As for the cartridge, it's probably some kind of Shure. I have made a lot of mistakes with my equipment. I got an overpriced Dual belt drive which is so resonant that you can't walk around it, which came with a AT cartridge which was very deficient in the high end, so I got a Grado, which is flatter, but it produces a hum which you can't get rid of.
