A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

 9:24am
dale:

that last song with the bit of ad copy reminded me of a commercial that the ad agency creates in Putney Swope. find it if you haven't seen it...
 9:28am
gumby:

Birds on the moon? What the hey?
 9:31am
listener mark:

Good morning trouble, good morning everyone
 9:34am
Jenniqua:

Bonne matin Trouble! I am going to pop some aspirin with you as I am hung over as well from last night's spastic speech making.
 9:40am
55fps:

If the conventions get me down, I try to recall Borat's speech at the rodeo to remind me of the absurdity of it all.
 9:41am
DJ Keili's Mom:

Great show! Love it!
 9:44am
Ken:

 9:44am

gumby:

buenos dias sebastian! Is that Santiago Chile?
 9:49am
sebastian in santiago:

SCL, yes. neither cuba nor compostela.
 9:52am
DJ Keili's Mom:

Oye! Que onda! Somos Chilenos! Fuimos a Punta Arenas y Valparaiso el ano pasado.
 9:52am
gumby:

Mrs. Gumby says Chile is very nice. I have to get there with her sometime. Once the little chips off the old clay block vamanos para universidad.
 9:56am
listener mark:

el ano pasado is being translated very peculiar on babel fish
 10:01am
DJ Keili's Mom:

HAHAHA! I just did it! That's hilarious. I said, "We are Chilean. We went to Punta Arenas and Valapariso last year" But I love what Babel Fish says it means.
 10:01am
sebastian in santiago:

"it's a nice place to visit and an even nicer place to leave". watch your EÑES!
 10:02am
listener mark:

It hears! That wave! We are Chilean! We went to End Arenas and Valparaiso the past anus.
 10:04am
Jenniqua:

I am loving this playlist Trouble. No aspirin required for me. The Triplets are the ultimate pain killer.
 10:04am
DJ Keili's Mom:

"Oye! Que onda" is just like saying, "Hey! What's going on!" My spelling is bad though.
 10:05am
DJ Keili's Mom:

This playlist is a work of art. I have to go dance with the baby. Have a nice day everyone!
 10:06am
gumby:

Enjoy your baby dance!!!! La vida loco es muy hermosa!
 10:17am
jeanine:

to the chileans who are apparently on this board right now-- i'm going to be spending three months (january-april) in Chillan, which is 5 hours south of Santiago. Anyone have any experiences there?
 10:32am
sebastian in santiago:

why on earh are you going to spend three months there??? do you work in agriculture? great sausage, though ;)
 10:38am
jeanine:

actually, yes! I'm going to be working on an organic berry farm about 30km from the city. Is the area pretty at least?
 10:45am
mark:

organic berry farm? you bloody hippy
 10:47am
trouble:

you go girl!
 10:48am
Jenniqua:

You must be psychic Trouble. I'm currently working on a David Bowie illustration and you played this wonderful song. Lovin' it!!!
 10:50am
jeanine:

All I know is picking strawberries in Chile will be way more awesome than shoveling snow in Massachusetts..
 10:52am
gumby:

jeanine
I saw that episode on Arnold (the football headed kid) it didn't turn out to good for him, indentured servitude and all.
Just kidding actually. I agree with trouble, YOU GO!!! To sample the smells & tastes of the big blue marble from the ground up, is truly to live.
 10:54am
sebastian in santiago:

the countryside is beautiful jeanine. and heck, you're right. you'll be under the southern summer sun while your friends are up to the neck in snow.
 10:56am
mark:

your right i'm just jealous, i'm just not sure about all this organic stuff, if there had been no green revolution there would be half as much food about
 10:58am
gumby:

And half as many people!!!!!!
 11:04am
gumby:

Instead of watching the convention last night I listened to Fabio's show and read about South American indigineous history. The book 1491 is well written and has some very interesting views on the sustainable agriculture of the ancient cultures. Growing beans and corn together to supplement and not destroy the soil is a bit of brilliance we need to revisit. THERE IS TONS OF UNLEARNING TO DO!!!
 11:06am
Lou:

preach on sistah...hypocrisy is part of their M O
 11:07am
jeanine:

amen! sustainable agriculture is the only way we're gonna sustain the human race, methinks
 11:07am
listener mark:

it's always darkest just before it goes completely black
 11:10am
mark:

yeah i'm sure progress can be made, and chemicals are not the only answer but its a bit rich hearing it from some rich yank who's never been hungry in their life, are there any large scale examples of comparable yields or is it all theory?
 11:12am
Parq:

I'm far too accustomed to the GOP's baldfaced duplicity to be shocked by it any more. What drops my jaw open is the pass they get on it. NPR fawned over Palin this morning like she was a Russian ballet star, and if they took that tone, I can only imagine what the rest of them (the "liberal media", doncha understand) were saying.
 11:13am
dc pat:

Actually it's the non-rich, non-yank subsistence farmers that can benefit from not having to buy fertilizers, pesticides, etc..
 11:14am
mark:

glad i don't live in US, 1 billion dollar election, whats going on there?
 11:14am
Mike in S. California:

I wish for once everyone would stay home on election day and we'd finally see as a country that there's something horribly wrong with electing a rich, elite minority to make decisions on how the rest of us will live. I'm awfully embarrassed as an adult to be "An American" and I wasn't like that as a child.
 11:16am
dc pat:

I noticed that too Parq. I'd like to ask Palin how abstinence-only sex education is going over in her house these days.
 11:18am
mark:

if u don't use $50 of fertilizers, pesticides, e.t.c. but then produce $100 less crop your not much better off...
 11:19am
Parq:

This Dylan cover is everything great about French pop music.
 11:20am
Jenniqua:

Really appropriate song.
 11:21am
Sean Daily:

What's this "liberal media" people keep harping on about, Parq? Cos I've looked around, and I ain't seen it...
 11:21am
lucienogene from france:

les chanteuses françaises n'ont pas de voies.;;;;BiZ
 11:21am
dc pat:

I'm not saying get rid of fertilizers/pesticides. The problem is non-organic versions are big business and are largely unaffordable by poor farmers anyway.
 11:22am
gumby:

Ah chaos, I love it when that happens to the posts.
 11:23am
dc pat:

Me too--everyone should have to address 3 topics at once.
 11:23am
Barry:

As a former Alaskan, I wouldn't worry about Palin. Every conservative republican up there in the 90's belonged to the secessionist party - it was in, so unless someone is paid off - always a possibility in Alaska - we will find that she wanted Alaska to leave the union as little as ten years ago - this in a candidate from the party of Lincoln.
 11:24am
Mike in S. California:

1. Vote "None of the Above."
2. Try Vegan, you might like it.
3. Ignore my suggestions and think for yourself.
 11:26am
mark:

your right, we'll all have to vegans in the future, just don't pretend its nice
 11:26am
Parq:

Sean, the liberal media is [sic] everywhere, doncha realize? Just like those liberals who have been running Washington for the last eight years. Romney said so last night, and why would he lie?
 11:27am
mark:

eating abit of ham at the moment and its bloody lovely
 11:27am
gumby:

1. Vote with your conscience even if it's the legalize pot guy.
2. Sample all things edible, it's more global.
3. I concur with Mike in S. Calli.
 11:28am
Homer Simpson:

Ham HMMMMMM.
 11:28am
Parq:

And I buy as much of my food from farm markets as I can, and -- what was the third topic? -- oh yeh, my idea of "sexy singles" is Francoise Hardy 45s.
 11:29am
Homer Too:

Nummm, All things edible....drooool!!
 11:30am
Bad Ronald:

I want beer!
 11:30am
dc pat:

2. farm markets cheese
C. Palin = Steppford wife
1.5 Gang of 4!
 11:32am
GP:

Parq....Francoise Hardy is worthy of a Homer Drool salute!

Morning all, good morning to Trouble.
 11:32am
gumby:

gang of 4= OWWW, OWWW, OOOH!
 11:33am
Parq:

I thought that, the other night, the Ex displayed a glorious fury very similar to what I remember from the Go4's shows.
 11:34am
55fps:

a. Wendy's 'meatanarian' commercial
b. Palin's got that 'hot for teacher' look
c. record "How To Succeed In Business w/out Really Trying' at noon
 11:36am
Pengwag:

I only eat what I grow or buy in the store.
Palin should be made to eat Bear.
....The right to arm Bears.... discuss
 11:37am
gumby:

On the Ex & Getachew. I loved the mix of fury and furriness in the music. Elephant trombones and that lilting little walk around melody Getachew played it just added to the diversity.
 11:39am
Sean Daily:

I didn't watch the RNC last night. I was at the weekly Empires of Chivalry and Steel event here in Las Vegas. Did you know you can hit people with SWORDS at those things? That trumps a bunch of old white Republicans (and one young and dangerously underqualified Republican) anytime.
 11:39am
dc pat:

How about that clarinet player??--that guy sounded like whole jungle
 11:41am
gumby:

I was too far away to see what he was playing, but he got some nice birdesque tones out of there. Also Parq the crunchy guitar chords are always wonderful fury amidst the calm & chaos.
 11:41am
Mike in S. California:

"Weeeeee spell trouble: T-R-O-U-B-B-B-L-E!" - (((Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks)))
 11:44am
dc pat:

he was getting birds but also elephants and monkeys and such
 11:46am
Parq:

Yeh, the clarinet solo was one of the high points of the set. And, as I've said elsewhere, the bass player was the heart and soul of the whole thing.
 11:52am
GP:

Sean,
What is that? Some kind of Medieval Times Place that fosters audience participation ( bringing back memory of "The Cable Guy").
 11:53am
gumby:

Thanks for the tunes and thoughts trouble, thanks for the thoughts everyone. Freeform music and thoughts FOREVER!!!!
 11:55am
GP:

Free Freakin form from fantastic fabulous Trouble
 11:56am
Parq:

Lovely show and great on-line conversation, as always.
 11:56am
Freewheeling Franklin:

F-yeah!
 11:59am
dc pat:

cheers freedom-lovers.
 12:00pm
Pengwag:

Great show
 12:03pm
Sean Daily:

GP, it's not Medieval Times. It's more like a club for lunatics. It's actually like the Society for Creative Anachronism. You make your own armor and, often, your own weapons (shinai (sp?), rapier and blunted steel) and then whack the hell out of each other. I'm not involved yet, but I know the basics.
 7:15pm
mike tp:
