Listener comments!

  9:00am Dan B:

Yay! It's Wednesday Kensday on WFMU!
  9:00am Ghengis Jung:

Good morning.
  9:01am Parq:

Is it Wednesday already?
  9:02am Dan B:

Nineteen days until the new schedule starts. How's it looking so far, Ken?
  9:03am Ken:

Morning all! No word on the new sched yet Dan.
  9:03am The Observer:

El bebé es enorme.
9:04am Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

The playlist says this Omo song is new. However, I am sure I heard this at least as early as 1978. It was part of the anti-New Wave movement. Is it a remake?
  9:05am C:

was that the same yoko omo who broke up the beatles?
  9:08am Ken:

The Omo appears to be a new release Dum Guy. Nothing about it being a reissue in the notes.
  9:09am Dan B:

That's not exactly... a vinyl fetish photo, is it?
  9:11am annie:

morning all!! hi ken! been listening, just loggin in now.

Today's my son's fifth birthday! Just this morning, we were walking to the bus stop, when he turned to me and said, "Corn weenie! Really! Really!" (It might have been because we were talking about different languages and I was coaching him on how to say, "Au contraire!")

  10:12am Parq:

I saw the Furs in 1980, when they were touring to support their first album. There were still nine guys in the band at the time. Over the years, I watched them shrink to a trio.
  10:13am cribley:

  10:26am Yodeling forever:

Hey Ken - Did you borrow these songs from the Old Codger? I Love YODELING!
  10:28am listener mark:

Hello Ken, This is all so much better in high speed internet. No more dial up connection.
  10:28am Mark:

Trikont for yodelers
  10:28am wha?:

Is that Tom Hanks on the car hood?
  10:29am Hugo:

Hi Ken. It's on the Trikont label, based in Munich, Germany. I do have that yodelling comp.
  10:29am Peter K.:

Allmusic.com gives the label for that Les Paul compilation as "Universe." That may be a typo for Universal, or it may be some kind of semi-legit, possibly bootleg label. The CD contains material Paul recorded for both Decca and Capitol; I think "Steel Guitar Rag" is a Decca recording. If I learn more, I'll let you know.
  10:30am Bad Ronald:

typo on Russian radio link. It should be:

http://blogfiles.wfmu.org/KF/2009/09/09/russian_radio_small.jpg
  10:30am dc pat:

I'm seeing Vocalion label for the Dezurik Sisters

  10:32am dc pat:

ok, never mind.
  10:32am ozzy skateboard:

ken gives good sax
  10:33am Peter K.:

Amazon gives Universe Italy as the label for the Les Paul box. It also gives the title as "Isle of Golden Dreams," even though the song is called "My. Island of Golden Dreams."
  10:33am dc pat:

that was the original release
  10:34am anyone to everything:

No Nose !
  10:41am Doug in Canada:

Watch out for the socialism ... lose your roosters, and poor people getting free stuff ... beware.
  10:42am Hugo:

That Thai stuff sounded slightly up-country to me. Would be great to hear Carabou on FMU, though only available on cassette back in the day. Thai country rocks!
  10:42am jojo:

i was asked the same, although "where's your house" is also relevant
  10:49am -max-:

Morning Ken, Sweden, et al. Late start today. Saw Arrington de Dionyso (who is appearing on 7SD tonight) on Monday night at the Musicka Mystica Maxima Festival in NYC. He was using a Tuvan throat singing technique with several various instruments. It was pretty incredible, actually.
  10:54am Doug in Canada:

If there's one song that gives me that nauseating 70's feeling ... it's Baker Street ... I can almost get over that with this version ... almost ...
  10:56am dc pat:

Baker Street always reminds me of one of those summers we drove from PA down to FLA to see my AuntUncleCousin. 16 hours or so stuck in a car listening to this song over and over and over and...among other tunes.
  10:58am ozzy skateboard:

do I hear the slippery sound of a actual cassette tape?
  10:59am Carmichael:

Good day, Ken and faithful listeners.
  11:01am C:

hey, that's a pic of me chillin' on the couch after MY tonsillectomy
  11:05am Carmichael:

Hey Ken, it's Springsteen's birthday! How about mixing him with some Wiggles??
  11:06am Bruce:

Son, take a good look around.
  11:07am memphis jake:

sweet breckman dub mix, ken.
  11:08am Joe Steele:

Wow, Ken played something that I bought before it got played on FMU. I feel cool.

You know its Coltrane's birthday too.
  11:09am Peter K.:

Today is not only Bruce Springsteen's birthday; it's John Coltrane's and Ray Charles's too. Quite a day...
  11:09am Carmichael:

John or Chi?
  11:10am paul:

oh foot village. what do you expect with a cd with naked people on the cover
  11:12am -max-:

I will atone, by helping this Swedish man with his melons...
  11:20am C:

hey ken, will you guys be giving away funny cigarettes tonight?
  11:22am dea:

whats funny???
  11:24am BSI:

Having to do with nothing: BSI live at Velvet Lounge DC tonight. Part of the Sonic Circuits fest.

No live version of Corn Weenie this time: that sort of madness could never be repeated.
  11:25am ATF:

when is tonight?
  11:26am C:

uh...regular ol' cigarettes with jokes wrtten on them...that's all i mean by funny sir.
  11:26am dc pat:

BSI: Ah, may be there...
  11:27am kEN:

No, no funny cigarettes tonight. Andy has a way of extracting the humor out of them.
  11:30am C:

will there be any funny tonight?
  11:31am Ken:

Anybody have time to find the album and label on this Karol Y Su Amor track?
  11:32am Ken:

Yes, there will be funny tonight. Just no funny cigarettes this time.
  11:33am Ghengis Jung:

I have a Sun City Girls record with this song on it... Weird.
  11:36am Ike:

I must admit I'm stumped by this one.
  11:37am still b/p:

I have Llorando Se Fue by different artist at a different tempo in a mixed Latin CD, included as a Lambada...the forbidden dance!
  11:39am Ghengis Jung:

The Sun City Girls version is called The Shining Path, from Torch of the Mystics.
  11:40am north guinea hills:

i always thought the penetraso* was the forbidden dance.

*not obscure.
  11:45am paul:

does zatumba get royalties if he's listed on the playlist?
  11:45am sherri:

your dj speaks
  11:51am Ghengis Jung:

Zatumba Nilsson - related to Harry?
  11:51am BSI:
