Hi there myron!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm

NYC area listeners may remember when WPIX-FM went kind of New Wave, '79-80 or so. Lou Reed was a guest on an show (maybe Jane Hamburger's?) and played "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'" and cited the guitar solo as "a very Lou Reed solo."

@LesleyK - we must bring up this important question next time we see Mr. Zaremba!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm
LesleyK:

Absolutely!
  2:35pm
Gerry from Miami:

I know this show is a repeat, but we should still honor the passing of the great songwriter, Lamont Dozier. Maybe play a couple of his Motown classics next time you are doing a 100% live show.
Avatar 2:35pm
Jon Graboff:

Pretty hip to pick up on this song so early. Way before Cooder introduced it to us youngsters!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
Dennis Diken:

@Jon Graboff - don't know his version? @Gerry from Miami - I probably will!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm

@Jon: exactly, Ry was my intro to that one as well. I saw Mavis late last year and she was fabulous!

Wow. This Tokens tune is pretty cool. Incredibly pitchy but that's transcended pretty nicely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm
Dennis Diken:

@Jon Graboff - a fine Goffin-King chestnut t'boot! I dig pitchy vocals if they're done right!
  3:01pm
Gerry from Miami:

The Tokens will forever be known as rhe band that popularized "The Lion Sleeps Tonight(Wimoweh)". Give them kudos for that one!

  3:07pm

Never realized how much I liked Sergio Mendes and his Brazilian buddies. They sound even better in Portuguese.
  3:09pm

DENNY, guess I will have to revisit the Tokens catalog on your recommendation.

Who is The Answer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Dan from Peekskill:

I was lucky enough to see Tony Bennett in San Francisco back in 1999 (at an annual meeting of the Society of Actuaries!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gaylord Fields - thanks for making it available - it's only one of my favorite pieces of music of all time! and, can you "answer" Woo's question?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Woo: It's a studio concoction led by Mitch Leigh, who wrote the music for Man of La Mancha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
Eric R:

I see I missed the Tokens. I know that song from the Rockin' Berries version. It's pretty good!
  3:13pm
Gerry from Miami:

Tony from Astoria, Queens. Still going well into his 90s. And not afraid to mix it up with more contemporary musicians like Lady Gaga and Elvis Costello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Woo:

Thanks Gaylord!
  3:16pm
Gerry from Miami:

Did the Tokens cash in on the George Harrison plagiarism decision over "He's So Fine"/"My Sweet Lord"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Woo:

Tony B's farewell show with Gaga was stunning. He gave it everything which wasn't easy for him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gerry from Miami - yes, the Tokens did ok on the "My Sweet Lord" deal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Dennis Diken:

@Eric R - yes, it is! my fave is the Tokens version - but The Rockin' Berries as well as The Ivy League took alot from The Tokens style!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
Eric R:

what was the connection between the Tokens and He's So Fine?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
Dennis Diken:

@Dan from Peekskill - yes, Bennett was a delight to behold in person!

@Jon Graboff - you are not wrong!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm

I think Jeff Craig miscounted: Live at BuDOCKan is CT's 4th album. Hard to believe he got something wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
Eric R:

Joan Baez before Johnny Burnette, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Dan from Peekskill:

Tony Bennett was hired to perform at the 50th Anniversary of the Society of Actuaries. I ended up sitting right near him and the band, unfortunately near some actuarial recruiters, but it was a joy. And much more appropriate than back when I worked for MONY (Mutual of New York) and the senior management wanted to hire Billy Idol for their meeting of general agents. The CEO had to be talked out of that one. However history tells us that Tommy James was looking out of his hotel window at the sign of this now defunct insurance company when he wrote his hit song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
Dennis Diken:

@myron feld - really?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
Dennis Diken:

speaking of myron feld - TAKE NOTE 'YON DENIZENS' - MR. FELD WILL BE FILLING IN HERE IN 'THE DEN' NEXT WEDNESDAY 8/17 - IT WILL BE A GASSER! DON'T MISS IT! YEAH!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Dan from Peekskill:

@myron feld - There's lots wrong at the the R&R HoF. I put the continuing absence of Warren Zevon at the top of the list, especially when Linda Ronstadt got in singing his songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
myron feld:

@Dan: I don't think Jeff Craig of LP Report is associated with the RRHOF. But given his accuracy, perhaps he should be! The whole thing is silly. But the attached museum has some cool stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
Dan from Peekskill:

I realize my comment on the HOF was aimed @Jon Graboff. Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
Dennis Diken:

indeed, the museum at the RnRHOF is INCREDIBLE! I saw The McCoys iconic bass drum head, Denny Wilson's early 60s Gretsch kit and Handsome Dick Manitoba's jacket as seen on Go Girl Crazy!
  3:37pm
Nezrok:

Well, at least I'll catch the last set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Dan from Peekskill:

And I loved the HoF. I was actually quite surprised how moved I was when I visited there, expecting a superficial display of celebrity memorabilia, but finding substantial meaning. Quite a place. My complaint is mostly with some of the inductees, both those who are included and those who have been ignored.
