Listener comments!

  9:01am JJZ:

Morning.
  9:03am Listener Dave:

Hey Ken - how are you feeling this week? Any new diagnosis?
  9:03am Wes:

Beefhearty
  9:05am Negator:

Let's smoke Ken's crystals, HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAH!
  9:09am Ken:

Morning all - Struggling through computer audio problemos here.... drat! Down to one computer... I really need two.

Same diagnosis as last week LPR Reflux. Nausea milder tham previous weeks but still there and I am most definitely under-caffeinated.
  9:11am nEGATOR:

Can you drink Chai Tea?
  9:13am Ken:

Tea?! Tea is for pussies! It's the caffeine anyway that makes me sick.
  9:13am dei xhrist:

Yay Tom Waits! I will bear his scraggly love child!
  9:15am dei x:

Did you try eating candied ginger, or putting a slice of the root in hot water? Which would not be tea, keeping your machismo intact.
  9:17am Ken:

Thanks, yes, must try ginger. Sorry about the tea remark, just trying to grapple with networking problems and Im taking it out on Negator.
  9:17am Negator:

I have a pussy and drink Chai Tea. Don't you want one?
  9:17am John from Oslo:

Hia Ken, Try a nice hot cup of red wine toddy with rhum and a slice of lemon, it is the best thing that doesn't help.
  9:19am Negator:

"hot cup of red wine toddy with rhum and a slice of lemon". Listen to him, he's from Oslo!
  9:20am latetothegame:

whats up with Sweden - i like Sweden -its meatballs, it's zany chefs, and the noisy band Dungen - so it that regard - HELLO SWEDEN! but still the curiosity remains - whats the dillyo with the shout out?

and if you can play some Dungen that'll be cool too!
  9:21am dei x:

Booze helps. Rilly. You relax and your body can kick into self healing mode while your conscious mind looks at something twinkly.
HALLO MANCHESTAH!
  9:21am Barney:

MOOOOOOO Cows!
  9:21am John from Oslo:

Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I want to be,
Pony trekking or camping,
Or just watching TV.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
It's the country for me.
  9:22am jonathan:

COWS! god bless.
  9:24am Negator:

I partied with the cows in 1990 or something until Thor's friend started fondling him in the room with us all there. Time to go home!
  9:29am Barney:

I saw the Heroin Sheiks play in Minneapolis in 2000 or so and Shannon's mom (I had to ask her after the show and pay my respects) stood out in the audience as a nice middle-aged midwestern woman beaming up at her son.
  9:31am dei x:

Isn't it great when parents support their children in their chosen endeavors!
  9:33am Prince Von Ahole:

My first concert was Alice Cooper. There were these giant ballons filled with somekind of fake blood -- well, they weren't filled per-say but there was enough blood in them to make a mess when broken. And they were broken by us the fans soon after they were floated out over the crowd. My parents were horrified when they picked me up after the show. I was directly under one of those blood balloons during the show! God bless Alice Cooper!!
  9:36am norwegian architect dude:

finally some tatu music..I love fake lesbians!!
  9:37am Prince Von Ahole:

Ken -- what do you know about the tATu movie coming out?
  9:38am Wes:

Bjork would have nailed this track, tATu hurts my ears
  9:43am Ken:

Do I know about the forthcoming tATu movie?! I'm counting the days, Herr Prince!
  9:52am Negator:

QUICK! Somebody get Ken some caffeine!
  9:55am JJZ:

You would think some lively music would perk him up.
  9:59am jonathan:

who is playing guitar on this track? the dj rupture thing.
excellent!
  10:17am miss buxley:

heeeey ken,,,whats shakin??? did you have a grooooovy week??? i sure did,,are you gonna check out that new movie "MEET THE SPARTANS" commin out this weekend? i mit myself,,btw i sent you some mail ,,,,see you next week,,,=) =)
  10:17am beth:

Ken, as I was noticing Persepolis' Oscar nomination in the paper, you played an excerpt from the soundtrack at that precise moment. Coincidence? I think not!
  10:17am nEGATOR:

The competition payed for the "..that record sucked" comment. Somebody tipped off Sonic Youth labels competition.
  10:17am giselle:

that warehouse of "landing on water"..definitely possible. I think you're on to something
  10:21am Howard Stern:

Hey, this is my rap!
  10:21am Héctor:

ken, I agree totally with your comments about the use of music on music soundtracks... to sell, to sell cds.
Specially focused the Landing on Water placement... David Geffen must be crying about the day he signed Neil Young!
  10:22am lesbianlove:

all this talk of lesbian love makes me want some caffeine and some music - HELLO OSLO
  10:22am Howard Stern:

Lesbians, that is.
  10:25am SueB:

shit. did anyone else lose the stream?
  10:26am raga:

aye, sueb. i did.
and hi ken.
  10:26am Negator:

Lost stream, Now back! Shit!
  10:27am woj:

yup, stream kaput here too
  10:27am Ken:

Which stream was it that cut out, the 128k MP3 stream?
  10:28am SueB:

yes. but i tried 32 as well - no good.
  10:28am Okasa:

Oh my god, they killed Kenny!

(My 128k MP3 stream is still dead)
  10:28am patrick:

both 128 and 32
  10:29am tk:

both down. now work is unbearable...
  10:29am keith:

all that lesbian talk burned up the connection.
  10:30am Listener Dave from NH:

The 128K MP3 stream died out on me a minute ago. The Windows Media stream took a while to get up and running but it's playing (the 128K one's still deaded).
  10:30am ~L:

I'm not a Kimya fan, but you tube The Moldy Peaches on the View; it is so cute when the guy kisses Whoopi at the end!
  10:31am woj:

personally, i blame bergen belsen.
  10:32am woj:

aac+ is working
  10:34am dei x:

iTunes not working
  10:35am Ken:

Yes, move over to the AAC+ stream. It sounds really good actually, almost as good as the 1298k MP3 stream. There are links to it over there to the left.
  10:38am norwegian architect dude:

no wfmu mp3 stream in norway:(
  10:39am Dickdong (UK):

windows media player working in UK - nothing else
  10:40am Vicki:

AAC not working either here, sorry Ken
  10:41am Ken:

Thanks for the early warning everybody... we have a fairly serious server problem in New York City.. Im not sure which streams are up and which are down, actually. But the present state is how its going to remain for least a few hours and possibly more.
  10:41am norwegian architect dude:

windows media player is also working in norway:)
  10:42am jonathan:

windows media is working in prov.
  10:43am Vicki:

Realplayer stream IS working.
  10:44am Negator:

When Giulliani saved NYC he should have taken a look at the servers. Give him a call and tell him he missed saving something...
  10:46am Carmichael:

I have 20k windows way out in Sacramento.

Did Giuliani save something?
  10:47am Negator:

You know this Buddy Scott Trio song is really a Christmas Song isn't it?
  10:47am Ben:

Hi Ken, great seeing you all last night, thanks for the masterful clog dancing demo!
  10:47am Prince Von Ahole:

I really love that Barbecue song by BST -- I ing that song to all the girls!
  10:48am dei x:

not working for me. I'll have to console myself with an archive already on my system. sniff.
  10:49am Raj:

Got the reallplayer going.
  10:50am Ken:

OK, here's what's up: Both MP3 streams and the Ogg stream are down. All other streams are up (Windows, Real and AAC+) but each of those three working streams require particular players and are not as universally good as the MP3 streams. Winamp 5 or better will open the AAC+ stream which is the best sounding of the working streams and the only stereo one. Winamp is free and its great but its only for pc: winamp.com
  10:53am woj:

aac+ still functioning here. foobar2000 player supports it very nicely too -- and it's a lot lighter on the system resources than winamp these days...
  10:53am Prince Von Ahole:

I use 20k Windows media player for streaming -- is working fine and always does!
  10:55am dei x:

yay I'm back. Windows media.
  10:55am Ken:

Woj is right - foobar2000 is great! Got a link for downloading it woj?
  10:55am doron:

streams are back...
  10:56am jonathan:

man, that fire on fire song is so strange and great.
  10:56am Ken:

Howd that happen Doron? Did the office jockeys at TH do a restart?
10:57am the nation and their allies:

hurrah!
  10:57am Ken:

Thanks Doron!
  10:57am norwegian architect dude:

sweet.. iTunes stream are back:)
  10:58am Ike H:

Hey, you're finally promoting the AAC-Plus stream! Under duress, of course, but still....

**NOTICE: AAC-Plus plug-in for Windows Media Player is free here:
http://www.orban.com/plugin/

Ooops too late. MP3 streams are back, so now nobody will use it.
  10:59am Negator:

North Cakalacky streams is backy by cracky! Who's got the cracky!
  11:03am dei x:

Negator, come back to our planet.
  11:06am cheri:

ken-time to be serious,,i want to thank you for being real understandin i know that i'm takin a risk with this last weekly comment,,but i sent you 2 mails explainin it all,,i hope you mail me back later,,thanks again ken,,,,=)
  11:06am Dickdong (UK):

You fiend! You cruel, cruel man!
  11:07am -max-:

HELLO JERSEYCITY!!

Ike H: Did listen a bit on the AAC+ connection using Winamp. Sounded a bit louder, but the speakers here are not that great so I couldn't tell if the sound quality is better. I'm just glad to be able to hear it at all, to be honest.

-max-
  11:08am Dickdong:

.... but anything's better than nothing.
  11:09am Ike H:

For anybody with a slower connection, I still say, check out that AAC+ stream. Sounds waaaaay better than all the other low-bandwidth streams, including the 32k MP3 stream. Almost as good as the 128k MP3 stream. And it costs FMU less money to stream it to you.
  11:10am Jilda:

excellent job restoring the stream...dont cross the streams...and by the way we're going broke, vote Ron Paul 2008

laters
  11:11am Doug:

Ah lovely .. playing Drumheller ... those fellas are very talented and, of course, pretty much completely overlooked. They've all been very active in the Toronto avant scene for years.
  11:11am Jilda:

AAC+ rules
  11:11am dei x:

I believe in faux lesbian russian love, the easter bunny, and the government of people by the people
  11:12am patrick:

ron paul? hes got to be the WORST choice!
  11:13am woj:

foobar is found at http://www.foobar2000.org/

i might stick with the aac+ for now, actually. as others have said, the sound is pretty dang good for such a low bitrate and, since crappy speakers at work are the order of the day, why waste bandwidth?
  11:13am -max-:

Ike H sez: "...And it costs FMU less money to stream it to you..."

Thanks, I didn't know this. Will be changing and using it for my main connection.

money?? / music!!!!!

-max-
  11:14am jojo:

ken is the man, but that free will claim is large, i mean ken doesn't even color his hair!
  11:16am Carmichael:

I believe in Daniel Johnston, running as meditation (and self-medication), and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

And lesbians, faux or no faux
  11:19am ?:

Is this song a joke?
  11:20am Ike H:

Although I'm not sure how MUCH less money. I guess it could be a pretty small amount... ??? Anybody know?
  11:20am Doug:

The Paris tune? He's not joking, no.

As far as I know.
  11:20am dei x:

windows media and foobar play a fraction of a second off, making this Paris track even more layered. So, foobar+FMU(listen) = saved $[FMU]?
  11:21am milo:

WOW!!!!!!!! Ken is really jaming today. GO D.J. KEN!!!!!!!!!
  11:23am jojo:

the stream break got us to hook up the old radio, it works great...like home it sounds better and is the real way to listen to Ken's show about freedom, wow i feel so free
  11:23am Jilda:

laters

military overstretch is destroying this country.
  11:24am Bad Ronald:

EC does a pretty good cover of this tune on "Out of Our Idiot"
  11:26am Doug:

Yuh! Wah! Rohh, wah! Ooh, wah! Aah!
  11:32am Carmichael:

From Yoko Ono to Peggy Lee in the same set. I need a neck brace.
  11:33am norwegian architect dude:

wow.. ken is playing black coffee.. you know coffee is not good for you ken.. hehe
  11:34am dei x:

audio free association! And, a nice thing about foobar is that the little info thing in my taskbar shows their logo and the title/artist that's playing. faboo!
  11:35am Mouth from the South:

Yeah, Rita Lee ! Go Brasil ! Viva o Brasil, o melhor pais do mundo !
  11:36am Ken:

MFTS - Do you think we dont understand what you're saying? You said that Brazil eats America's ass, am I right?!
  11:37am Mouth From the South:

America's Balls (Nuts if you want a cheesy pun), but close enough.
  11:38am ?:

Jorge Ben ? Too much. I'm tuning in every Wed from here onwards. Parabéns pela musica brasileira.
  11:41am joe nathan:

that makes two of us.
  11:42am Listener Dave from NH:

Coffee isn't good for you, it's *great* for you.
There is one good thing about not drinking coffee for a while - that first cup after you quit quitting is really, really, really good.
  11:45am woj:

i love the bed music for ken's final mic break ... but it always means the gig is up...alas!
  11:49am Listener Dave:

The Times had a list of most effective product placements last Sunday. The Guitar Hero South Park episode was #1.
  11:50am reverb:

i think you are right about juno - that movie did kind of bug me because it did seem to be like a 40 year old rendition of adolescence. I think the ads were kind of a self reflexive joke in Talledaga nights - still sucked as a movie though.
  11:50am Sean Daily:

Um... is Ken having a Kenny G moment?
  11:51am Doug from Canada:

Don't we all have Kenny G moments?
  11:54am Negator:

Some Dirty Southern German crunk!
  11:54am woj:

sippin' on weiss und juice!
  11:54am Negator:

Kenny G! I LOVE CAKE!
  11:55am Andrew:

Somebody please tar and feather those responsible for Ricky Bobby.
  11:58am esch oder anarchie!:

Ken -- do y'all at WFMU have any records by the great, great, great Hamburg ex-punker Knarf Rellom? For instance: Autobiographie einer Heizung?
  2:39pm Ken:

Esch, I've never heard of Knarf Rellom but I can check. I love that Hamburg punk! Was he in any Hamburg bands?
