Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:05pm
Austin Rich:

This is one of a series of Candy Matson episodes, set during the holidays. With so many shows in the run completely missing, it's actually sort of unusual to have the holiday episodes be the ones that survived. (There are a lot of other shows where the holiday shows are the ones missing.) My theory is that someone pulled the holiday shows to air again, around the holidays... and were thus in circulation. I think there are four, total. So... it's Christmas in the Summer on Dimestore Radio Theater!

The comments of how complex parking is in SF are in nearly every episode Candy goes for a drive. Apparently entirely true, even?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
Austin Rich:

"Rocky Jordan" was a show that was, originally, referred to as, "A Man Named Jordan." It's a sort of "Casablanca" knock-off radio show, which I might run on this program, someday.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:12pm

(And yes, Rocky Jordan was on a different network. Apparently Candy is aware of the fact she's a character on a radio show, too.)

It makes me wonder who was cutting corners on making the show. I know that Bogart and Bacall were, in many ways, just showing up to do the dialog, making suggestions about what they thought their characters would be like. But I think the SFX and music was all assembled by the people who were working at Santana Productions, which was owned by Bogart... but who didn't really have much to do with, in terms of operation, or who did what. Clearly, someone didn't pay too much attention to this show, in certain ways.

Hmmmm. Good Question! The late 40's Chandu is a remake of a 30's radio show (same premise, but older). And Mandrake was also a 30's magician, who was on both radio and in comics. So... Chandu could be a Mandrake knock off, or the other way around!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:36pm

I think, visually, Chandu was supposed to look like a "far east magician." (Turban, cape, etc.) Certainly an insensitive trope now; Chandu is, canonically, an American who studied to become a magician. The fact he adopts a turban is... problematic?
