  10:39am Cecile:

Good Morning, Joe. Enjoying the hell out of your show.
  10:40am Cecile:

Oh, dear. This arrangement is just too small for the oversized personality of Mr. Jones.
  10:41am SmokinJ:

Me rock too Joe !
  10:43am Carmichael:

Joe, if you have time to fit in some Esquirita, that would be a wonderful thing.
  10:44am Cecile:

S.Q. Reeder! :D
  10:46am Carmichael:

Dat's him ...
  10:50am mike east:

Holmes! I love this tune!
  10:51am Joe B:

Holmes at maxwells this Friday!
  10:55am mike east:

Saw them there the last two years at the ibj. They put on a great show. Hopefully I can't make it Friday.
  10:57am Cecile:

I saw Scott Pilgrim this weekend. Beck wrote a lot of the songs, which were pretty hilarious parodies of indie-rock.
  11:02am Joe B:

How was the movie Cecile? Hi to all checking in after the last hi!
  11:04am Cecile:

Awesome! I want to smack every critic that says it's just for gamer fanboys. Any fanboy will enjoy it. :D

Also: Machete! = godhood. What a fucking great movie
  11:09am Cecile:

I think the Monkees would do a better job on this song. ;D
  11:10am bfight:

Fanboy has always been a comicbook fan dis.
Like rentboy
  11:10am ?:

I think this is fantastic... Stripped down Neil is the best Neil
  11:11am Cecile:

I think it started in science fiction, and kind of spread to everywhere. I dig it, and own it.
  11:11am Parq:

Well my daughter and the current son-in-law pro tem loved it, but they are comic geeks, so that doesn't cover much.
  11:13am Parq:

It all goes back to Star Trek. The whole culture of cons, cosplay and even chat boards all started with that crowd.
  11:14am efd:

I completely concur re the Scott Pilgrim movie - I loved it, and I haven't read a comic book since Richie Rich was in vogue (was that ever?)

It reminded me more of a funnier version of the old Batman TV show crossed with a not-gory Kill Bill. Being a comic book fan is definitely not required to enjoy it.
  11:16am Cecile:

Parq, it goes back to Amazing Stories, if we're going to split hairs. *gets out tiny axe*
  11:17am Cecile:

There have been masquerades almost since the first SF Worldcon. *geek mode off*
  11:18am trs:

Action flick that's not in 3d?? Yeah!
  11:19am bfight:

There's something about the term that can be similar to calling grown women girls, that's not universally well received. Reference I was thinking of, a 1973 fanzine: boingboing.net/2010/05/17/lost-etymology-of-fa.html
  11:21am Cecile:

I resented the term, not the "fanboy" part (I call myself a "fangirl"), but because it is polarizing. You're right on that part bfight. A perfectly humorous story told in an inventive and imaginative style gets marginalized.
  11:23am Cecile:

Ahahaha! That's funny, bfight.
  11:27am bfight:

Glad you liked it, I don't know where the picture of the old pencil and pen looking cover of the zine went (not showing up for me). I want to see Machete, and didn't know Beck did music for scott pilgrim.
  11:30am andymorphic:

what ever happened to peter bagge?
  11:34am bfight:

He does Libertarian editorial cartoons for one. Found the old picture on page two. Just needs some Ligers.
  11:34am Cecile:

He's still doing Hate. It's an annual now. He had one come out this summer. He also does feature cartoons for Reason magazine.
  11:36am David Shortell:

He put out a collection of those political pieces, not long ago, entitled "Everybody Is Stupid Except for Me: And Other Astute Observations"
  11:39am andymorphic:

i liked the scott pilgrim books but i always thought hate or the bradley's would have been great on film. but i doubt micheal cera could handle the buddy roll.
  11:39am Parq:

Author-actor Paul Rugg did a cartoon called Freakazoid a few years back - one of those things that work on both a kid level and an adult level. One of the recurring characters was a would-be superhero whose only "power" was his extreme fannish knowledge. He was, of course, "Fan Boy".
  11:41am Cecile:

Andym: Bagge tried to do Hate as an MTV cartoon, but it never got past the animatic stage.

I love Freakzoid, and I remember Fan Boy!
  11:43am David Shortell:

Remember the A-Bones show at Maxwell's years ago, when the winner of the Buddy Bradley look-a-like contest showed up? (His sister is Chris Horne of the Brood!)
  11:45am Cecile:

Ooh, nice David!
  11:47am andymorphic:

that's a shame that the hate cartoon never got off the ground it would have destroyed beavis and buthead. i guess it was to over the top.
  11:50am Cecile:

It's the usual TV thing - they loved it for what it was until it was time to actually develop it. Then they wanted everything gone that made it good.
  11:54am SmokinJ:

glad-to-be-rockin
  11:55am Parq:

I'm not familiar with Hate. Can you toss in a keyword or two (author, studio, like that) so I can Google it?
  11:58am Joe B:

duh, roy loney was not on that track!
  11:58am Cecile:

Hate Comics - Peter Bagge
  11:58am Cecile:

he also had a comic that spawned the Hate series called "Neat Stuff!"
  11:59am andymorphic:

cera was a natural choice for pilgrim. i don't know who could pull off the contempt a buddy.
  12:02pm Freep:

Great show !
  12:02pm Parq:

"Neat Stuff" I've heard of, actually, although I don't remember any details. Thanks, 'Cile, I'll check that out.
