Thanks, Fabio, for failing once again. Good to hear Ono, etc.
  5:08pm
unclepoop:

who wants a karagarga invite?
  5:10pm
Carmichael:

More apt to me would be Refractions of My Life.
  5:12pm
Ike:

@TDK60, that's the grooviest nom de plume around here lately. It takes me back. Maybe I should rename myself Fuji DR-II 90. I've still got some of those.
  5:14pm
glenn:

on that topic, anybody have an akai gx 77 they want to get rid of? (i can't find one on craigslist).
  5:19pm
?:

I was always a straight up Maxell XLII 90 man, myself . . .
  5:20pm
Cecile:

Hey, Fabio, wasn't Clay looking for blank tapes a while back? Or was it a better tape machine?
  5:20pm
Carmichael:

Now those were some damn fine cassettes, ?. I'd buy those by the gross.
  5:22pm
hank:

dolb2
  5:25pm
Cecile:

I bought a lot of Maxell IIs, too. I still have some in their wrappers. If Clay wants them, I'd donate them to the station.
  5:26pm
?:

up until about 8 or 9 years ago (when I stopped going--I am a confessed luddite) you could still get cases of cassettes wholesale in the "fashion district" (mid-20's btw B'way and 7th). I'm sure all of those perfume/electronics/clothing emporia that sold them have now been replaced with hipster coffee bars, though . . ...
  5:26pm
fabio:

yes, he was looking for replacement decks, but ended up fixing the ones he had...
  5:28pm
hank:

heads thing..
  5:28pm
BSI:

HELL YES maxell XLII-S!
  5:31pm
Ike:

Oh yeah, I've still got some Maxells. Got some Type IV cassettes also, but I don't remember which brand.
  5:36pm
hank:

clean heads with liquid either... wealkly....
  5:39pm
julie:

why do I know Tor Lundvall's name
  5:39pm
Mike East:

I vote Maxell as well. Used to get Fuji's at places like Shoprite or CVS when I couldn't make it to the music store. I recently started making "digital mixtapes" and creating the artwork from old Maxell inserts. I record LP to MP3 and attach the artwork to the file.
  5:42pm
julie:

I remember buying tapes in bulk at Uncle Stereo..I think they were Steve's back then?
  5:43pm
Pantagruel:

Julie, maybe you know Tor's paintings?
  5:44pm
julie:

probably folks mentioning his name around here. Although I've probably come across some of his World Serpent stuff
  5:48pm
hank:

used to getem @ crazy eddies...
  5:49pm
Pantagruel:

Thanks for a quarter century and 3 hours of failure, Fabio.

Can we expect a special 25-year anniversary marathon premium?
  5:51pm
Ike:

Fabio's marathon premiums are always amazing.
  5:56pm
dave:

I like that Fab and Julia are just riffing and Clay hasn't even shown up... :)

Joe Corrao:

thank you
  6:02pm
tr/.sh:

Great show, Fabio. Thanks.
  6:02pm
Cecile:

Clay, do you need blank cassette tapes? I have a bunch.
  6:03pm
Joe Corrao:

the devil we do know is better than the devil we don't...but unfortunately we know all the devils
  6:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Julie, Fab, Clay!
Great idea to use at least one of the playlists during "Triumvariate" shows! First time catching you live! I'm still at work so I can't call from my desk.
  6:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

Bronwyn and Jay have talked of the "strawberry shake" appearance of any processed chicken as it's being made.
  6:06pm
Joe Corrao:

il duce
  6:12pm
Joe Corrao:

hey this is funny stuff is this a regular show
  6:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe "The Dusty Show with Clay Pigeon", you mean? It's on right after Fabio, from 6 to 7. Sometimes they have "The Triumvariate" talking and taking calls, with Fabio and DJ Julie joining Clay.
  6:14pm
cobraDan:

Fabio and Dusty should have a weekly show.
  6:15pm
Ike:

I don't believe in IQ.
  6:15pm
Joe Corrao:

thank you matt...didn't get into wfmu till i moved out of nyc 6 months ago
  6:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

Christmas Tree! You're all lit up at last!
  6:17pm
Cecile:

I loved 50s music in the 70s. I liked it better than most 70s music.
  6:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ike You believe then in "I-Ke"?
  6:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

I LOVE older music! I loved and still loved the Beatles, and like off-beat and older stuff in general. At first it was the regular "Classic" rock, I later diversified and now dig 'FMU as the best source of discovered and undiscovered music.
  6:20pm
Cecile:

He had several hits in the 70s even. Moody Blue and Burnin' Love.
  6:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

After all, don't knock the mainstream--it gave you a baseline for rock! Without first getting into Zeppelin in your teens, how else would you appreciate Kenny G playing a mangled 8-track of "IV"?
  6:21pm
Joe Corrao:

hey I'll be right back...don't do anything importnat
  6:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

There's one chord--someone drone a middle "C", and start!
  6:22pm
?:

The line is actually, "In ignorance and hate, they mourn the dead"
  6:23pm
glenn:

elvis' live version of steamroller blues kills.
  6:23pm
Beatles lyrics:

"That ignorance and hate may mourn the dead /
It is believing / It is believing"
  6:23pm
Ike:

"Tomorrow Never Knows" is my favorite too (possibly b/c it's so 90s-sounding), followed by "Rain."
  6:24pm
glenn:

i've said it before and i'll say it again - classic rock IS oldies music.
  6:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

I'm in the romantic pits as well, so do all these callers! Organize a Clay Pigeon Speed Dating session! A WFMU Speed Dating session, that would be wild!
  6:28pm
Joe Corrao:

back...my math is getting good
  6:28pm
hank:

its all about the One Drop...
  6:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

I could participate in a WFMU speed dating session, as long as it wasn't actually a Seven Second Delay gimmick!
  6:29pm
Ike:

@Glenn: To make it more appealing, the radio industry re-named oldies "classic hits." I think "classic rock" is still the slightly harder stuff w/more male demo appeal. "Classic hits" is more pop. It's all very carefully segregated.
  6:29pm
Joe Corrao:

Gino vanelli I just Wanna Stop
  6:29pm
Cecile:

It is Gino Vanelli!
  6:30pm
glenn:

going to montreal next friday. it's a fantastic place. even when it's cold.
  6:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, thank you listeners! They used to play that on "Quiet Storm" type evening shows, never knew who did that! See, even pop dreck questions can be answered here!
  6:31pm
Joe Corrao:

Vortex?...is that made by Nissan
  6:32pm
hank:

polly vue a ding dong?
  6:34pm
Joe Corrao:

the professional leon
  6:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Sid And Nancy"--Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb as Nancy Sprungen--really deep acting, can hardly tell it's them!
  6:36pm
wikipedia:

Nil by Mouth was Gary Oldman's debut as writer and director.
  6:36pm
Joe Corrao:

idiocracy is the scariest movie ever made
  6:38pm
Ike:

@Joe: Agreed! Almost as terrifying as "1984" but in a diff. way!
  6:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

Magic Clay, molding into anything he chooses!
  6:38pm
glenn:

i thought clay's fill in show monday was fantastic, by the way.
  6:39pm
hank:

NorthbyNorthwest
  6:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Idiocracy" though just satirizes present idiotic mindsets that could grow--I read all of "1984" and I would still think it's among the bleakest stories ever.
  6:41pm
Joe Corrao:

@Ike...i saw expecting it a zany comedy and was so depressed...anyway I always recommend it
  6:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn It's already courteous for DJs to do fill-ins, but if they're doing a fill-in, it would be nicer still to announce it on their show, so fans can try to catch them live.
  6:44pm
glenn:

and this is the best dusty show i've ever heard.
  6:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn Same here!
  6:46pm
Ike:

I'm reading a newer dystopian novel, "Veracity," heavily inspired by "1984" -- scary, intense, but not very original, exc. for the idea of a device implanted into people that zaps them if they speak banned words. More and more words get banned, erasing entire concepts from society, or trying to.
  6:46pm
glenn:

i like sexual nintendo too.
  6:48pm
glenn:

malmo - home of kurt wallander.
  6:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ike I would agree based on your description, a combination of "1984" and "Harrison Bergeron" does sound scary, but you can identify the stories it borrowed from.
  6:48pm
Joe Corrao:

so is this an average example of this show or are they "on"...cause I am liking it
  6:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

I love whenever they're on, and they usually get pretty funny, this one is exemplary. Clay often plays other stuff, like his interview recording "mixes" and conceptual one-man radio dramas. I've liked the Archives I listened to, though I prefer his talk show.
  6:51pm
tr/.sh:

I wonder if he knows Baldur?
  6:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

Clay has a magnetic voice and personality, when he starts talking you want to hear more!
  6:53pm
Joe Corrao:

Ok i will try to remember to listen...I will call in too...I want to be part of the magic...not the basketball team
  6:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

Chet - I always thought he was a lady suffragette.
  6:57pm
Ike:

Maybe the line of the night: Clay to Fabio: "You're this smoldering cauldron of sexuality": !!! :)
  6:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Have a good night everyone!
