Dogs and cats living together type mania. Weekly vinyl finds. CDs and tapes nobody else wanted. Bandcamp wormholes. Friends bands. Strong NYC/NJ deep cuts. Cloudy nostalgia. Pre pubescent punk meets a mid life punch in the faith.

May 21, 2025: MTA TONY TAKES OVER!!!
(mta) Tony may indeed be WFMU’s “longest listener,” listening continuously since FM Radio Pioneer Vin Scelsa aired the complete “Rotary Connection” Lp in Nov. of 1967, when Tony was only a boy of 14. Something about Tony allowed him to immediately recognize the greatness and importance of this newly developing style of radio Vin called, "free-form,” airing without commercial interruption.
58 years later, Tony still listens, albeit without an antenna strung through city tree limbs, now keeping different fmu streams playing simultaneously in different areas of his Manhattanville apartment.
Now 72, most folks think Tony isn’t a day past 50 with his youthful appearance, infectious smile, radiant outlook, and spry agility, which he claims is all because he has fmu’s music flowing through his veins instead of mere blood. His golden-dyed hair doesn’t hurt.
As a NYC Transit professional, now retired, the lives of hundreds of New Yorkers were in his hands daily and after a successful 27 year career, it’s time Tony reaps the rewards of his long and event-filled life, winning this show here tonight where each and every listener can bury themselves in the backseat and enjoy a reminiscent overview of (mta) Tony’s life, the recordings he’s made of friends and family, as well as some of Tony’s own favorite songs, many of which haven’t ever been entered into the fmu database before.
So sit back, bone up, grab a beer or bottle of wine, and participate on the chat board during this special once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Each track will have a special dedication to someone so follow along on the Playlist @WFMU.org to see which tracks Tony is dedicating specially to you.
