Favoriting December 14, 2009: 1101010101010100 8-bit BLIP FESTIVAL 2009 Warmup / Workout 101000101001001

WFMU @ Blip Festival 2k9

TONIGHT: Patric Catani, Peter Swimm, Je Deviens DJ En Trois Jour, and C-Men exploit the deepest, brightest sights and sounds from the edges of the 8-bit live on Sound and Safe. WFMU will be webcasting this year's edition of the amazing BLIP FESTIVAL in its entirety!

Three days of pixelated madness LIVE from The Bell House in Brooklyn: Trash-bin symphonies and ray-chasing pixel pushers rule at the music and arts festival on December 17th, 18th, and 19th.

Entering its fourth year of celebrating the best and brightest from the realm of chipmusic and its related disciplines, the festival showcases the use of the former heavyweights of computing such as the Commodore 64 and Amiga, the Atari ST and 2600, and the Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy to create arresting music and visual art.

Stay tuned to wfmu.org/blip and blipfestival.org for more information and broadcast schedule coming very soon!

NOTE: WFMU's Broadcasts from the Blip Festival will stream from a separate virtual location and will not pre-empt any normal FM or web broadcasts (but DO stay tuned the week of December 14th for Blip-themed programming that week on WFMU proper).

The Blip Festival is presented by Manhattan arts organization The Tank, in partnership with NYC artist collective 8bitpeoples.

  10:21pm
Tim:

Hey Trent, that DHR World Tour show at the Metro was in 1997, I was there too.
  10:22pm
trent:

let's see the cat video!! i can only dream of having been at one of those shows back in the day.
  10:30pm
paul:

i keep hearing ppl say they were at one of those shows + it changed their life, or they played at a dorm at my college, etc. i just had the records, and a DHR newsletter that somehow made its way to my local record shop. still hoping somehow that a second Shizuo album happens....
  10:31pm
Tim:

uploading it to Facebook shortly. I thought I heard you say you were there, I met Patric during the last Ec8or tour at a small empty show at Empty Bottle, he was very nice to me nerding out at him.

Paul-
Good luck with that, last thing I hear about Hammer is that 7" he put out himself and that he burnt out on acid and is playing in a blues band (circa 2001).
I'm content trying to complete my Catani collection, I'm missing most of the MIDIWAR cassettes & the Irish Coffee 12" and like 3 other records. One day though....
  10:35pm
disassembler:

I missed Patric!!! T_T
  10:37pm
disassembler:

@paul I'm sad that we never got to hear Carl's follow up to Black Ark.
  10:38pm
Tim:

@disassembler, I think he's coming on again, but if not I have been recording this for my collection and can shoot you an mp3.
  10:39pm
disassembler:

@Tim Yes! That would be great! ^_^ Thank you!!
  10:40pm
Tim:

@Disassembler, did you here the Cark & Frederic Stadter album A Tribute To Manzini (as "Firewire"), it was very good and very different. If I recall, it's the last Carl stuff recorded.
  10:41pm
paul:

i've heard Ramones cover band, country band, rockabilly band, and now blues band, and pretty much all circa 2000-2001... dude was waaaaay ahead of his time tho
  10:43pm
disassembler:

@Tim Yeah, I heard that one! Great stuff! The vocals on the opening track are also part of ATR's track "Waves of Disaster".
  10:46pm
Tim:

@Paul, I actually met him at that Metro show in 1997, he was up in the balcony after his set. I ran over to him and asked him to sign my tour shirt. He was WAAASSSTTTEEEDDD. He signed my shirt and was swilling whisky telling me that people just didn't understand what was going on. I told him : "thank you for coming out at least".
  10:55pm
dave:

better than 10 years on and 'A Journey to Reedham' is still fucking great.
  10:59pm
paul:

yeah i had to just spaz out in my bedroom uncontrollably for a few minutes there
  11:01pm
disassembler:

@paul I agree completely. Although, I never really got into Squarepusher or Aphex Twin too much. I've only heard a fraction of their releases. I'm more of an Autechre guy.
  11:17pm
Tim:

@disassembler. I have your mp3 ready. I'm "Eft" on Discogs.
  5:54am
Erik:

Awesome show! I don't follow this scene closely but I'm always happy to have some 8bit madness come my way. Some of this stuff is unbelievably beautiful... and twisted! Great fun. I wish the Blip festival were archived.
