Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

Hello little Danny

I have always thought that “longhairs” was from the classical world, referring to European artists who played esoteric music. Don’t ask me how I came to this conclusion, but I think in popular culture, images of classical musicians often had quite long hair.

now that we have a critical mass, I have a survey question: those of you with record collections, how do you clean your records? I had the regular "discwasher" brush for decades and recently upgraded to the "spin-clean" but i'm not sure it's effective.

Listener Gregory:
‘Moldy figs are purist advocates of early jazz, originally those such as Rudi Blesh, Alan Lomax, and James Jones, who argued that jazz took a wrong turn in the early 1920s with developments such as the introduction of printed scores. Blesh, for example, dismissed the work of Duke Ellington as "tea dansant music" with no jazz content whatever.”’
Duke Ellington—total sell-out!
coelacanth∅:
kind of a self-righteous snob.
but we may not be thinking of the same person!

but i bought a spin-clean just 3 years ago and i wish i'd bought one decades ago!
i think it's excellent, for the price, and ease of use.
i still use the discwasher right before every play.
coelacanth∅:
DJ Peter:
the spin-clean doesn't seem to reach the innermost track (if there's a small run-out groove)?
