A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Francis:

Hi Trouble,
One of my favourite Serge Gainsbourg 's track is Marilou Sous La neige (in the album L'homme à la tête de chou). And Je suis Venu te dire que je m'en Vais and...
I have missed Vie Héroique.
Two months ago, there was a documentary film on french tv about Serge Gainsbourg and his complex links with women; women inspired him lots of his best songs ; when he lived with Brigitte Bardot, during one only (passionate) night,he had composed many famous songs inspired by Bardot (I think this scene is shown in Vie Héroique).
During three decades,Serge Gainsbourg has often been the guest of many french tv shows, but not always to talk about music; in the late seventies/eighties ,with his new public figure he had created called Gainsbarre (the dark side of Gainsbourg),he loved to go to many various tv shows to break the politically-correct rules, trouble other guests (he had "sexually" insulted Whitney Houston & others !),drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, talk about women, he was able to say some ugly, nasty words without being vulgar, having always an infinite class and spirit and a rare power of seduction. It's really strange how many french people (as me) didn't miss his many tv apparitions ! There was a very unique and special link between Gainsbourg and his french audience. We had the feeling to follow closely Gainsbourg's life (because he had this need to be extroverted and show and play with his private life and we could sometimes feel as peeping toms of a so uncommon life .
When I was adolescent,I had seen Gainsbourg live (his last concerts tour in the eighties),it was great,we could feel all this love, passion and complexity in this so uncommon man.
Sure you're right ,Trouble, american people have to go to watch the film Vie Heroique (forgotten american title) to discover the complexity of Serge Gainsboug (and his extraordinary and romantic life).
  11:55am
?:

WOW, what a funny version. I speak spanish and have to its a pretty good translation.
thanks!
  11:55am
HenryUK:

Poor old Tom
  11:56am
dc pat:

this is great, and Francis, you win longest comment award.
  11:58am
Francis:

WOoah what a Je suis Venu te die que je m'en vais version. I had forgotten in my very long comment Serge Gainsbourg is the father of each french punk !!
