They were optimistic that he might be alive, but were told he was dead. In 30-some odd episodes of adventure, they have learned that it is more likely that he is alive... but they still don't know for sure. Chandu moves very slowly.

And since a lot of the people that worked in radio in these days were WWII vets, I suspect enough of them were leaving their influence on sci-fi in that way.

They were optimistic that he might be alive, but were told he was dead. In 30-some odd episodes of adventure, they have learned that it is more likely that he is alive... but they still don't know for sure. Chandu moves very slowly.

And since a lot of the people that worked in radio in these days were WWII vets, I suspect enough of them were leaving their influence on sci-fi in that way.

I wonder if they design real NASA crafts to "sound" like subs, even though there's no practical reason for it to sound that way.
