In the past 10 days the children went from wildly flapping their wings while still in the nest to leaving the nest for a flight or five. The parents left the nest for good two days ago while the kids still return to it, waiting for a meal. So it goes.

	🛎 ♥ 2:16pm Sem: Ha, Chris. As it turns out this weekend is the annual mackerel derby which means the new ospreys will have a chance to fill up on fish before they leave for the South.

	🛎 ♥ 2:18pm Sem: I should say that the return of the mackerel is an annual event. Indigenous folk have called this tidal estuary "place of bountiful fish" for thousands of years.

	🛎 ♥ 2:20pm Phillippe: @sem those little osprey sound like my adult kids! The osprey nests here are all empty, though there are some adults that fly over about a dozen times a day. My next door neighbor had some barn swallows under the pier and that nest emptied out last week. Just transient waterfowl now for the most part now. A once-a-day visit from a kingfisher, snowy egret, blue heron, green heron, canada geese, and some mallards. Makes me sad how fast this summer is going.

In the past 10 days the children went from wildly flapping their wings while still in the nest to leaving the nest for a flight or five. The parents left the nest for good two days ago while the kids still return to it, waiting for a meal. So it goes.

My next door neighbor had some barn swallows under the pier and that nest emptied out last week. Just transient waterfowl now for the most part now. A once-a-day visit from a kingfisher, snowy egret, blue heron, green heron, canada geese, and some mallards. Makes me sad how fast this summer is going.
