Listener comments!

  9:03am
Ypsilanti Doug:

I greet you this morning with a barbaric yawp.
  9:04am
C:

That Clay morning show was awesome. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard so early in the morning.
  9:06am
jonathan:

clay reminded me of david sedaris.
  9:08am
Hatch:

I wish he was on before me every Tuesday.
  9:16am
Monster:

Morning all. I'm still here :P
  9:19am
Parq:

These JB remixes are somethin' else altogether. I just wish he could have heard them.
  9:33am
Doug:

I'll be back later, I'm going to go deliver some bottled hot water to babies.
  9:33am
Drew:

I'm in love with Lil Wayne.
  9:35am
Parq:

We'll need a contractor to manufacture bottles strong enough to hold hot water. Of course, the obvious choice is Haliburten . . .
  9:36am
Listener Dave from NH:

The closest I can come to parsing that McCain-ism is that you heat milk to give to babies so that it's warm. That isn't very close, mind you.
  9:36am
g:

Hatch: woodCARVER Steiner . . . (but who's counting?)

Did you hear about the new Herzog docu about the antarctic? Sounds awesome.
  9:37am
Hatch:

Drew, AMERICA is in love with Lil Wayne.
  9:47am
jonathan:

when does the new herzog come out?
  9:49am
Hatch:

It starts tomorrow at Film Forum in New York. And I think it will air on the Discovery Channel later in the year.
  9:53am
?:

got it on the netflix queue . . . sounds like it's in the vein of Herzog's "overwhelming and collective murder" view of nature

and netflix says the ski jumper one is "Sculptor" Steiner, but I've seen it titled different ways . ..
  10:00am
Lang:

what was your breakfast Hatch?
  10:05am
Barney:

1 hunter and 7 hunters?
  10:06am
?:

i heard "one soldier and seven soldiers"
  10:06am
Bad Ronald:

Love this Breeders track!!!
  10:07am
Cecile:

Dang, only Kim Deal could do that baseline as well as the Aerosmith dude.
  10:08am
Lang:

Hatch I think your love of Aerosmith is so endearing!!!
  10:09am
Hatch:

The Aerosmith dude has a name (Tom Hamilton).
  10:11am
C++:

NOT WIRE, MBV, Hatch
  10:11am
Cecile:

I know, but I kept wanting to call him Brad Whitford, and I knew THAT was wrong.
  10:12am
Cecile:

Geez, gimme a break. The espresso hasn't kicked in yet, and I'm damn old. ;D
  10:13am
Hatch:

Brad Whitford is the rhythm guitarist. The one who wears a shirt.
  10:14am
Hatch:

Apologies Cecile! Just being playful.
  10:15am
Cecile:

I know. LOL! I like the banter. Had to give you grief...
  10:39am
Hendrik:

YES YES Ignatz! Say hello to Bram from all belgian people
  11:01am
Mongo:

Hatch - It's 95 degrees in the shade here on the Upper East Side play play some more feel good music - How about suicidal tendencies?
  11:12am
g:

can't believe I never heard Alex Chilton before--that rocked
  11:13am
Hatch:

Big Star?
  11:15am
Matt:

Is the rest of Thank You Friends as awesome?
  11:16am
g:

apparently they are a big, glaring, gaping, chasm in my listening experience--I must have missed the memo.

where do I start?
  11:22am
Matt:

G,

There is a CD with their first 2 records (#1 Record and Radio City) that is a good place to start.
  11:24am
kwhitehead:

Hatch: I live in Connecticut. I apologize for droopy Joe. He's a real embarassment. I worked for Ned, but we couldn't make much of a dent in the land of steady habits.
  11:25am
Parq:

"Sleazy" - you know. Leaves pork rib bones lying around. Plays his giant radio too damn loud. Walks funny. That kinda thing.
  11:25am
$200K/yr. is rich?:

you obviously have not been pricing Maserati's lately. believe me, $200K a year does not go as far as you think.
  11:29am
Hatch:

I hope you're kidding. $200k a year is twice the average household income for an American with a doctorate degree, and it's more than 99% of the rest of the population makes. How ridiculously rich do you have to be to be considered rich?
  11:29am
Bad Ronald:

Yeah, try living on 200k/yr. with a huge monkey on your back!
  11:31am
Hatch:

Right. You can only afford a new sports car once every 4 or 5 years. Truly rich people can buy one every couple of months.
  11:35am
Parq:

Ah, America. There are people making $2 million a year who will tell you with a straight face that they're not rich because they can't live as well as people they know making $50 million a year.
  11:37am
Henry David Thoreau:

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone.
  11:38am
rich in spirit:

Who needs money when we have WFMU?
  11:38am
Ike:

I think that was a satirical post, Hatch. Plus, he spelled "Maseratis" incorrectly. Apostrophe abuse!

Seriously, our crazed consumerist fantasyland aims to brainwash everyone into spending ALL the money they have, and then some. Or else you're supposedly not doing enough for the economy. So, even some $200k earners think they don't have enough.

As for me, I'll be rich if I can vanquish the scourge of apostrophe abuse. You can't make something plural using an apostrophe, people!
  11:40am
kwhitehead:

Gah! Now I know where Stephen Merritt got his shtick from.
  11:42am
mike:

pretty amazing sequence going on here. ditto on the stephen merritt comment but man that was a great song
  11:43am
GUMBY:

We took our economic incentive check & went to Jamaica. I wasn't clear on who'se economy I was supposed to stimulate's. So I picked a sunny one.
  11:44am
Hatch:

I still didn't get my check, dammit! I need it, too. I'm broke as broke can be.
  11:46am
GUMBY:

It wasn't a real check. (If there is such a thing). It was an electronic deposit.
  11:48am
Ike:

Gumby, if you were abusing apostrophes in an attempt to get me riled up, well, it worked. Damn.
  11:49am
Cecile:

I got mine, we bought Ikea cabinets. No more stuff on the floor...
  11:50am
Bad Ronald:

never got mine...
  11:50am
GUMBY:

Sorry Ike, I just couldn't help myself's.
  11:50am
Jt:

The simple thing is, it is not how rich you are, it is how rich you feel.
Rich people Multi millionaires will "feel poor" if they are not adding to their income if they are losing money etc. Oh, poor them! Hatch cut up yer credit cards! that is the worst kind of debt!
  11:53am
jeanine:

Haven't gotten my check yet either. Apparently if you owed taxes when you filed this year, even if that money got taken out of your account via direct deposit, you get a paper check for some reason. I don't know about you, but I need that money like, yesterday.
  11:55am
Hatch:

That makes sense. I owed lots and lots, hence me being broke. That's what you get for being honest and reporting your freelance income.
  11:55am
Doug:

I bought 200 techno records and a Bosphorus Turk 22" ride with my bribe check. I am very pleased to have stimulated the economies of Turkey and Craigslist.
  11:57am
Parq:

We got our check a month ago. We bought the maid a new uniform.
  12:00pm
hendrik:

bye hatch great show today!
  12:00pm
jeanine:

To make myself feel less whiny, I'm perusing the Failed States Index... things are (much) worse in Haiti, Sierra Leone, and Burundi, just to name a few..
