  9:50am
Fishwod:

  9:55am
bobw:

the joshua abrams LP looks like something that would be hard to find anywhere.
  9:57am
Fishwod:

hi Bob yeh i can find it but will end up costing me about 45 dollars which is a bit much for my nano wallet
  10:00am
Fishwod:

you guys are spoilt there gettin all your stuff sent free ..lol
  10:02am
bobw:

the amount of new music that pours in here is staggering.
  10:06am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I can only imagine...and salivate...
  10:07am
dc pat:

that Giant Sand was just right.
  10:08am
bobw:

and then to think that only a percentage actually makes it into the new bin for the d.j.s.... and then all the mp3s, the free music archive... we're drowning in music!
  10:10am
annie:

even our little college radio station got loads of stuff each day... and the music director, being all of 19, had no idea some of the gems he threw out...suffice to say, i LOVED the free bin!
  10:13am
dc pat:

cups and cones?? Dang, wish I could make that one.
  10:21am
bobw:

i might need to attend that workshop. i'm pretty confident fixing most everything on my bike, but bearings... i think that i ruined a wheel once when i was young, trying to repack bearings and i've avoided dealing with bearings since. ANNIE:at what college station did you work?
  10:23am
dc pat:

I repacked an old bottom bracket once. The trick is getting the right tightness when screwing things back on.
  10:23am
dc pat:

nice Devo choice
  10:26am
bobw:

that's the thing - not too tight, not too loose. yeah, i love the freedom of choice LP! one of my first every albums! my copy is nearly worn through both sides. the video for freedom of choice (youtube it) is the best music video ever made!
  10:28am
Cecile:

I love Freedom of Choice. Whip it isn't even the best things on it. I love Gates of Steel.
  10:29am
Cecile:

Annie, I got a whole Impulse reissue series on vinyl in the late 80s because from my music director in Marquette, MI because he said "you would appreciate it more than this station ever would."
  10:29am
dc pat:

Totally with you on Devo. One of my faves.
  10:30am
bobw:

gates of steel, snowball, girl you want... pure gold!
  10:30am
Cecile:

You should step out, Bob! Play Gates of Steel. Unlock that secret voice.
  10:33am
bobw:

devo has two guys named bob. not one named rob and one named bob, or one named bobby or robbie or roberto, but two BOBs. i respect them for that.
  10:34am
dc pat:

Bob 1 and Bob 2, you got it.
  10:36am
annie:

yup, cecile, i dig ya... they were happy to unload the "bad stuff"
  10:38am
Car,michael:

Mornin' Bob, mornin' peeps. Talking about one of my favotrite bands!
  10:48am
stingy d:

i just had a new bottom bracket installed on a new bike at a new shop in greenpoint, huge mistake. greenpoint bikes (manhattan ave) workers are not so intelligent and the owner is supreme fuckin asshole cocksucker
  10:50am
dc pat:

new bottom brackets are pretty easy to install--they're all closed up in a package now. You just screw 'em in and forget about the cocksuckers..
  10:51am
Skirkie:

I've noticed positive reviews of many bike shops in this area are few and far between. As if people don't appreciate other people messin around with their baby.
  10:55am
dc pat:

I like this Truck Stop Girls tune. Doesn't this group have a name outside of Soldier? Mo Tucker is on drums.
  10:55am
Mary Wing:

Morning Bob!
This track is actually on the Kropotkins album "Five Points Crawl" -- great to hear it on a Monday morn!
  10:57am
Carmichael:

Although I used to ride a Nishiki 12 speed regularly, I've never tried to fix too many things myself. I take it you guys are city riders with all-terrain type wheels, dodging cars and cursing a lot.
  10:58am
bobw:

look at all that info! nice to have well informed listeners! regarding the bad bike shop experience, that suuucks. for repairs that i'm not comfortable doing myself, i always go to bike works at 106 ridge st. by rivington. very low key folks, always good work, fair rates.
  10:59am
dc pat:

Right Kropotkins, how could I forget? I knew it had something to do with anarchism.
  11:01am
dc pat:

I ride a speedy road bike with skinny tires and I do all the repairs. The one of many things I adore about bikes is how easy they are to fix.
  11:04am
dc pat:

..as long as you have the tools...
  11:05am
Carmichael:

I've never been able to straighten a rim to save my life. The concept seems to elude me.
  11:08am
bobw:

learning how to true a wheel was the best things i ever learned to do. years ago i got the rob vanderplas bike repair book. it's very clear and easy to follow. that's how i learned to true wheels. i'm sure that there are how-to videos about it on youtube. i know that it seems daunting, but it's actually fairly simple. taking the highs/lows out of a rim is a little tricky, but getting the rim straight - pretty easy.
  11:09am
dc pat:

some of the repairs definitely take some finesse. There are some pretty good videos/how-tos out on the Internets. I just watched a decent one at bicycling.com on rear derailleur adjustment, which takes a decent amount of patience.
  11:10am
Cecile:

Elvis Costello's bike repair book: My Rim is True.
  11:10am
tim from Champaign:

Man, I had the bottom bracket blow out on a 2 year old Giant. It was a bear to take off it off bt a cinch to put in a new one. It took 4 people at the bike co-op I go to to take cracks at loosening the bottom bracket. Any tips if I need to do it in the future?
  11:11am
bobw:

you can always get a single gear bike! and not necessarily a fixie track bike. my gf and i rented "beach cruisers" last week in rehoboth, deleware - big fat tires, bouncy seats!
  11:13am
dc pat:

Don't use lock-tight, and use a torque wrench to tighten it to spec. I think I over--tightened the Campy bb cups on my bike. Not looking forward to getting them off. Hopefully I won't have to..
  11:15am
annarberic:

Cecile, I was listening to WUPX yesterday as I drove through Marquette. So beautiful there. I was in Houghton, Mi visiting my youngest cousin who's a DJ at WMTU.
  11:15am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

love this Beck tune. so much like Nick Drake.
  11:15am
dc pat:

wow, is this the only Beck song I like? never heard it before.
  11:17am
Skirkie:

Sea Change is way different from anything else Beck has done. Worth a listen.
  11:18am
annie:

ok kiddies, off to bottle absinthe and then chop food at the cafe... see yall tomorrow morning bright and early
  11:19am
Cecile:

No kidding! I'm from Houghton.
I reviewed a couple records for MTU about 31 years ago. And the one show I did with my friend MIke Lundy, we pissed off the snow statue builders by playing Tin Huey, Devo, the Move and Sex Pistols. Good times.
  11:20am
dc pat:

Adios annie.
  11:21am
bobw:

i like beck well enough. i love his work on the charlotte gainsbourg album. sea change is nice. a bottom bracket issue is exactly the kind of thing that i trust to the pros. sometimes it's not worth it to buy the specialized tools needed, if its something that you'll only have to deal with 2 or 3 times in your life.
  11:22am
annie:

see ya, everyone!!
  11:25am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

yeah, that Charlotte Gainsbourg disc is excellent...and Mazzy Star!! I heart Hope Sandoval even though I heard she was a bit off-putting in person.
  11:26am
bobw:

ha - funny about the college radio days! i once got reprimanded for playing abba's "super trouper" at a belgian college station that i guest hosted at for one month in the early 90s. the program director stormed into the studio with a look of shock-horror on his face, "what... what are you DOING?!?" heh heh.
  11:27am
dc pat:

well on my mountain bike, I blow out a BB about every other year. My cranks fit shitty designed BBs unfortunately. and I just need to do stuff myself. One time I didn't get my XTR cranks on tight enough and stripped the chain ring side crank!!! That sucked. But the pros screw up too.
  11:28am
Cecile:

Bye annie!
  11:29am
annarberic:

I'm eating a slice of toasted nisu bread from Suomi as I type.
  11:30am
dc pat:

DANG! I was going to do that mobile bike repair shop!
  11:31am
Cecile:

Nice! They make the best.
  11:37am
Cecile:

One time when I was laying out a magazine but still had a shift, I alternated Motorhead with Cecil Taylor because Richard Cook had compared the two in an NME article. Got lots of calls with that one - about evenly split.
  11:39am
nate in detroit:

I'm coming to NYC this week for the Pavement show at Central Park. I'll be in town Wed-Sun. Anything cool going on that I should check out? Any recommendations for food, drink, music or art would be great.
  11:47am
adamp:

hi all, nate, last nights show was great!
  11:48am
bobw:

oh my god... when that break kicks in on that dj spooky track... boom.
  11:52am
Ike:

Yeah, an Asphodel classic there.
Nate, I don't even know where to start. Food, drink, music, art... tall order! Care to narrow it down a bit?!? Do you like awesomely weird modern art? Check out PS1 in Queens, and the Chelsea galleries maybe. What kind of food?
  11:54am
annarberic:

Second the PS1 recommendation. I was there in August. You're from Detroit you'll like it.
  1:09am
Nic Richard:

Salut Bob, j'écoute ton émission : parfait, comme d'habitude. Feels like on est ensemble, ici ou là. A bientôt j'espère. N
