*rides into the Club on a mule, dressed as the Man with No Name, hitches up at the bar. looks gimlet-eyed at a patron nearby*

"I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughing. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it."

Actually, there's an interesting backstory involving Naim and Linn, two UK companies that produce high-end gear. I don't know the details, but it seems for some years they weren't so much competitors as complements.

From what I recall, they were sort of symbiotic for a while-Linn did turntables and things that go on a turntable, Naim did the electronics (preamp, amp). Dealers often played them together, as a musical pairing. Then Linn had the temerity to start making and selling those electronics, cooperation went south after that...

Ok, who ordered the Premature Exit?*

According to Stork Club lore, this comforting little number was created by bouncer -- excuse me, Maitre d'Egress -- Bobby "Brinks" Brancusi after a terse exchange with a namelessly inebriated gentleman and his long-suffering mule. When the former was asked to leave, the mule politely left the bar, but his master refused, leaving Brinks no choice but to give him the old heave-ho. The patron weighing well under 300lbs, Brinks was able to launch him from mid-bar, from where he banked off the host station, caromed through the double doors (briefly installed for that oater look so pleasing to the 1937 eye), and landed ass-backwards upon the saddle of his mule, who, in truth, had been ass-forwards the whole time. Untroubled by the ejection, Brinks, an animal lover from the age of seven, when he ran away to the Bronx Zoo and spent six months living with the troop of chimpanzees who taught him his rather oral grooming habits, felt for a mule who had been so decent about leaving, and had to go through his days saddled with such a sot. Seeking to provide the poor animal with some recompense, he juiced a bunch of carrots with his bare hands, shook them together with some Glen Passaic, and poured them into an ice bucket, which he hung about the grateful beast's ears, to ease him on his way home. It's been a standard, if rarely served, drink at the Stork ever since.

2oz Glen Passaic per 100lbs body weight
juice of 2 carrots per 2oz Glen Passaic, preferably hand-squeezed, but we're only human
ice bucket

In ice bucket, stir together carrot juice and Glen Passaic until pulp dissolves. Hang about head of unruly patron's companion on leaving the bar.
