We had an HVAC problem here in the house in New Orleans when it first got hotter (95-98), maybe a month ago now. System kept turning off. Thought it was the thermostat battery dying. Replaced it. Nope. Turned out the reservoir that holds the water that the system pulls out of the air (a lot, when it's so humid) was full, which turns the system off to prevent overflow. HVAC guy snaked the drain running from the reservoir about ten feet over to the sewage line in the upstairs bath. But unbeknownst to him and us, that opened a seam in the piping right where the reservoir water goes into the sewage drain. About 10 days later we started seeing water that was leaking down from upstairs ponding outside a downstairs longterm storage closet that we'd had no reason to look into. They came and fixed the leak at the seam, but in the two weeks since then we've had to completely empty the closet (it was jammed full) and then scrub and rescrub the walls and floors in the 13-feet-tall 2-level closet. Tons black mold. We're still using bleach spray to work on the upper shalf, 7 feet up. Fun with a/c systems.
