  12:38pm
Ike:

That awesome track is inspired by tea? Usually I'm skeptical of anything "inspired by" anything, but tea is definitely a muse. My decaf black tea this morning is helping me stay sane.
  12:39pm
Nichole:

Yesss! Dead Western just played a show in Missoula, he was fantastic! I love this record!
  12:49pm

down payment blues by AC/DC is a great unemployed song.
  1:11pm
HotRod:

Times are tough! At least we always have music.
  1:15pm
detroitdave:

  1:17pm
(mta) Tony:

Hey V, don't you ever sleep?

Liz, will your boyfriend work for food? Dinner is prepared if he can re-design a website.

Liz, has any swag been mailed out yet since last marathon?
  1:17pm
HotRod:

I needed these tunes. Thanks, Liz.
  1:17pm
fishmonkeystew:

Hi Liz!! How 'bout "Hot Plate Heaven at the Green Hotel" by Zappa? It'd fit right in.
  1:19pm
Cecile:

honest to god, that AC/DC is great.
"I have a Cadillac, but I can't afford the gasoline" is one of the choice lines...

And thank for playing the DOGG!
  1:20pm
Cecile:

Although, as a recovering English major, I keep changing it to "ON my resume" in my head.
  1:20pm
Monkey Brain:

Gary "U.S." Bonds, "Out of Work"?
  1:20pm
HotRod:

Who needs sleep when you have WFMU?
  1:23pm
Cecile:

I wonder if the Internet put the unemployed sweetheart out of work, too? ;)
  1:23pm
Tom (The Bactrian Support Network):

Yes we have music and each other, I am also one of those Welfare Recipients for now anywho...
  1:24pm
Cecile:

I LOVE Bob Newhart. LOVE.
  1:25pm
Cecile:

THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR the AC/DC. or the Seedies as some call them.
  1:26pm
Tom (The Bactrian Support Network):

AC/DC should have been Categorized as punk back in the day.. why Metal beyond me ....
  1:27pm
Tom (The Bactrian Support Network):

Pat Duncan & Billy Kelly - there are Paralells ..
  1:27pm
R. P.:

"Do They Owe Us a Living?" Maybe Jeffrey Lewis' cover.
  1:28pm
Cecile:

There are a lot of metal heads who love them, but don't consider them metal, more like hard blues rock.
  1:29pm
Cecile:

CAN'T EVEN FEED MY CAT!
  1:30pm
Cecile:

thank you so much again
  1:31pm
paw:

  1:31pm
Sean Daily:

Gods, I love "Hallelujah I'm a Bum".
  1:31pm
(mta) Tony:

Great Gary U.S. Bonds "Out of Work" suggestion...

Can ANYONE tell me if any swag's been mailed out since last Marathon? Just wondering...
  1:32pm
detroitdave:

Harry mcClintock RULES the roost!!
  1:33pm
Cecile:

I got swag about five weeks ago, Tony.
  1:37pm
Jeff M:

Great show -- it's got a cool collaborative energy. Which is not to imply there's anything inferior about a classic solo Liz show, but it's just fascinating how when you kids are both there in the studio, there's a distinct feel.
  1:37pm
(mta) Tony:

Thank you, Cecile, for letting me know they are being sent and they are in fact a bit behind, I presume due to Maegan's departure.
  1:38pm
Cecile:

I would still drop a line inquiring about it, never hurts.
  1:38pm
geoffrey:

earnst stoneman
all i gots gone
it son the internet archive its a good unemployment/loss song
  1:41pm
Cecile:

you should also mash up some eHarmony commercials in there, too...
  1:43pm
Cecile:

Oh - Merle Haggard - If We Make It Through December
  1:44pm
(mta) Tony:

Thank you, Cecile, for your good recommendation.
  1:57pm
Cecile:

GoF is always the right answer
  1:58pm
Jeff M:

This track (the B12 one) puts me in mind of some stuff on the vocal-less disc from Pinch's Underwater Dancehall. Except now it's not the current track anymore. Never mind.
  2:14pm
Jeff M:

Okay, a track whose energy is much lower than some recent things you've been playing (kinds draggy, in fact) but whose title is a darned fine thematic match is:

Poverty (Once Upon A Time in America) from John Zorn's "The Big Gundown".
  2:16pm
Jeff M:

kinda, I mean. Not kinds.
  2:23pm
Cecile:

I am holding out for the Death Magnetic remastering. You know, mixing it like it should have been mixed in the first place.
  2:25pm
Cecile:

geez, let me get into it before you fast forward it ADD people...;D
  2:25pm
Beth:

Hey stop talking over the Metallica. I haven't heard it yet, so it would be nice to not have the critical chatter over.
  2:26pm
Ike:

Thank you for reminding me that Metallica is mind-bogglingly lame, pathetic, and boring.
  2:26pm
Scott:

You have to laugh like Beavis and Butthead while listening to Metallica
  2:27pm
SJ:

Sounds like they pasted the same snare hit over every beat too..another insidious modern production technique.
  2:27pm
Cecile:

Hey, A3 has slow bits, too. You should fast forward thru them...

I cut Metallica so much slack for making Master of Puppets. Still. I am pathetic, as well.
  2:29pm
Liz B.:

Ha ha, sorry for the Metallica ADD, it's just that a band like Death Comes Along does the slow buildup to rocking finish much better.
  2:31pm
Cecile:

now, play some witchcraft....
  2:32pm
Jeff M:

Bob Katz is a pretty well-respected mastering engineer who often writes about the excessive compression problem these days. He has some articles at his site (some kind of technical), and he has his own "honor roll" he maintains of those now-rare releases which DON'T suck due to over-compression:

stingy d:

i think i hate yo la tengo for personal reasons unrelated to personal reasons if you know what i mean
  2:39pm
Cecile:

stingy, hunh?
  2:41pm
stingy d:

yo la tengo bites
  2:41pm
Liz B.:

Lay off YLT for a sec and rock out! Thanks for the link, Jeff!
  2:42pm
there i saidf it!:

this gunsligners track is 1,000 megagrams of pain!!!!!!
  2:43pm
stingy d:

yo liz... but i did.
  2:43pm
Cecile:

why are we bringing up yo la tengo? Do they have something to do with Hey Colossus?
  2:46pm
stingy d:

i brought up yo la tengo, cus i was gona and whatever, and then i came back, and i was here and everything, and i looked at the playlist so far and everything, and i saw that that dumb yo la tengo track got played and everythign, and i came to the conclusion that i don't them and whatever, earlier today or something.
  2:47pm
Jeff M:

I could totally see Bill Zurat playing this Matmos track during an overnight.
  2:48pm
Cecile:

Oh, I gotcha now.
  2:50pm
stingy d:

on the positive side... gunslinger beat the shit out of everything... and that matmos song was really cool, and i like (you) liz berg
  2:50pm
detroitdave:

Yeah, Sic Alps...........Woo Hoo!
  2:50pm
gunslinger:

s
  2:53pm
Agent R:

  2:54pm
detroitdave:

  2:55pm
Agent R:

  2:56pm
