No, clarke, I have a canoe trip to lead. Gotta take off for that in half an hour or so.

Hi Todd
Proud to tune in - turn on & drop in for P.P. Arnold today!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

P.P. Arnold - so kewl & so great.
Watching SmallFaces videos - love how they put her side-by-side with Marriott or even upfront - in what I think had to be a still fairly segregated 1960s !...
Also - any friend of Jimi Hendrix has my attention. :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Chili MacPagoda:

I gotta find the footage to this TNT performance.

I was watching the EPIX/BBC Rolling Stones episode on Mick Jagger Ep. 1
P.P. laughed about how Mick would study the girls dance moves in his early years.
Avatar 3:13pm Fredericks:

I thought Otis Redding's Live in Europe was a great Soul/R&B record. I hadn't heard Ike, Tina and P.P. live. Wow.

P.P. Arnold / Patrica Ann Cole wow, Todd Thank you!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Candy-O'67:

hey clarke!
  3:14pm P-90:

Didn’t P.P. tell Sheila B. that Mick Jagger was romantically pursuing her with single-minded focus, but then she figured out he was also pursuing every young female American negro singer who came to London in those days with the same single-minded focus…?
Avatar 3:14pm Fredericks:

I hope to hear Steve Marriott today.
  3:14pm clarke:

howdy!! how's thangs in A-town??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Prefer Ike & Tina together ...tho it's weird now hearing all that early 1960s material clearly written by Men that Women had to sing all the time...
Avatar 3:16pm Fredericks:

There we go>>>>>>> Hello Todd Oh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Chili MacPagoda:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Did TheSmallFaces ever put a foot wrong creatively ?
  3:17pm P-90:

@Ciggy: Tina Turner always proudly claims credit for teaching Mick the Pony. Learning those moves from the American girls was a not-insignificant part of developing his act.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

James Brown too ? But yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Chili MacPagoda:

The intro to Tin Soldier…talk about a boss groover, damn.

The Stones - to their credit - were generally on a mission to acknowledge Black Culture too - much more than some other UK &/or White Acts who were happy to take the writing royalties ...what have you. TheBeatles were always explicit in doing this too, actually. Tho they were musical magpies just as much as people 'stole' from them...

@elkeno: I did discover both Slade and Iggy and The Stooges on WNEW though neither was exactly in heavy rotation...

Yeah, heavy Move! The interview is fantastic Todd.

movies Frank??
Avatar 5:04pm Fredericks:

This Move song sounds like if the Small Faces joined up with Humble Pie.

I think that Nazz cat can like turn loaves into fishes or something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm McGroovey:

@Fredericks Maybe. When I'm driving the bus, I often forget to stop at bus stops, or a randomly change the destination.

These Move drums sound very good.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Frank In Queens:

@clarke, not much again this week. Just watched a few Hal Hartley shorts. Otherwise, it was the Saul finale on Monday and that's about it.
Avatar 5:08pm Creature Boy:

Ziggy was the Nazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm McGroovey:

I never knew PP did backups on this Move track. The Move are in my top-10 faves. The Move did backups for Hendrix. Some other nerd will remember which record that was.
Swag For Life Member 5:09pm biomurph:

Great interview! Super open conversation and so relaxed. Really got a good feeling for P.P.s energy and style. You made my afternoon!

@Frank - the Saul -- omgosh - i'm done, too. seems like there was nothing to look fwd to, after that!!

Sha Na Na on shrooms? Todd, can you help us out a bit here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm McGroovey:

I've never heard this PP/Primal Scream song. I've never actually listen to Primal Scream at all, actually. In the nineties I figured they were just another British band I wouldn't like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm steveo:

Audio is loud and clear and joyful on 91.1
  5:17pm Mr C:

Terrific interview, retrospective Todd. Haven't heard this Scream song since they recorded it..
  5:18pm P-90:

@Fredericks: I was referring to the a capella part in the Move song

By “Sha Na Na on shrooms” I just meant “a 50’s doo-wop style vocal section with a halo of 60’s psychedelic vibe”

PP's voice loud and clear. Boomer TOPT, OTOH, apparently on his Jitterbug phone

Know anywhere I can find "Surviving Desire"?
  5:28pm PB:

McGroovey - do yourself a huge favor and listen to Screamedelica by Primal Scream. You’ll thank me later, I guarantee it. It’s genius and still sounds as fresh today as it did when it was released in the early 90s.
Avatar 5:28pm Christina Ginger:

Just got home, and I’m so glad I get to hear a little of P.P. I love her!

@Dave Hal has recently released a series of box sets that group all of his movies together in various sets (except for No Such Thing because he doesn't own the rights). Not sure about any streaming services, but you can buy the Surviving Desire here: www.halhartley.com...

I think I read that James Urbaniak, who played Simon Grim, is from Old Bridge.
The soundman Gentleman Jim (ex-Asbury Lanes, now House of Independents) told me he worked as a teen with Urbaniak in a summer production of "1776" at the Church of the Precious Blood in Jim's hometown Monmouth Beach.
