  12:36pm
George Eliot:

  12:39pm
Prize Patrol:

Congratualations, Stingy D. You just won a big cardboard check.
  12:40pm
stingy d:

aw man, i'm sick of winning them fuggin things
  12:44pm
Ike:

Omar Souleyman is amazing and has enough talent to cause the Steve Miller Cliché-Filled Band (who were NEVER good) to instantly vaporize like those folks in "The Day After" who were too close to the nuclear blasts.

Discuss: What others bands are often said to have once been good before a certain point, but actually always SUCKED giant donkey member? Another is Steely Dan. They always SUCKED.
  12:46pm
Cecile:

I'm not discussing anything of the sort.
I can like both Omar Souleyman and early SMB.
  12:46pm
SCott:

HI IKEEE~!!!!
  12:48pm
Ike:

Hello! Sorry, work is making me extra-cranky today.

I love me some Ferlin Husky.
  12:49pm
Cecile:

Yeah, that was a great track.
  12:50pm
Sean Daily:

Corn Weeny Sandwich?
  12:52pm
Giant Donkey Member:

more steely dan please
  12:55pm
Steely Dan:

We *were* a big donkey member. The name, dude.
  12:55pm
Doug from DC:

I thought Transa was recorded right after Caetano returned from exile, but I could be mistaken.
  1:02pm
dc pat:

sorry to say that I agree w/ Ike on Deely Stan
  1:02pm
SCott:

You may be right Doug, I totally welcome anyone to do the research and let us know! And while it don't get no dork-dadder than this, let it be known that my 3 1/2 yr old daughter's current fave song, which she sings all around the house, is "London London" -- what kid doesn't love singing about flying saucers, right?
  1:02pm
Cecile:

ahh, the new Bats album!

Pssst. someone should play Crooked Path. That's a great song.
  1:03pm
stingy d:

i like "peg" and i can't help it.
  1:04pm
stingy d:

speaking of kids... my 2 year old nephew started beatboixing
  1:05pm
WR:

Thanks Scott for playing Delgados!
Delgados need to be played every day.
Strangely enough, I like stripped-down haunted WFMU version better than the slightly overproduced Peel's one.
  1:05pm
dc pat:

I hepped my 3 year old son to the Clash's first album the other day and afterward, he was walking around the grocery singing "Ride, ride! I wanna ride!..."
  1:07pm
Scott:

Soon the kid'll be singing "I'm so bored with Uncle Pat"!
WR, I 'm down - but they were hardly stripped when they came here -- full on strings & horns. Glorious tho, and definitely haunted
  1:08pm
Ike:

DC Punk, wow, it's you and me against the Steely Dan-loving world (of WFMU DJs).

I was caught off guard when another station, which usually sticks to modern sounds, had some awful old album cut by the Who... I tried to escape from the smegma of the SMB and ended up with the Who and that sent me into a frothing-at-the-mouth classic-mainstream-rock-hating frenzy.

I love the Delgados. And Home!
  1:12pm
G.:

I'm not sure that the relative priority of CV's plane flight from London to Brasil vs. the release of Transa is crucial, but he worked on the album while still in London, according to the Portuguese-language wikipedia entry on the album. Translating: "in London he recorded at the end of the year [1971] the LP with the name "Transa", released in Brasil in January of 1972, when the singer returned definitively to the country [Brasil]."
  1:12pm
Scott:

Ike, I love watching you get all positive.
  1:13pm
Cecile:

I've had enough us vs. them this week to last the rest of the year.

Can you find Transa only as an expensive import?
  1:13pm
dc punk:

Hoh jeeze, if you go busting on the Who then we're going to have to fight. Yeah they have shitty albums but they actually WERE good.
  1:14pm
Parq:

Ike, are you getting enough fiber?
  1:14pm
james:

I had to listen agreeably to an old friend who droned on in his stoned ramblings about how wunderful Steely Dan was ... I said they sound the same each time they played - he insisted you have to be *reall* into them to hear the subtle differences each time they play. Yawn. I did not know any better in the 70's when I listened to them passively. I hate them now.
  1:15pm
Swami:

Thx for the Space Needle!
  1:16pm
stingy d:

does anyone else like to imagine a world where ozzy osbourne was the lead singer of led zeppelin, and robert plant of black sabbath?
  1:16pm
dc punk:

so it's dc punk+Ike+james against the WORLD!
  1:16pm
Cecile:

yes! really underrated band. they sound better the more I hear them
  1:17pm
The World:

I'm taking my ball and going home.
  1:17pm
stingy d:

also... i absolutely hated that delgados song... not for nothin
  1:18pm
Ike:

Actually I do think a couple of Who songs are OK. That other station picked a song I really hated ("The Real Me").

Parq, are you psychic? Ha.
  1:18pm
scott:

cecile, i know there's a cd issue, but i don't know offhand if there's a domestic one. As for Steely Dan, I can appreciate them more than I can dig them -- I think the only song I've played by them is "Everyone's gone to the movies", which is a totally sick celebration of pervo pedo action that sounds like the Carpenters. Unless you count that Space Needle song i just played, which is the greatest fucking cover of "Black Cow" (are there many? dunno)
  1:19pm
The World:

And besides, Irwin f'ed me yesterday for his damn b'day. It still hurts. But sort of a good kind of hurt. {wink}
  1:20pm
fishmonkeystew:

I always preferred Can, Gong, FZ. and the like when speaking of the "Classic Rock" era. In case you were wondering...
  1:20pm
dc pat:

fuck you the World!

Oh yeah, I can't stand to even look at Quadrophenia now. But most of the 60's stuff I like a lot.
  1:20pm
Cecile:

I don't keep up with that Scott.
I like chunks of Aja, but I'm in the same boat as you. But yeah, I joke that their lyrics are all about jailbait and cocaine. Although it's pretty true.
  1:20pm
The World:

I mean, I saw stars.
  1:23pm
Cecile:

Although Black Cow is about a float with Coca Cola and vanilla ice cream. But the person drinking it is obviously jailbait on drugs.
  1:27pm
james:

The who played the Oval cricket ground in 1970 and I was getting through a blue microdot. I cant fucking remember a thing.
  1:29pm
dragonflyshards:

hi Scott & all..'probably shouldnt start,but...-even if you hate the boring Who crap that's generally played, check out Live At Leeds.(& Sell Out's pretty good),..as for S Dan?..eh.
  1:29pm
Pearly Sweets:

End of meetings for today, now nothing but Scott!
  1:30pm
Cecile:

Odds and Sods has some great stuff on it.
  1:32pm
Scott:

Who hatas start here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlBip8CV1P8
  1:32pm
George:

i'm just excited that it's not 2pm yet and i can still have coffee.
  1:33pm
dragonflyshards:

hi,Cecile--i have it,but i dont remember it...have to give it a go,i guess
  1:33pm
Cecile:

ah, nice!
  1:33pm
dc pat:

it's funny, a lot of big Who fans I know HATE Live at Leeds. I could take or leave. I think Sell Out is probably the pinnacle but I still like Tommy and the really early stuff.
  1:33pm
Cecile:

what? the CV CD?
  1:34pm
dc pat:

George: coffee in the AM; beer in the PM
  1:35pm
G.:

Between noon and three, alternate beer shots and coffee shots.
  1:38pm
dragonflysheards:

dc pat-i believe it...i think the only truly great grateful dead material is on an album that's generally ignored by"deadheads"("vintage-")
  1:38pm
Cecile:

espresso and vodka is what Michael stipe does.
And that's why he looks so good now. *coughs*
  1:39pm
George:

i drank the gin up last night, have to settle for tea...
  1:40pm
dargonflyshards:

tee hee poor Michael
  1:41pm
dc punk:

Stipe isn't in the band anymore. He was given the boot on Ken's list yesterday.
  1:42pm
Cecile:

i think John Bush from Anthrax should front REM. He's a great singer.
  1:43pm
Michael Stipe:

It's the end of my world as I know it. And I feel like shit.
  1:43pm
Parq:

I, um, still like "Dark Side of the Moon" -- yes, I know, I'll slink away in shame now. But before I do, Ike, re 1:18, "ic" or "o"?
  1:44pm
dragonflyshards:

-you can still channel the lyrics...
  1:44pm
GP:

Just found out it is "Talk Like Shakespeare Day"...methinks, 12 hours have been already wasted
  1:44pm
Old Weirdo:

Matter of fact, it's all dark.
  1:45pm
Cecile:

ZOMG, i have 3 copies of War's greatest hits. For the end times. So I can hear Cisco Kid.
  1:47pm
Parqspeare:

Oh, lamentations that I have yet enunciated in the manner of a 21st century dullard these many hours past! {"Passed"? A most vexatious connundrum. Dang.}
  1:48pm
Shake Speare:

I would'st bop that.
  1:49pm
dragonflyshards:

i live ina college town-'need to keep quiet about dark side o'...but i'm done w it....still Love Animals & Wish----,though--HEY Cisco Kid's great! War was great! ive gotta go....i wish you all a peaceful comments board..Thank you,Scott.

  1:52pm
Gabo:

This is hot.
  1:52pm
Inquiring Minds:

Use it for what?
  1:54pm
Ike:

Parq, maybe both, but mostly "-ic" because you read my mind re: diet.

If music be the oat and wheat bran swirl cereal of love, play on. Give me excess of it. That stuff is yummy.
  1:54pm
pete:

wow, so good. And so not for sale. ;-)
  1:55pm
stingy d:

well i could dj with it and also i could listen to it. that's all i can think of.
  1:55pm
dc pat:

and indeed it goes so heavily with my disposition that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory
  1:56pm

Damn right William was fey. That's why he took an ass whoopin at Hastings.
  2:02pm
dc punk:

  2:02pm
stingy d:

fey... ass whoopin... sounds like a mean spirited UGK song to me.
  2:03pm
Squire Wm. S.:

O brave new freeform, that hath such ditties in't withall! Z'ounds!
  2:03pm
julian:

Harold the Hunkerer
  2:05pm
dc pat:

  2:06pm

William of Orange, DC. He thought he could plunder Ireland like a Viking, but he suffered pretty much the same fate. Heads on sticks.
  2:07pm
Zombie GP:

mmmmmm, heads on sticks
  2:09pm
dc pat:

oh, well, THAT's different. When a guy says 'Hastings', and William, one thinks 1066. Good, serves that motherfucker right for attempting anything on Ireland.
  2:11pm
Carmichael:

And you're right, it wasn't Hastings. In my zeal to give the British the middle finger, I got my ass kickings mixed up.
  2:11pm
Bill Shakesp.:

Yes. Films, that's what I should have been born to do. I could outdo this material! Ah, if only I'd had better theatrical fx back in the day... My death scenes were pretty cheeserrific, honestly...
  2:13pm
Hype Man Hank:

When I say ho, you say hey
When I say hey, you think Hastings

Hi Scott

I dont know what these commentors are discussing, but here's a little factoid of today. I have to hold the antenna between my lips while working in the darkroom in order to get reception, and that is what I am willing to do to hear you show. Looking forward to filling in next week. Don't play anything too electric I might get hurt.
  2:23pm
