July 23, 2010: Conrad Schnitzler visits and chats with Fabio [Archival Program: - Originally aired June 17, 1990]
In 1990, Conrad Schnitzler came to New York for a residency at Generator Sound Gallery where I had the pleasure of being introduced to him for the first time. After several chats and getting to know one another, it became clear to me that I should try any way possible to get him out to the station for an interview and I was delighted when he agreed. Although he has always had his fans, Schnitzler's work has always been somewhat on the fringes, even for an artist who has carved his own path. However, his impact on the avant garde, psychedelic rock and especially the electronic music scenes of the late 60's and early seventies can not be understated: his involvement in the formation of Tangerine Dream, Eruption, and Kluster (not to mention his extensive body of solo work) are among some of the most important developments in music in the late 20th century. This program was more than a revelation for me, as I got to know the man and his work in a way that was personal, direct and filled with a sense of adventure.
