Completely balanced in its elements. & it just dawned on me - that's kind of what I've said about 'Forever Changes' as contender for Best Album Ever. As if that were L.A. Tropicália. The mind boggles over how an obvious talent (of some sort) can descend from the heights to he lowest circle of maudlin crap.

	9:37pm Dean: I believe "performative" derives from J. L. Austin's How to Do Things With Words, transcriptions of lectures he gave about "speech acts." Juidith Butler decided at some point to appropriate the term to suit her agenda. I have a lot of problems with Austin (and, after him, Searle). But somehow it now means nothing at all related to Austin's (perhaps mistaken) characterization. Virtuosity is absolutely artistry. Mere flexing of muscles, not so much.
