A SoCal library heard an earful from its constituency some years ago when they purchased super-fine furniture for their renovation. But generally, libraries inspire interaction, cross-pollination, exploration... Two days ago I was visited by two legal scholars from Ukraine seeking assistance with their research. They came bearing gifts: candy, books, a lovely lapel pin of the Ukraine flag. Is there anything better than connecting to folks like them? It's easy to complain about working with "the public," and believe me I've done my share, but I love learning about the professional and personal ambitions of folks like those scholars.

A SoCal library heard an earful from its constituency some years ago when they purchased super-fine furniture for their renovation. But generally, libraries inspire interaction, cross-pollination, exploration... Two days ago I was visited by two legal scholars from Ukraine seeking assistance with their research. They came bearing gifts: candy, books, a lovely lapel pin of the Ukraine flag. Is there anything better than connecting to folks like them? It's easy to complain about working with "the public," and believe me I've done my share, but I love learning about the professional and personal ambitions of folks like those scholars.
