious. Excruciating to listen to him speak his constricted remarks so haltingly and diffidently.
  4:41pm
northguineahills:

I heard "Love Song for Daead Che" first through the band, Northern Picture Library. Oddly enough, a friend of mine, found a stash of United States of America cassettes at a Big Lots in 1998 for $2.50 each, which is how I got my first copy before I got the LP/
  4:45pm
mark in cbus:

Love this Reed song!
  4:46pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

United States of America cassettes at a Big Lots...that had to be exciting! They were probably produced in Mexico or Hong Kong though.
  4:48pm
glenn:

so. i was just at my bank, and watched a guy close his account, with well over 500 grand in it, because the teller wouldn't let him cash his tenant's welfare check, worth about 500 dollars. the manager was not best pleased.
  4:49pm
northguineahills:

huh, I actually got this, an Illegal Art comp, from going to the exhibit forever ago.
  4:50pm
don:

abridged too far . . . swingin easy
  4:51pm
TJ:

Tis a purty song
  4:52pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

moogy up the wazoo
  4:53pm
still b/p:

I'd like to share that Swinglargo with a few backpacking friends. For no good reason we end up singing The Last Waltz, Humperdinck-style, from time to time out there.
  4:54pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

when I was a kid we used to giggle at the mention of "Humperdinck". It's still kinda funny.
  4:57pm
glenn:

if you're gonna pick a stage name, why would you choose to name yourself after some obscure 18th century czech composer?
  4:58pm
still b/p:

Oh, yeah, was very snickerworthy. When he debuted in popular music, I remember the talk on the radio about who this strangely named singer might really be. Probably could have succeeded anyway, but the buzz and oddness of the handle didn't hoit.
  5:00pm
glenn:

sorry, he was an obscure 19th century german composer.
  5:02pm
Marmalade Kitty:

what beautiful song for Che
  5:05pm
Carmichael:

Ooohhh, Martin Denny ....
  5:09pm
glenn:

mark dagley also makes beautiful visual art.
  5:10pm
Scott:

...and was once in the amazing Boston band The Girls, no relation.
  5:12pm
glenn:

grrrrr. muli talented creative interesting people. hate 'em.
  5:14pm
glenn:

http://mutant-sounds.blogspot.com/2008/08/girls-reunion-lp-1986-usa.html
  5:14pm
Marmalade Kitty:

learn to love us ;)
  5:18pm
glenn:

hey scott, i have a guitar related question. can i shoot you an email?
  5:18pm
Scott:

Sure Glenn, not sure if I can answer it tho!~
  5:22pm
BSI:

oh great cavernous god-bones, you killin' me with this very large blood.
  5:22pm
SF Spike:

I love Big Blood! This clinches it.
  5:25pm
Cecile:

I think the same promoter who gave E Humperdink and tom Jones their names also managed Gilbert O' Sullivan (not his real name.)
  5:26pm
Cecile:

He had a thing about naming his singers after things the audience already knew.
  5:27pm
glenn:

actually, gilbert o'sullivan's real name is ray o'sullivan.
  5:30pm
Cecile:

It is, but Gordon Mills had him change it to Gilbert cause, Gilbert and Sullivan?
  5:30pm
Marmalade Kitty:

why would you change your name from ray to gilbert ..puzzled??
  5:31pm
glenn:

yep.
  5:32pm
Marmalade Kitty:

?
  5:32pm
glenn:

so.... if tom parker was colonel tom, shouldn't gordon mills have been general mills?
  5:33pm
BSI:

Forget O'Sullivan.
Ray should've kept that first name but changed his last name to O'Sunshine.
  5:34pm
JCJ:

I would guess he probably changed his name thinking that the similarity to "Gilbert and Sullivan" would make it more memorable.
  5:34pm
Cecile:

Gilbert and Sullivan, the famous composers of operettas in the 1800s?

LOL BSI and Glenn.
  5:37pm
BSI:

sounded like that label shoulda been Sky, for this Grosskopf... it's got that shiny 1981 arpeg. thing goin' on...
  5:38pm
glenn:

hey, why isn't there any hoof and mouth sinfonia on the free music archive?
  5:39pm
Scott:

coz it's all covers, we can't gets rights to any of that.
  5:40pm
glenn:

oh poo.
  5:41pm
john:

please return my brain to normal speed, I'm tryin' to work here!
  5:42pm
Scott:

lotsa vids on the FMU blog, glenn: http://tinyurl.com/4rg27hf
  5:42pm
BSI:

massive dig.
  5:43pm
glenn:

yep. i've watched some of them. it's very good stuff.
  5:45pm
Marmalade Kitty:

If you were promised fame, would you change your name? to Gilbert? thats pretty sad!
  5:47pm
glenn:

fame, schmame.
  5:48pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Gill or Gilly ok..
  5:48pm
Juan Rapido:

did you say ignatz or pig nuts?
  5:50pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Raymond Gilbert is better..
  5:50pm
Cecile:

Sure, I'd change my name to Gilbert. If it meant I didn't have to sleep with anyone or do any mall gigs or sell drugs or whatever. It could be loads worse.
  5:51pm
Cecile:

Well, Gilbert did have a big fistful of top 10 hits in the 70s with that name.
  5:52pm
Marmalade Kitty:

I'd rather clean the loo!
  5:54pm
Steve C:

Hey Scott! Love the Dagley stuff! He played with us (ps) for a while. Great guy!
  5:55pm
glenn:

what if you had to sell drugs at your mall gigs and then sleep with the booker?
  5:56pm
Gilbert aka Cecile:

I changed my name. I don't have to do that.
  5:57pm
Gilbert aka Cecile:

Now you have to play some real Guess Who before Canada attacks you for this affront, Scott.
  5:57pm
Burton Carmichael Cummings:

OK, this song rocks!
  5:58pm
TJ:

I head the legion not long ago on a different fmu program. Fun stuff!
  5:59pm
Carmichael:

You can't argue with an entire legion of rock stars. I mean, you just can't.
  5:59pm
Gilbert aka Cecile:

Yay, Scott! I knew you'd play Cherish.
  6:00pm
glenn:

randy bachman wrote these eyes. the music, anyway.
