Joe McGasco was also totally cool about it because it was a cobbled together set of individual pledges to many different shows.

Bruce Johnston played bass on most of the Party! album, and his buddy Terry Melcher was there with him usually playing tambourine. They cut the songs absolutely live with all those guys, then they brought in the wives and girlfriends and assorted others to clap along and make party sounds as overdubs. Hal Blaine was there too, on percussion, but he had to catch a flight and had to bail. Hence, "Hal and his famous ashtrays" heard on Barbara Ann

Cake has so, so many good albums.

Unfortunately they do not do a good live show.

I liked them so much I gave them three tries to get it right and they never did.

However, by the time I was seeing them it was already after Comfort Eagle so perhaps they were just out of energy and over it since they started long before that?

Add some Hoople covers and they could be the Major Young Dudes.

One of the best Steely Dan tribute bands I've seen on YouTube was a group of teenagers in one of those School Of Rock programs who covered Bodhisattva and the one guitarist absolutely nailed Denny Dias' bebop solo. Very impressive for a group of teenagers to pull that one off. And no, the guy wasn't wearing denim overalls like the real Denny Dias

This is innaresting intel, db. They're playing Boston 7/18 and it's been on my radar. Never been to see 'em. You know what was said above about buying the record while you can. I'm thinking the same way about shows these days. It'd be disappointing if they weren't good.
