Congregations divided up the soprano, alto, tenor, and bass singers in groups forming a square with the conductor at the center. This is called the "hollow square." Teaching the Ukrainian kids has been great. (Thanks, Carol, too for asking!) From initial chaos to team-building and learning with purpose and fun. Well-received by the new colleagues and principal. The school is right at the river Neckar so we sometimes sneak out and do our conversations along a river stroll. Or I take them for a cocoa but they do the orders in German. :-)

I've set my clock back just a hour ago, so here's a poem about time.

by Emily Dickinson
'T was later when the summer went
Than when the cricket came,
And yet we knew that gentle clock
Meant nought but going home.

'T was sooner when the cricket went
Than when the winter came,
Yet that pathetic pendulum
Keeps esoteric time.

The Peace of Wild Things
by Wendell Berry

Listen
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

String instruments are so lovely. They are us - warm and Analog. Its only audio post manufacture that makes them sound different.

Had access to a circa ’88 Marshall “Small-Medium size” amp. There was a sound it made when you lifted it up a bit and hit it on a hard floor. It’s that sound…in early 80 electronically music some bands really made it noticeable.Ω Maybe it was a Banjo. I often found that sounds like that are sort of reverb from what is in place.to be interesting when you shake it.

Artists shape what reverb we connect with/like.

from the linked article "Here are some things to look for. The honky kind of icepick thing is somewhere around 2.5K or 3. The real high brittleness is around 6K. The woofy low end thing that sounds like your banjo is hooked up to an industrial shop vac tends to be around 200 or multiples of that 400 etc."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45am
StringOFperils:

Right, EQ (audio engineering) can be a challenge...I have experienced the 'icepick' at very poorly mixed (poorly heard by the board person) shows. The rooms (or outdoor venues) are a big problem to overcome. As is loud volume (vs clarity)

Carol, again my deepest respect for your musical picks and deejaying. What an exploration, what a journey. As a theatre maker, I would also say that I recognize three dramaturgic acts in your three parts. I love the way you are putting the tracks together and give it all an acting line, a plot for the ears. I miss it all when I cannot be around.
