Hey Austin! Still putting the show together.

Yeah, I'm putting on the last minute touches, waiting for Live DJs to come back on the stream.

@ WR - Now I think I should rename the show.

John R.:

Greg have you heard and/or played any of the Organist Lenny Dee’s music? I was in a thrift store last week and saw a very pristine copy of one of his albums titled “ Dee- Most”
Avatar 5:06pm
spacebrother:

I have a Lenny Dee album, and I've actually played some songs of his.

Hi WR !

I have an interview with ? himself, via the phone, that aired on my show in 2007. One of my guests happened to be friendly with him, and just offering to call and interview him on my show. It was VERY cool.

Ah, 96 Lagrimas. First time to hear this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm

Here's a link. There's two bands, a short phoner, and we're plugging a "Nuggets" themed show that was happening back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
Austin Rich:

It was a HUGE deal to me, at the time.

Mr Fab:

Howdy, Spacebrother. That was amazing. as a kid, I was obsessed with “96 Tears.”

? is Rudy Martinez, which is a totally music name.

Thanks Austin!!
Avatar 5:09pm

"Namida" is "tear" in Japanese.
Avatar 5:11pm
spacebrother:

@ Fab - It's an almost alien song.

Actually, is IS an alien song. Beamed at us from the planet of the Mysterians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm
Austin Rich:

What's not to love about "96 Tears"? It's the weirdest pop song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm
Austin Rich:

I have to say, that "You Don't Have To Be A Baby To Cry" song was new to me, but hot damn! That's already a classic for me.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
WR:

Fond memory of day when let out of High School class early, going to diner we heard was The Spot for rival high school and filling the juke box to play 96 Tears a dozen times in a row.
Avatar 5:14pm
spacebrother:

@ Austin - Thanks! The reverb/ echo on the Caravelles version was so over the top, I had to play it.
Avatar 5:16pm
spacebrother:

@ WR - This is something that was needed very badly and only you knew it. We used to do that with "Macho Man." Really bothered people for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm
Austin Rich:

Ha! We used to do that a lot, when I lived in PDX. We would DOMINATE the jukebox, and when they introduced those boxes where you could pay extra to skip a song, we took advantage of it, for sure. While I do feel guilty now, usually the drek those boxes play on a given night is almost unforgivable, so I don't feel TOO band. Usually our picks had a good sense of humor to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
Austin Rich:

This P-Model is pretty cool, too! And completely new to me. Thanks!
Avatar 5:21pm
Mr Fab:

first time Spacebrother invited me to his old show to guest DJ (well before Sheena's) I brought this P-Model album, thinking there's no way he would know it. he was like, P-Model! Love those guys!
*sad trumpet*
Avatar 5:22pm

@ Fab - But you HAD one and I didn't!
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 5:22pm
WR:

P-Model completely new to me too.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 5:30pm
WR:

Not that I "know" or have already heard every tune on WFMU, but when there is an artist I like with major number of releases, like P-Model, it is a good surprise worth noting when hearing for the first time.
Avatar 5:30pm
spacebrother:

There is a documentary about Rhodes called "The One Man Beatles." His voice really sounds like a mashup of John, Paul, and George.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm
Austin Rich:

I didn't even think about that, spacebrother, but you are totally right! Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Austin Rich:

I'm with you, WR: I recognize a FRACTION of the stuff my fellow DJs play, and I used to think I was well-read, musically. But I have a niche as much as anyone else. I do get excited when I find new stuff, too. Guess I haven't gotten too cynical as I approach 50.
  5:33pm
John R.:

SBG: He reminds little Harry Nilsson as well.
Avatar 5:33pm
spacebrother:

I am continually amazed by what the other DJs play.
Avatar 5:34pm
spacebrother:

@ John R. - Totally!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
Austin Rich:

I think I fell more on the Nilsson side of the pop music spectrum, from that early 70's period of rock. Nilsson also sort of sounded like he was from another planet, too.
Avatar 5:35pm
spacebrother:

@ Austin - I am so used to Nilsson that I never thought about that, but you're right.

Of course: spacebrother plays music that doesn't come from this planet.

Like Nervous Norvous!
