Listener comments!

  12:02pm SmokinJ:

That's what I'm talkin' about!
  12:02pm Mike F.:

I'm still doing our taxes after a WEEK. Please play something really awful.
  12:04pm Sean Daily:

Third comment! Woo hoo!
  12:07pm G.:

You mean like Johnny Cash "After Taxes," Mike? Probly doesn't fit the theme. :-) But you could google the lyrics for consolation...
  12:11pm Sean Daily:

This tape will also advise you on the best way to burn those pesky rock and rolling 45s.
  12:13pm Bob:

I remember the 'We want to be FREE!" speech from one of the Mudhoney EPs. Where does the original come from?
  12:13pm Laura:

It's from some biker movie--possibly The Wild Angels?
  12:14pm SmokinJ:

A real man uses his turntable.
  12:15pm PMD:

I thought it was Easy Rider.
  12:15pm Cecile:

SAINTS. YIS!
  12:16pm Sean Daily:

I'd say "Scorpio Rising", except that's silent to the best of my knowledge...
  12:16pm ken in denver:

The "We want to be free" spiel is Peter Fonda from "The Wild Angels." Caught it for the first time last night on TCM!
  12:17pm Bob:

Awesome! THANKS!
  12:20pm Laura:

And if you know any bikers, that bit of dialogue still pretty much sums up their philosophy of life.
  12:20pm Parq:

I want to be free to do what I want to do without getting hassled by The Man, but unfortunately, I work for him.
  12:21pm Cecile:

hey, Joe, do you have anything from that old Aussie band, the Spikes? They did a great cover of "YOuth of America" called "here in Australia"
  12:21pm rubble:

And we wanna get loaded!
  12:23pm SmokinJ:

I do... :)
  12:25pm Cecile:

Yes, Joe I agree with you. Eternally Yours is a album that's beyond great.
  12:27pm Sean Daily:

Has anyone besides me ever wondered how riding a two-wheeled deathtrap like a motorcycle and getting bugs in your teeth equals "living free"?
  12:27pm owen:

Yes, Cecile, I agree with you and Joe. Eternally Yours is wonderful.
  12:29pm dc pat:

Sean: don't forget "getting loaded" = getting dead.
  12:29pm G.:

That's what The f---in Man said, Sean... Screw that! Time to get loaded and riiiiiiiiiiiiiide...
  12:32pm Sean Daily:

Well, G., I have questions. And they're questions that make people look at me funny and reach for the torches and pitchforks.
  12:32pm Bob:

Hey! I've only crashed my bike once loaded....so I'm living proof that's a lie....alcohol relaxes the body for impact...thus enhancing safety for the rider....
  12:32pm Cecile:

You know, Sean, if my husband would let me, I'd totally be riding a motorcycle. I rode one a few times in college, and loved the rush. But always with a helmet on, and not loaded.
  12:32pm dc pat:

I always liked the Guess Who version of Shakin' All Over...
  12:34pm G.:

I've actually heard people say that in all seriousness, Bob!
  12:34pm Carmichael:

Back from meeting to hear Cyril Davies. Yeah.
  12:37pm SmokinJ:

Amen Cecile! I've got 100,000+ miles on my bikes and it's safer than listening to this radio show! If you use your brain...
  12:37pm Sean Daily:

Sock-a-roo? Flaming Groovies? What is this, Scooby Doo?
  12:38pm Carmichael:

Hey Joe,

Since DC Pat mentioned the 101ers on Jason's show, can you play "Key to Your Heart"?

Don't try to work through the logic of that statement.
  12:39pm ken in denver:

But SmokinJ, if we wanted to use our brains would we be listening to this show?
  12:39pm G.:

If biking is safe enough for Hugh Laurie and his fulfillment insurer, it's safe enough for anyone.
  12:40pm rubble:

I just wanna get loaded. I didn't say nuthin' bout drivin' anything!
  12:40pm SmokinJ:

You have a point Ken!
  12:41pm RZ:

I think it depends where you're riding!
  12:42pm ted:

I would like to see the Groovies at the Ponderosa Stomp. Anyone have room on their sofa or floor in N.O.?
  12:43pm Sean Daily:

I'm sure riding a motorcycle is a rush. So is getting pushed off a 20-story building. It's the "freedom" part I don't get...
  12:43pm Carmichael:

I had a very serious accident on my bike back in the 80s. And I was very seriously drunk, too. Good thing I had a serious full-face helmet on.
  12:44pm dc pat:

Right on Carm! What a great song...

Personally I want to get loaded and ride my bicycle. It's funny when you fall off.
  12:46pm Tom:

Last year (or was it 2 years ago?) the Ponderosa Stomp also came to NYC ... any idea if that's the case this year?
  12:47pm ted:

Its coming here but not with the Groovies.
  12:48pm Carmichael:

Righto, Cyril Jordan. NOT Cyril Davies. He had his All-Stars.
  12:48pm Cecile:

Carm, I'd never ride drunk, but my husband worries (probably rightly) about the wiping out part.
  12:49pm Carmichael:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're the friggin' MAN!!!!!!!!!
  12:49pm Joe B:

Stomp is coming to Lincoln Center in July. No Groovies but the Collins Kids headlining!
  12:49pm ted:

I am ready to fly down to see the Groovies but need a place to stay.
  12:50pm dc pat:

Cecile: that's why I stick to my bicycle--when you wipe out it only hurts for a little while...

THANKS JOE!!
  12:51pm Cecile:

You know, Joe Strummer was this close to being another Graham Parker.
I love Graham, but thank God the Clash happened.
  12:52pm Cecile:

Joe, do you have any Sister Ray or Original Sins floating around?
  12:56pm lisa:

wow - the SCOTS drummer is AMAZING!
  12:57pm ken in denver:

Astronauts! Colorado's own! Whoo!
  12:58pm Carmichael:

Cecile, have you heard Parker's version of "The Madness of Love" on the Richard Thompson tribute album? Folk with a bad-ass attitude.

I also recall Dave Edmunds' version of "Crawling From the Wreckage" on Repeat When Necessary.

Man, I have a lot of useless crap like this floating around my brain.
  12:58pm dc pat:

right again Carm, I'd love to have seen that Joe + Pogues tour.

SCOTS are great musicians.

Cecile: my favorite album cover is the Original Sins w/ brother whats his face with the gun to his head.
  1:02pm Mudcat:

Whoa! I didn't know the Venus 3 did this Soft Boys tune. Why didn't they play it when I saw them last year?
  1:03pm Cecile:

I have not heard the Parker, but I love the Crawling from the Wreckage.

Me, too dc pat.

Brother JT. Yes. That's a great one. And the Just 14 single.
  1:06pm Cecile:

YEAH-YUH.
  1:11pm lisa:

i hated ministry back in the day.
  1:12pm ted:

I still hate them
  1:13pm Carmichael:

I will soon hate them.
  1:14pm ted:

I was the first to hate them.
  1:14pm Al Bobcat:

Anybody know whose record, a CD from the '90s, sported a chilling photograph of an early morning (or twilight) on a dock on which three or four goons were tossing a victim wrapped in carpet into the water?
  1:16pm Carmichael:

The soundtrack to the Sopranos?
  1:17pm Al Bobcat:

Nope. Some band... A regular ol' rock 'n' roll record. But you've got the tone.
  1:18pm Al Bobcat:

I failed to mention that I, too, dislike Ministry. And I always confuse them with NIN. But let that have no bearing on my query regarding the CD cover.
  1:22pm nna:

sounds like DJ Icepack
  1:23pm Jonathan Steinke:

Those kids got something.
  1:23pm dc pat:

yeah this is when OOIOO was a little kid...get it?
  1:23pm ?:

I'm not a fan, but jesus mighta built my hotrod.
  1:26pm Cecile:

so Tommy Keene is playing bass on this?
  1:27pm Joe B:

Tommy Keene only in the live lineup so far
  1:27pm Carmichael:

There she is again. Sally Crewe ....
  1:27pm Cecile:

oh, OK. thanks!
  1:41pm lolcat:

I can haz Itchy Chicken?
  1:42pm dc pat:

best version of Run Chicken Run, hands down is the Milkshakes.
  1:45pm Anna Anabolic:

New Reigning Sound - amazing!!!
  1:47pm jahna:

Oooh! Nice! From the new Reigning Sound record! Can't wait 'till it comes out!
  1:47pm Cecile:

Hi, Anna! I hope you and the Anabolics are doing well, you had such a great set here last year...
  1:47pm Cecile:

me, neither!
  1:48pm Anna Anabolic:

Thanks Cecile!! We're gonna be on Pat Duncan's show in Sept...can't wait!
  1:50pm Joe B:

September - wow! at least someone plans in advance around here! I'm impressed!
  1:52pm Topkat:

Wau Y Los Arrrghs!!!=Cool! I'm comin' into this fray at mid point. I still have to do taxes, I'm gettin' money back. Saw the "Wild Angels" film last nite , too. First saw "The Born Losers" at the inappropriate age of 8. The version shown last nite was a "cleaned up" version. I would not be typing this if I had not been wearing a helmet on an that s-curve back when...Groovies & Ponderosa Stomp-would luv to...lots of time but not enuff $$$. Ministry has it's place as all things do. I built my hotrod...oh yeah, Hi Everyone!
  1:52pm Anna Anabolic:

Ha! It's just because we're playing with the Love Me Nots (Phoenix) who are planning their east coast tour now,
  1:52pm jahna:

Hey! Thanks, Joe!!
  1:55pm Cecile:

Nice, I'll have to keep an eye out, Anna!
  1:57pm jahna:

Wish you could be there at the party tomorrow! The other stuff is that Lynne Von of Da WIlly's is playing first with her band, The Von Dells and Chandler from the Raunch Hands is DJ-ing. Oh, and it's free.
  2:05pm M:

Wow- lotsa requests played today-- Joe is done for the year at least! Request now or forever hold your peace!
  2:07pm detroitdave:

Topkat, saw the Born Losers movies too last nite. What was left out that you say cleaned it up? And Yeah, Ministry and NIN DO have thier place, I suspect not for the over 50 crowd though.
  2:17pm gumby:

Born Losers as in Tom Laughlin aka Billy Jack. WOW! That brings me back M1 Garand, white bikini, martial arts as the hope of the hippie nerds. WOW! thanks for those memories!
  2:19pm Parq:

Chissabaddamoobah!
  2:20pm Bad R☺nald:

Hey Joe if it's not too late for another request, please play "Niki Hoeky" by PJ Proby.
  2:20pm efd:

This song makes me miss the Allen Oldies Band.

And the Spittoons, for that matter.
  2:23pm Joe B:

we only have bobbie gentry version here
  2:24pm Cyn:

Me too Evan. we need to get them up here soon...
  2:25pm Bad R☺nald:

You rule Mr. Belock!!!!!
  2:26pm Rubble:

Nice segueway Joe!
  2:27pm efd:

Cyn, maybe I'll start a Facebook group called "One million strong to get the Allen Oldies Band back to Maxwell's."

Or maybe I won't.
  2:28pm jahna:

Oh, wow. That's a dream bill... Todd, if you're reading this, make it so! Allen Oldies Band + The Spittoons!!!
  2:28pm G.:

Michael Shelly must have brought his Proby "N.H." in from home last Saturday!
  2:28pm jahna:

Evan! Do it! I'll join!
  2:29pm Bad R☺nald:

No doubt!!!
  2:33pm Topkat:

...you know, now that I really think about it, the inappropriate age was 10 'cos it was '68 at the Franklin Theater in S. Mpls.
  2:34pm Pearly Sweets:

2 and a half hour meeting. Unga Bunga I'm brain dead for sure. At least I get the last 30 minutes of Big Joe Belock!
  2:34pm Cyn:

Ha! It could work.. if we take donations!
  2:37pm detroitdave:

Yeah Topkat, I had vivid memories of movies I saw years back that all of a sudden don't seem as wild as I remembered.
  2:38pm GP:

Welcome back to reality Pearly.
  2:40pm Pearly Sweets:

Thanks, GP. Couldn't ask for a better show to come back from the mind meld from. It's putting everything back into order.
  2:41pm detroitdave:

Oh, and a shoutout to Joe B for another slammin show! It's a can't miss radio show!
  2:43pm Joe B:

Thanks Dave! Thanks everyone for listening/commenting. Hard for an uncoordinated bozo like me to respond to all the comments, it's nothing personal!
  2:45pm David Shortell:

Didja know Little Steven played that same "The Wild Angels" excerpt on his own program last week?
  2:45pm GP:

All we ask Joe is that you keep the records spinnin!
  2:46pm Bad R☺nald:

Thank you Joe, I believe you have risen far above and beyond the call of duty.
  2:46pm detroitdave:

We're all uncoordinated Bozo's on this bus JB.
  2:47pm Topkat:

Kudos, Joe...and ,hey, it's not like yer just sittin' in the studio doin' nothin'!
  2:52pm Cecile:

Nice! Maude and Rock.
  2:52pm Rubble:

This is AWESOME!
  2:53pm Parq:

Aha, I thought that sounded like Bea Arthur. God will get you for that.
  2:53pm Bad R☺nald:

Double what Rubble said!!!
  2:53pm GP:

Rock,
I remember when gay was...oh never mind.
  2:53pm Cecile:

Eddie Duchin. That was some good shit.
  2:54pm Cecile:

this is a great pro-drug song, even though it's not supposed to be. LMAO
  2:55pm dc pat:

how come everyone else hears stuff before I do? I saw the Eddie Duchin post before I heard the reference.
  2:56pm Pearly Sweets:

Wait... Rock Hudson was gay? Gah'faw!
  2:57pm GP:

DC PAT, same here..serious lag time on the stream.
  2:58pm dc pat:

ah, good--at least I'm not alone..
  2:58pm jahna:

Oh, wow. Perfect follow up! And, I think this might be the most perfect country song. I need this for dj-ing.
  2:59pm Mike F.:

Streaming: there's always a lag. In fact, if you have the stream on two different computers (one downstairs and one upstairs, like we have here) then the odds are pretty good that even the two streams will be a few seconds apart, and the radio will be way ahead of either of them.
  3:01pm Bad R☺nald:

"The Pint of No Return" appears on Paycheck's Bars, Booze and Blondes album.
  3:08pm Jahna:

Thanks Bad Ronald!
  3:09pm rubble:

great show today, thanks!
  3:14pm ?:

this batch of comments has the perfect balance between banter amongst commenters and talking about the show on air. :)
  12:44pm Robbie:

That Powerchords record was great. I just ordered it from CD Baby thanks to hearing on your show. Thank you Joe.
  2:40pm Joe:

Is the track AIRPLAY by the same Catholic Girls that were around in the 80s?
