Siriusly - I was just reading a Post by Kurt Gottschalk (sp?) about being @ WKCR & the difference between there & FMU. He observes that FMU is obvsly very Personality driven. I've thot of it here as one address with many rooms (Programs ~ DJs) each with a different Party in it. A Rent Party, as it happens - being a NonCommercial Station. It's all one Building, but each Party is distinct. I love FMU as much as any Culture & Media source ever in my life (maybe more). But I'm not Welcome or Comfortable in every Room &/or Party in the Building. While in many I'm quite @ Home.
Is how I see / think of it.
I think my ...'interpersonal chemistry' with Ken Freedman happens to be - not the most naturally harmonious, in fact. Yet, I am grateful for him making all the possible ...& I wouldn't want his job. (Would in fact be beyond hopeless @ it.)
Fwiw (maybe nothing).
It takes all kinds I think it comes down to - & some of them are here @ the FreeForm Station of the Nation (in fact the World).

In this internet age - & in my old age trying to be a 'good Buddhist' & such ...I have the ideal of putting energy into what I'm For rather then what I'm Against. As a Scorpio & such tho - I often fail & fall back on the instinct to express myself forcefully for effect - & all this. (Perhaps somewhat like JohnLennon trying to deprogram himself from emotionally being a smart sensitive kid in the Liverpool streets in defense~offense mode - decades after the fact.)
Just Change the Channel, in other words. Don't be a Troll.

People absolutely adore Blondie - but I've always had this vague ambivalence. If they hadn't started associated with Punk (which they siginificantly were) I wonder if I'd accept them more for what they are. Cause track by track I'm like - yeah that's good ...& that's good...

I have no doubt that I come off as a troll from time to time, but its usually as an accidental troll. So many different kinds of people and they all have baggage that we can't possibly anticipate 100%. Occasional troll-like behavior is just part of human existence. At least it is in this human's existence.

My problem - even more years ago notably early on - has been being *overly* enthusiastic. It took some adjusting to realize that can be the same as Trolling - when the intent is opposite ! Just quantity over quality in participation. & obvsly I 'talk' too much.

I'd be pretty shocked to find anyone ever experienced you that way, Phillippe.

I also like to think of the FM station and alternate streams as buttons on the car radio in a more perfect world, where whichever big chunky one you depress brings you something interesting and human and given in the spirit of exploration rather than exploitation. It's vanishingly rare.

Plus, car radios with big chunky buttons were cool.

- cause @ its root - Trolling is a Social thing. Like the angry drunk @ the bar - it's never 'about' what its 'about'. It's about attention & interaction.
Quite simply - it's not always about You, pal.
Sort of thing we negotiate without saying out loud most of the time maybe.

I cant believe that I found out, as a fully grown adult, that you could program those clunky car radio buttons--why didn't my dad ever figure that out?? I could not understand what the purpose of those buttons were, since they never landed on a radio station in our old family car, heh.

Well, until it isn't. Trolling has been heavily monetized and industrialized. The entire alt-right superstructure relies on troll farms, basically, to spread enough noise and disinformation that the capitalists can get on about their business without interruption. Now, you see less of that here, of course (not because of any inherent political bent of the place but because the stakes are so low, honestly -- no money, mainly older weirdos). Last year for a while there was a commenter who I was partly convinced might be several people just following a fairly typical alt-right pattern to try to ingratiate, integrate, and disrupt, but they seem to have retreated again.
