My dad's Maxwell Bodenheim story was from his days in the Bohemian Village as a waiter and scenester. Bodenheim would go around trying to trade poems for drinks, on the bum, wearing a ratty overcoat all through the winter. My dad was drinking in I think the White Horse but it might have been Kettle, and Dylan Thomas was there, and Bodenheim comes in from the sleet and tries to sell a poem for a drink to Thomas, who doesn't say a word but reaches into a pocket, takes out his handkerchief, and reaches out to wipe Bodenheim's nose.

That's the story.
