I was actually playing my autoharp with the "radio" turned down, grr. You already had a hammered dulcimer to day. But beware: Washington Phillips is not playing a Dolceola. In 2016, journalist Michael Corcoran discovered a 1907 newspaper article which reported that Phillips' name for his instrument was a "manzarene", and further described it as "a box about 2×3 feet, 6 inches deep, [on] which he has strung violin strings, something on the order of an autoharp. . . . The Quietus site has an article on the new Frost and Fire reissue by the Watersons. Bright Phoebus gets a notable mention; it's been OOP for awhile and, hopefully, a reissue is forthcoming. BERT JANSCH: "She was a brilliant singer – really brilliant, very natural. We clicked straight away. She was pretty wild when I knew her, but then, I was even wilder! She has calmed down quite a lot. She does sing at home for her own pleasure and her voice sounds the same to me. I think any singer would feel guilty about not using that talent, but if you haven’t done it in a while, it can be hard." recordcollectormag.com...
