Listener Bryan (the Professor):
The Beach Boys were part of the “5%” of pop music that Bernstein said he not only enjoyed but saw as revolutionary in the world of music, and art at large for that matter. This new strand typified the times. When listing the masterpieces of the era, he declared: “All the truly great works of our century have been borne of despair, or of protest, or of a refuge from both, but anguish informs them all.”

i have been listening while at a cat sitting job -- i think these two handsome Tuxedo guys are loving your selections too :)
and thank you for hosting another cat adoption party! i will be cat sitting in Hoboken and Jersey City that day -- but i sm hoping that i can stop by
and thank you for this amazing Brian Wilson tribute!! the word "iconic" gets thrown around a lot nowadays -- but he truly was (and remains!) an icon
my first (and only!) boyfriend in high school LOVED The Beach Boys! to look at him -- "typical" 1970s "burnout" -- you would never know, but they were his favorite band -- i got him Endless Summer for his birthday (i think) one year
i gotta run to a doctor's appointment! so i will have to catch the rest of your show on the archives -- but always such a treat to hear you on WFMU again :)

I'm spiritual but not religious. I don't believe in an afterlife, but IF there is, my brother is with Brian hoping to hear "Disney Girls" one last time. Perhaps corny to some, but I love it, too. So IF you can play that one, it'll be wonderful.

Thanks you all for your heartfelt condolences. WFMU listeners are the most special group of people in the world. There are none like us anywhere. I've been here for 58 years and from Day 1 when I was only 14, I knew I was onto something extra special. I hope to meet many of you at the fmu meet-up at the Beer Authority next Friday, June 20th, @6 p.m. They're at 40th St. & 8th Ave. I'll be there and I'll buy a beer for anyone who speaks to me.
