Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from March 16, 2010 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

REJOICE IN THE FREEFORM...WE DONE GOOOOD!!!!
  3:05pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I bet "essence of Swedish Prog" smells pretty good.
  3:09pm
Pearly Sweets:

Stomp stomp stomp stomp
  3:09pm
Cecile:

Like cardamom, dill and patchouli
  3:10pm
dw:

Liquor Store sounds like Cheap Time's singer.
  3:12pm
minnesota jeff:

Hey Brian, you know what would spice up this day? Some Tonstartssbandht!
  3:12pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

who's gettin drunk tomorrow?
  3:13pm
minnesota jeff:

The entire city of St. Paul.
  3:15pm
Cecile:

Yeah. Don't remind me. Drunks sitting next to me on the way home. Ugh.

Getting drunk is fine. But I prefer Irish coffees in my living room and The Snapper on my TV.
  3:16pm
Mark from Pompton Plains:

Damnit I should have been there.
  3:26pm
Cecile:

DAMN. That opening riff on the Chinese Restaurants.
  3:29pm
dc pat:

well, speaking as some one named after the patron saint of Ireland, I kind of leave St. Pat's day to the amateurs. Especially in my neighborhood, sheesh. You'd think WASPs invented the day..
  3:32pm
Fritz:

mark Boombastik.. this guy is so weird. You should play the "putzen"song if you've got it.
  3:37pm
minnesota jeff:

St. Pats is the official Amateur Hour of the Nation. I find it to be useless to try and enjoy yourself at a bar on that day. Big Giant tents packed with people buying $10 Guiness', cabbage stink, and bad Irishy songs with Journy and Gaga thrown in the mix.
  3:38pm
dc pat:

mj: exactly

HOWEVER, I will be wearing my Republic of Ireland jersey (and then put it away for 3 years, thanks France), kids will have green milk, and I will have a stout or too.
  3:39pm
Cecile:

The guys at Keegans said they have three buses pulling up at 8:00 a.m. in Minneapolis.

Oy. I'm staying the hell away from everywhere.
  3:43pm
Terry:

This is blowing my mind. I am a pile of sadness with no sxse! But this jungle rawk mashup makes it all better.
  3:43pm
andy/s:

This track is so great.
  3:43pm
dc pat:

it sucks. I mean, I like any excuse to drink as much as the next guy but it's just idiotic. Doesn't have a thing to do with Ireland.

Oh and I'll be blasting Stiff Little Fingers too.
  3:47pm
minnesota jeff:

Cecile - I got talked into going to O'Gara's tent the other year and I nearly killed myself.
  3:48pm
dc pat:

YA GOTTA SUS-SUS-SUS-SUS-SUS-SUS-SUS SUSPECT DEVICE!! Hey do you have that tune handy BT?
  3:49pm
minnesota jeff:

dc pat - I saw Ted Leo last night and he closed the show with a cover of Suspect Device.
  3:50pm
boil:

Minnesota Jeff - Do you mean OGaras in St. Paul, a few blocks over from Macalester?
  3:50pm
maria:

what is tomorrow when we have today?
  3:50pm
minnesota jeff:

boil - Yeah
  3:51pm
dc pat:

mj: wow, that must have been pretty cool. Not a huge Ted Leo fan but I've seen him and his band is tight as hell.
  3:51pm
Cecile:

I'm glad you made it out in one piece, Jeff. O'Gara's, that's hardcore.
  3:53pm
boil:

MN Jeff--Holy smokes, thanks. Not to bore you to death but I went to Mac long ago and seeing the name brought back a ton of memories. Good luck tomorrow.
  3:54pm
minnesota jeff:

Cecile - They have this Circus tent, and it was wall to wall people, jammed in. There was like one lamp in the whole thing and it was full of cigarette smoke, and hot dog steam. Everyone singing along with "Don't Stop Believing" in the dark.
  3:56pm
Cecile:

That sounds less fun than it should.
  3:57pm
minnesota jeff:

When did Mardi Gras beads become a staple of St. Patricks day?
  3:58pm
dc pat:

wait, what the fekk does Journey have to do with it?
  4:02pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Aran Ruth is catching my ear
  4:03pm
minnesota jeff:

The song somehow became a massive hit again in the late 00's - I have heard it 9,000,000 times in the past few years.
  4:08pm
dc pat:

great so beads, Journey, and green beer=Ireland. no wonder everyone hates Americans...
  4:08pm
Dave M.:

This Temps Heureux track is great. I caught an intentional or unintentional quote from Pink Floyd ("The Narrow Way") on the acoustic guitar at one point.
  4:11pm
minnesota jeff:

dc pat - They would play Journey not matter what was my point. I had a similar experience at a bar on Halloween, everyone singing along.
  4:18pm
north guinea hills:

damn, missed some excellent brian turner cuts. was busy catching up on rupture's archive.
  4:19pm
north guinea hills:

  4:21pm

  4:29pm
minnesota jeff:

I sure would hate being killed by a murderer.
  4:33pm
Truth Talker:

You call for mommy.. but mommy ain't coming you son of a bitch.
  4:33pm
BSI:

TOTAL TWISTED SATANIC DEATH METAL!!!!
...this has me in the mood for German Shepherds... surely in the FMU library there must be the "music for sick queers" album? An old classic.
  4:34pm
north guinea hills:

I enjoy the idea of being killed by someone who isn't a murderer.
  4:35pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

  4:43pm

Did Bob Dylan force you to explore him?
  4:44pm
