Listener comments!

  11:07pm
Joe:

Cactus?! More Bogert and Appice, plz.

I think this is setting the tone quite nicely.
  11:09pm
efd:

I think any band that Carmine Appice was in would work in this opening set.

Except maybe late-70s Rod Stewart.
  11:12pm
Joe:

You're a drummer... ever read his book?
  11:13pm
Matt:

This set is a MONSTER!
  11:16pm
john:

I think you'd just need to find the right version of Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, on which I believe the aforementioned Mr. Appice gets co-writing credit. Vanilla Fudge, perhaps.
  11:17pm
Challah:

Wicked D'Awesome.
  11:19pm
efd:

Matt, if you like this set just wait til you hear Cyclone 60!

Joe, haven't read the book - have you?
  11:25pm
Joe:

Guy I used to work with was a multi-instrumentalist... said it was the best book on drumming he'd ever read.

Personally, I have trouble walking and talking at the same time without falling flat on my face... not exactly drummer material.
  11:26pm
Matt:

Bernard Purdie needs to do an audiobook or something.

He CARRIES that Steely Dan DVD.
  11:31pm
john:

Hey, that was at least two thundertrain fun facts!
  11:32pm
Joe:

Isn't Bernard Purdie the guy who said he played all of Ringo's drum parts?
  11:33pm
Joe:

AP-uh-CEE
  11:40pm
doc:

I can't wait to see them play Psychoaster Eureka on saturday (and the space helmet)
  11:41pm
efd:

You're right, John! I wasn't thinking that was a two-in-one!
  11:42pm
Joe:

don't forget the smoke machine.
  11:42pm
efd:

if only we'd done the session today! apparently the film crew had a smoke machine here earlier.
  11:44pm
Joe:

compliments to the photographer, EFD. Pics are totally dope.
  11:45pm
efd:

ooh, thanks for reminding me to add a credit - photos were taken by Angeline Espino.
  11:47pm
Joe:

YES
  12:12am
efd:

i would just like to call everyone's attention to the gorgeous blue Vistalites in the photos at the top of the playlist. Now those are DRUMS.
  12:14am
Joe:

Wooooo!

*scattered applause and hoots*
  12:34am
Amanda:

So quiet in here. Is everyone's internet down, too?

Set killed. I'm glad I resisted the urge to put on my Vanilla Fudge album.
  12:37am
efd:

Hi Amanda, and thanks! My theory is that Cyclone 60 left everyone too stunned to type.
  12:39am
Joe:

Well, I was going to make a serial killer joke about the studio phones being dead, but I didn't want to appear to be monopolizing the comments board.

You know, until that opening set, I didn't realize it, but now I'm very much of the opinion that Mr. Fiberglass is simply the reincarnation of Jim Bogert, wearing a motorcycle helmet.

Wait, he's still alive. Who was the guy who got machine gunned?
  12:53am
C:

Was Ultimate Realistic Rock the book you guys were talking about earlier? Sorry I missed it. Would it be good for a beginner or is it more geared towards seasoned drummers?
  12:58am
Danne D:

EFD out causing insomnia again :)
Good job as always, sir.
-DD
  12:59am
Joe:

Yo C-

Yeah that's the book, like I said, I'm not a drummer, and I haven't read it, however the person who I know -did- read it apparently used it to supplement his beginner lessons. He was also a pretty particular guy in general, and the book is still in print, so I'd imagine it's as solid as they come.

Bonus: Amazon review says "It was innovative---cutting edge, and also appealed to a wide range of students ranging from relative beginners to experienced set players."

God bless you drummers and your crazy flailing.
  1:01am
C:

Cool! Thanks, Joe. I might check it out. Sounds like a winner.
  1:03am
Joe:

No problem.

Must... resist... Eno... Tiger Mountain... pun...
  1:04am
efd:

Tyler - check your email.
  1:10am
Danne D:

I have visuals of animatronic mops and buckets marching all around FMU now :D
  1:10am
Amanda:

Yay yay yay I am going to see A.C. Newman in Brooklyn this Sunday. Joe, I keep trying to think of good joke answers to your machine-gun question but they are not forthcoming.
  1:18am
Joe:

I got scared for a minute that I made that up in my head - but Wikipedia confirms that Rusty Day, the lead singer of Cactus, was actually machine gunned to death by the guitarist in his band after a coke deal gone bad. Not fun, but definitely a rockstar way to go out. Might make my top 5.
  1:21am
Joe:

Not to.. um... make myself suspect...

but it's actually "Taylor" Hanson.
  1:22am
efd:

Duly noted, Joe.

In more ways than one.
  1:24am
Joe:

Ohhhh man, you got me good.
  1:25am
Amanda:

That burn is going in my Top 5 rockstar ways for Joe to go out.
  1:28am
stingy d:

let's all go to the clemente soto velez cultural center on april 4th!!!
  1:50am
efd:

I don't get it... what's happening there then?
  1:53am
Joe:

Something sweet, if it's got Stingy D involved.
  1:55am
Amanda:

I was considering just going there and seeing if you all showed up.
  1:57am
efd:

ha!
  1:58am
Joe:

No, the official EFD fan-club meet up is this saturday at the Delancey at 10pm! Be there or be square!

good show, Davies, good show
  2:01am
efd:

thanks Joe and all! Good night!
  8:11am
AZ Jim:

Hey Evan, Thanks for the Moon Martin! I think it sounded alot more new wave in '79, but it's still good. Cheers! Jim
