Mic break between Sets 1 & 2. Background music played during it: (Listen to this set: Real)
Les Chakachas  Love is like a Violin (track 4)   Options Arriba!  RCA International  Phat, sentimental sound. Feels like it's the slow song at the record hop.

Set 2: mostly punk, at last. (Listen to this set: Real)
V2  When The World Isn't There (track 10) (Listen: Real)   Options Bad Teeth #4: UK Punk 1977 - 1982: V - Z  Hyped To Death  Recorded in Manchester, England, in 1978.

Set 3: the old radio show portion of the evening. (Listen to this set: Real)
Gunsmoke  The Ladykiller   Options Originally broadcast May 14, 1961  (no label)  A femme fatale is hired to kill off all the witnesses at a trial. She bumps off one of them - and then comes gunning for the Marshall.

One of Gunsmoke's last episodes: the series went off the air June 18, 1961.

I know I've said it before: see beyond the Far West setting of the series. Gunsmoke featured some of the best written human dramas ever written for old time radio. Many consider it to be the best written series ever on old time radio.

Mic break between Sets 3 & 4. Background music played during it: (Listen to this set: Real)
Les Chakachas  Love is like a Violin (track 4)   Options Arriba!  RCA International  Phat, sentimental sound. Feels like it's the slow song at the record hop.

Set 4: the psych & psych rock portion of the evening. (Listen to this set: Real)
Vapaa  Naky Alas (track 3) (Listen: Real)   Options Hum Hum Hum  Last Visible Dog  Slow-ish, deep & resonant, definitely in the psych rock scheme of things.
Bardo Pond  Ganges (track 10: faded up at -10:44) (Listen: Real)   Options Dilate  Matador  Deep & slow psych rock, builds a bit but stays fairly low key.
Religious Knives  In The Back (track 1) (Listen: Real)   Options Resin  No Fun Productions  Dark psych rock, drums only last :20.
Farflung  Silver Shrooms (track 6) (Listen: Real)   Options A Wound In Eternity  Meteor City  Quiet & deep start --> easy and dark-ish psych rock, with a more golden middle.
Sun Dial  Sunstroke (track 6) (Listen: Real)   Options Return Journey  Relapse  Deep & vaguely angry undertone for a while, then builds and settles in, reminds me of Sonic Youth twice, suddenly quiet end.  ***
Up-Tight  Song For Lucrezia I (track 1: begun -9:58) (Listen: Real)   Options Lucrezia  Alchemy  Really good psych rock, intense, active, speeds up near end.

Mic break between Sets 4 & 5. Background music played during it: (Listen to this set: Real)

Set 5: time to quiet down.... (Listen to this set: Real)
Kevin Drumm  Guillain-Barre (CD #1, track 1: faded out by -2:05) (Listen: Real)   Options Imperial Distortion  Hospital Productions  Tolling bells --> ultimately sounds like a flight of planes from some World War 2 movie. Guillain-Barre: a rare immune system disorder in which it attacks the peripheral nervous system, resulting in loss of muscle control. Now you know.
Troum  Sigqan Part 2 (track 2) (Listen: Real)   Options Sigqan  Desolation House  Starts warm & glowing, slightly throbbing underneath, very relaxing & pleasurable, changes to quiet & dreamier, then darker, very gradually quiets & calms down.  ***

Mic break between Sets 5 & 6. Background music played during it:
Les Chakachas  Love is like a Violin (track 4) (Listen: Real)   Options Arriba!  RCA International  Phat, sentimental sound. Feels like it's the slow song at the record hop.

Set 6. (Listen to this set: Real)
Mielu Bibescu  Mite, Mite (track 4) (Listen: Real)   Options The Rough Guide To The Music Of Romanian Gypsies  World Music Network  Incredible clarinet. This is a good compilation, with a mix of well known names (Fanfare Ciocarlia, Taraf de Haidouks) and not so well known.  ***
Formatia Valea Mare  Doina Lui Costel Sarambel (track 5) (Listen: Real)   Options Departe De Casa  MA  Most of the songs on this CD are very fast, indeed, often careening up to the edge of chaos. This song: slower parts alternate with jaunty and musique pompier (oom-pah bands).

They're a group of ex-Romanians, who were discovered while playing in the Paris Metro (subway).

End of show mic break. Background music played during it: (Listen to this set: Real)
