supposedly the weird flavour that is "banana flavor" in candies and such, and doesn't seem much like bananas, much more closely resembles the original bananas most people ate, before they were engineered to grow faster, hardier and bigger.

The proper way to peel a banana: Hold it by the stem (nice handle) then peel from the brown end. This is how monkeys do it.

Also, bananas contain isoamyl acetate, which is also found in "bubblegum"-flavored bubblegum (think Bazooka Joe) and wheat beers (Hoegaarden, famously).
