this is great. i like a nice fill-in on FMU, esp when it involves two dj’s whose programming you know well. you often get to hear another side of the filling dj, as they are keeping the absent dj’s audience/vibe in mind. or at least that’s how i hear it. thanks, Kim; feel better, Michael

I think the economic model that drives commercial radio is quite different today; peak-earning happens in a more youthful audience, and the broadcaster follows the money. Plus the broadcaster is increasingly a 'narrowcaster' due to the atomization of the audience in micro-cultures, and most of the audience reach is through Instagram and Meta and such. In a way, radio is vestigial radiation like something left over from the Big Bang. Plus, music's role in this culture or cultures is radically different to what it was in the 1960s or 70s, when it was quasi-religious. Music had deep meaning for a wider swath of people....now it's more important to emulate botox-altered influencers that offer some kind of conception of success thru an appearance of having massive financial assets

Sometimes I listen to an Irish radio show followed by a polka show on a local AM radio station. Most of the time, the station's programming is in Polish. Maybe it has changed to Spanish.
For my morning commute, I listen to an AM station that reports traffic every 10 minutes. Their news programming is straight CBS news. (NOT CBN)

Not all DJs try to occupy the same space as the DJ they cover for, some do, some do their regular show; both versions can work.
Kim's doing a show that Hinks and Dinks, but is still VERY Greasy, a very neat trick!

True and it's required or expected, but listeners expect a certain vibe... It's just how I was trained and I think, it has made me a better radio jock over the last 25 years

Kim, I'm very much enjoying having the show on ambiently as I go about my Friday afternoon… making this both a normal and an extra-special Hinky Dinky sesh for me.

One reason I'm not hitting the town (aside from being on alte kocker-old fart-and not able to burn it on both ends, is that the wonderful airlines got us here Tuesday night, but we don't get our luggage until tomorrow. The animals don't mind me, but not sure about people coming near me at this point...
