  3:30pm
sadie:

scott walker, YUCK! it now smells like old spice in here
  3:31pm
Irwin:

No disrespecting Scott Walker around here. That man's earned your worship.

Yes, some calypso planned. A little treasure from Muriel.

And hiya, Kim!
  3:33pm
north guinea hills:

i can respect a man w/o liking his music just as easily as i can despise a man and love his music
  3:37pm
Jackie:

can i despise this song?
  3:39pm
Wes:

What...you don't enjoy feeling like you're shopping @ K-mart?
  3:40pm
Charles:

This is some mightily icky music.
  3:41pm
Charles:

I second the calypso... maybe some Lord Melody?
  3:42pm
north guinea hills:

omg, i have this talbot brothers LP
  3:42pm
jackie:

the only thing that could have made that song tolerable is if i a slushy in my hand with a wicked case of brain freeze...
  3:44pm
Charles:

Is Miley Cyrus related to that Billy Ray halfwit?
  3:45pm
Wes:

It's his daughter. She makes $3.5 mil a year.
  3:46pm
Markus:

i hate my step father
  3:46pm
Charles:

That's worth an hour of hate.
  3:47pm

  3:48pm
Parq:

It's worth noting at this point that Imogene Coca is one great lady. Just sayin'.
  3:48pm
sabrina:

irwin--you have no special holiday plans?? i find that hard to believe,,
  3:49pm
Wes:

Hannah Montana Super Fantastic Holiday Special on TiVo if I had to wager....
  3:49pm
Charles:

Imogen Coca and Scott Walker are fantastic, IMO.
  3:51pm
zoe:

i've got a crush on petra haden
  3:54pm
north guinea hills:

that cracked me up, wes
  3:56pm
Charles:

quite a take on Joy Division's "Transmission", here
  4:00pm
Ike:

Charles, have you heard Low's cover of "Transmission"?

I'm with Sadie, Tom, NGH and SM on Scott Walker. "Smells like old spice in here"... BWAH! I'll take Miley Cyrus over Scott Walker any day. OK, that's sort of like saying "I'll take asparagus in gelatin over brussel sprouts in gelatin any day" but still....

Great show!
  4:01pm
north guinea hills:

i love low's cover of transmission
  4:02pm
Charles:

@Ike: haven't heard it, but I'll be looking for it.
I like Scott Walker for all the wrong reasons, it's almost irritainment for me.
  4:02pm
Parq:

I'm with you, Charles. Christopher Lloyd sings Joy Division, yeah? Moving on, this Soul Coughing track sports one of my favorite grooves of all time.
  4:03pm
Kelly from Chicago:

galaxie 500's cover of ceremony is amazing!
  4:04pm
Listener Dave:

In a weird concidence, I happend to be reading Mike Doughty's blog right before the Soul Coughing song started. Creepy.
  4:04pm
sadie:

what ever happened to these guys?
  4:05pm
Charles:

@Kelly: I saw them perform it at the Riviera years ago and it was fantastic
  4:05pm
Catarrh:

They discovered soothing Hall's mentholyptus.
  4:06pm
north guinea hills:

there's something about this song i can identify w/... (soul coughing)
  4:06pm
Charles:

@sadie: They broke up in '91, and now there's Damon n' Naomi.
  4:08pm
Charles:

The drum track on that track was pretty compelling. It's the clipping.
  4:10pm
Charles:

"Shadow-Staffer" really gives Irwin's status some drama.

Legend of Irwin: Shadow-Staffer
  4:13pm
googlemonkey:

Shadow or Shadowy?
  4:15pm
Charles:

He called himself a "Shadow Staffer" a moment ago.
  4:18pm
Charles:

"Shadowy Staffer from a Shadowy Planet"?
  4:18pm
Charles:

Anyway, it's good to hear Irwin again.
  4:21pm
Lewis:

aahh, Jeremy Wallace - another "heard him first on WFMU" gem. Although, I have always found the connection with Irwin intriguing - wouldn't have been my first guess of DJ to play him. comments?
  4:21pm
Wes:

Man, this band was so much better before the goat showed up to sing vocals...and, this show has turned remarkably better since Billy Ray was crushed in the court of popular opinion.
  4:28pm
Wes:

Are you sure you want STOCKHAUSEN and not MOTORHEAD?
  4:28pm
Doug:

Motorhausen
  4:29pm
harriet:

i love fankie balck, he's so yummy, and doesn't smell like old spice
  4:29pm
Parq:

I saw the Pixies back in the day, and even bought the album with the monkey on the cover, and *still* have been trying for two decades to understand what the big deal is.
  4:29pm
Hunker Bill:

Motorhausen and Walkhead
  4:30pm
Kelly from Chicago:

i hear ya' harriet, mmmm
  4:31pm
Charles:

Yeah, I haven't figured the whole "Pixies hype" thing, either. Galaxie 500 was much better, IMO.
  4:34pm
Listener Dave:

I'm with you Parq. I saw the Pixies and Happy Mondays at some godawful club on Long Island (long story, my now-wife and I got dragged along with another couple who had free tickets) and Happy Mondays were flat out terrible and the Pixies were loud and boring.
  4:35pm
north guinea hills:

i'm actually going to dissent on this one, i actually like pixies, which i find odd. but honestly, i probably only voluntarily listen to them once every 9 months
  4:36pm
Listener Dave:

Oh yeah, and I think Galaxie 500 were a lot better too. Saw them a few times way back when. Absolutely hypnotic.
  4:36pm
Charles:

Even the Happy Mondays wonder how they got so big back in the day.
  4:36pm
Nelson:

am i really listening to wfmu? what is going on?
  4:38pm
Nelson:

all my friends say stop this dreadful song!
  4:38pm
please god:

MAKE IT STOP!
  4:38pm
Charles:

That... was a segue from Hell
  4:39pm
Charles:

and I love it still
  4:39pm
north guinea hills:

i dug the luke bryan (the redneck in me must like it).... and what a segue......
  4:41pm
Ike:

Yeah, he's definitely baiting us.

Yeah Charles, that segue was beyond incredibly bizarre. Yet it worked.

And I'm with NGH on the Pixies. They could kick Aerosmith's arse all up and down the streets of Boston anyway. IMO.
  4:42pm
Nelson:

feed me lots of drugs. . . . i cant handle the irony anymore
  4:43pm
harriet:

what ya lookin' for, maybe some earplugs ?
  4:44pm
Charles:

And now on to Raymond Scott! I wonder what will happen next.
  4:46pm
Nelson:

I'll take some Raymond Scott
  4:47pm
Nelson:

Just not Scott Walker
  4:47pm
Charles:

I stand corrected, it's only Scottish
  4:47pm
?:

that last piece "scott" was amazing.
  4:49pm
Charles:

Pixie-schmixie
  4:51pm
michael:

zeppelin rocks harder than aerosmith
  4:52pm
Ted:

Praise the lord!
  4:52pm
Charles:

Ooh! Thanks for playing this earwax-melter. This kid rocks harder than aerosmith, zeppelin, and oasis!
  4:53pm
Listener Dave:

Rod and Todd Flanders have nothing on this kid.
  4:53pm
Charles:

Is this a young Tammy Fae?
  4:54pm
michael:

isn't this huckabee's theme song!?
  4:54pm
north guinea hills:

looks like we need a cardiologist (the asiaticos)
  4:55pm
Ted:

Tammy Fae Rocked!
  4:55pm
Charles:

maybe an optometrist, too
  4:59pm
Parq:

That's it, I'm calling the next CD "Maybe An Optometrist, Too".
  5:03pm
Listener Mike:

maybe something old and scratchy
  5:14pm
north guinea hills:

we should start talking about our dreams to irwin, he would just love that! (evil laugh)
  5:30pm
Charles:

This is pretty nice (I Hate Camera). Sweet synth textures!
  5:32pm
north guinea hills:

ok, see y'all next time. thanks for the tunes, irwin.
  5:34pm
dead dead dead:

fukn genius
  5:56pm
~L:

Hi Irwin,
I already have silences imposed by a tuner in need of repair, now you're just confusing me. Oh, last night at the Yo La Tengo Hanukkah show, one of the guys in Red Cross was wearing a Hannah Montana tee-shirt. I thought you'd appreciate that.
  5:58pm
BZ:

No Playlist for Old Men
  5:58pm
maria:

  5:58pm
billy bob:

  5:58pm
NOOOOOOOOOO:

  6:00pm
Gregory:

  6:00pm
Parq:

Many thanks for a great show, Ol' Pal I, from a fellow unabashed pop-head.
  6:01pm
merv:

ohhh funnny I thought you were Mike Lupica and I thought shit he is sounding a lot like Irwin. ok now I get it. YOU are IRWIN
  2:31pm
