I love this tribute album. I didn’t think anyone else heard it. This is the best cut too. Murray is quoted in the notes as saying that he had never heard a pianist play with such strength until he played with Tyner (quoting from memory… no doubt with perfect accuracy!).

there's some good, intimate Murray/El'Zabar live footage on YouTube in a Bay Area (I think) bookstore.

I've never seen Oliver Lake play live, but I did interview him on Zoom for We Jazz Magazine. In the latest issue:

Dean:

Murray attended Berkeley High School, where my daughter is headed next school year. During the tour of the campus, we were informed about several important BHS artists, some of whom are depicted in murals on campus, among them, Joshua Redman, but not David. However, when I mentioned David, the tour guide fully acknowledged his connection.

you live in Berkeley? I studied French at the University in college summer 1992. I lived in the international students dorm. Wonderful times.

I work across the street from International House, a marvelous space on (actually, off) campus.
