Looking forward to chillin' out with Mo on the drive home.
Leaving CB1 with a back crack and a plate full of choc chip cookies - new recipe - wonder how long they will last??????

  7:18pm
cheri:

  7:24pm
cheri:

this is weird but i like it,,
  7:28pm
texas scott:

Your music to our ears, Monica, is like spinach to Popeye. Love me some WCPAEB!
  7:47pm
Windy City:

Summer is going by way to fast...can you slow it down Mo!!!
  7:51pm
monica:

Greetings Texas Scott, don't you hate the way NY'ers bitch about the heat?...Cold Sesame Noodles, that would make you the scallion and bean garnish on those noodles - never metaphorical i didn't like...Windy City, now THAT's a damn hot city in the summer...They're all summer tunes, Cheri!
  7:52pm
texas scott:

  8:05pm
Boston Roy:

Before I moved to Boston, I lived in Chicago, having moved THERE from San Diego. I knew the winters were going to be cold, but had no idea that the summers were so hot. Well, as we drove into Lakeview, the DJ said the temperature was the same as Rose Kennedy's age. My wife turned to me and said, "Now, that's fucking hot!"
  8:07pm
Don (trip dub):

Hi Boss- your roving pg. 6 reporter filing in from shvitzy SummerStage.where Common made an unannounced appearance w/ Gil Scott Heron showed him major props and major Fender Rhodes (not some facsimile thereof).
  8:07pm
texas scott:

we celebrate all the proud ones who have gone before us.
  8:11pm
listener gary:

checking in to say hello. It is sweaty warm in the Poconos. Loving the music. Disco? Must be dj Monica!!! Best
  8:12pm
Don (trip dub):

Play some Mel Cherin West End stuff. You gots?
  8:13pm
listener gary:

is it true that all of the Dinah Washington records were dumped out of the fmu library?
  8:16pm
kris:

I should have specified the songs I was thanking you for.
The Hygrades Rough Rider
The Soul Lifters Hot Funky And Sweaty
  8:17pm
Don (trip dub):

Spotted in the Celebrate BK audience for Texas Tornados - a Flaco Jimenez groupie. Whoa - what a rebel rouser. My photog had an Allan Freed moment and started pounding his fists on the stage when they played Wooly Bully.
  8:20pm
sugarwolf:

oh, I second the Mel Cheren/West End request.. I bought his autobiography the other month, I hope I get around to reading it this summer.
  8:24pm
depilatrix:

One of the lovely perks of Chicago: The lilac trees continuing to bloom surprisingly late on the NW side
  8:24pm
Bruce:

Monica, you're a great DJ, and I always love your sets, but nothing makes my heart run like water as when you play some late-60's early-70's pop gem.
  8:26pm
Don (trip dub):

Kode9 Got ants in my pants - Blues summit at JALC someone claiming to be from press didn't take a note pad but made everyone put their pocket camera phones away because the lights on were disturbing 'it'. 'It' brought the usher over to tell folks to stop taking pix. I said the only qualification 'it' had was to 'press' pants. We called 'it' 'a buzz kill byach'
  8:27pm
CB1:

It's the Way-Back machine!
  8:29pm
monica:

Bruce, is that bad meaning good or bad meaning bad?....depilatrix, chicago is the loveliest city i've ever seen... sugarwolf, and Don (trip dub), so sorry, didn't pack any West End but I certainly knew Mel and he did a hella lot to help with the cause (various), thanks for your report don!!.... kris, your are QUITE welcome and thanks!...listener gary, haven't heard that one before but there was indeed a disco purge many moons ago...Boston Roy, now that gal's got a mouth on her!!...
  8:30pm
texas scott:

pearly shells,again?!?
we are in the wayback machine.
and what a nice ride,huh?
  8:31pm
Don (trip dub):

sugarwolf - The Mel Cheren music biz part is very interesting and is really cool from a corp. to indie record label. Much of it, though, has to do with male-male coming out relationship (I hope I didn't spoil), if that's your thing.
  8:32pm
Bruce:

No, that good! Gooey juicy pop goodness! I'm such a sentimental slob for that stuff...
Especially when it comes out of the blue, like you do oh so well.
(I actually CRY when I listen to "chart sweep" as it takes me through the ages of my youthful life...)
  8:33pm
dave:

pearly shells was completely ruined for me by that sugar commercial from the 80s (70s?). it shares this general problem with lots of standards of its day.
  8:34pm
Gordon, Kenneth, & Venus:

I think I saw Ray Conniff at the Pride Parade today.
  8:35pm
cheri:

g'nite mo--have a safe holiday next week
  8:36pm
sugarwolf:

Don, I like reading about all those things!
  8:38pm
Don (trip dub):

sugarwolf - I recommend it wholeheartedly. Its better than #1 with a bullet or hit men.
  8:40pm
texas scott:

your mama done tole ya,monica.
and yuse always do big.
XXOXo
  8:43pm
seang:

gonna check out Amy Rigby and Wreckless Eric 2nite in Cambridge,MA--should be good!
  8:49pm
texas scott:

this sounds a lot like that Hawa Dolo thing.
BEAUTIFUL!
  8:51pm
Windy City:

you've done your friends proud.,.past present and future.
  8:55pm
Don (trip dub):

78 rpm stuck again? Or have the smurfs invaded. (I know its the rats in 'Ben')
  8:56pm
monica:

Hi there Gordon, Kenneth, & Venus! Haha, did you know that Mitch Miller is still alive & well & living on the upper west side? Hope all's swell... dave, never saw that one but sorry to hear you can't take another pearly shell... bruce, yeah that 'chart sweep' is amazing...seang, have fun, T'scott, agreed...thank you, windy city. That's a warp, folks!! See ya next week... have a good one.
  8:56pm
Jeff M:

Just got in in time for the tail end of your show and a cocktail.

I'm thinkin' there must be something odd in this gin -- the radio started sounding especially WFMUish for Monica Time.
  8:57pm
monica:

Jeff!!!
  8:58pm
Ted L:

I got to visit the studio today. Bill Kelly walked big circles around me.
  9:00pm
Jeff M:

Back in town on a weekend for a change. Stop by for a G&T -- it's so damned hot, they're medically necessary.
