prof fuzz: luckily o'er here, it's been raining 1"+ /day. usually w/in a span of an hour or two. Keeps the temp down.... (I might lose power, as there's another storm parked above).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm prof.fuzz:

damn, NGH. we could use some of that rain up here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm chresti:

Hi Nico and Destroit!
Avatar 9:22pm HyperDose:

Mister Tom Dash 😍
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm northguineahills:

@prof.fuzz: It's like that July-August, if it doesn't rain, it's 98F/37C or more... (The hottest temp I've seen here is 103F/39C, I don't remember the heat index...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm prof.fuzz:

@NGH: where are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm northguineahills:

@Prof fuzz: orlando
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm luka:

my goodness this track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm coelacanth∅:

103f isn't hotter than upstate ny sometimes gets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm coelacanth∅:

i would've guessed orlando to get hotter than that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm prof.fuzz:

several years ago, we had 99 days in a row of 100+ temps, only to get an afternoon thunderstorm keep the temps sub-100 on day 100, breaking the streak. then we had a couple more weeks or so of 100+. brutal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm prof.fuzz:

@NGH: oh, yeah. i remember those afternoon thunderstorms from when we lived in florida when I was a kid. hot day. afternoon downpour. then heated up again until sundown. fun times. i remember the dramatic lightning shows the most. flash boom!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm northguineahills:

when you have 60% relative humidity, a temp of 103F has a heat index approaching 150F/66C. Usually, when It gets above 100F, the air dries to about 40% relative humidity.
  9:32pm Barefootin’ 🌈along🌈:

Everybody’s got the right to live <3

Sounding good Tom Dash Radio!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm ultradamno:

Not silent but definitely not too loud
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm northguineahills:

nighttime storms are the best, it REALLY cools things down (74F/24C)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm coelacanth∅:

damn, p fuzz. a few years ago up here we had 6 weeks of 95->100ºf . that was extraordinary.
but for the past 3-4 years it's been extraordinarily not summer-like. that past 2 years barely ever breaking 90f, which is bullshit. not even getting a summer, as far as i'm concerned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm northguineahills:

*takes notes where coel lives*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm luka:

brilliant
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm coelacanth∅:

ngh i'm getting the feeling you've forgotten the weather of your former residence!
...60% relative humidity would be welcome here, as opposed to the 80 we typically get
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm prof.fuzz:

that streak was about 10 or 12 years back. then we got a few years with a good amount of rain. now we're a couple of years into hotter than normal weather again. add to that our power grid woes here in howdy arabia, and it's fun times all around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm coelacanth∅:

...maybe because orlando has much more wind than here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm ultradamno:

This Mar-Keys cover is unrecognizable
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Stevel:

This is a hell of a set! I need to dig deeper into The Scientists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm ultradamno:

Their earliest stuff is downright punk-pop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm northguineahills:

@coel: when the temperature gets above 100F, more then 60% relative becomes indistinguishable in the heat index, (essentially making such a measurement useless). W/o rain, it's usually 60-80% relative humidity, but w/ temps in the mid 90s. We do get sea breeze effect from both the Gulf and Atlantic... (like the current storm, both ocean breezes our clashing).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm coelacanth∅:

i *did* recognise that "last night", and now wonder if maybe the scientists' version is the only one i've heard. can't think of any other version
  9:51pm Robm:

Nice jams tom
  9:55pm Piper from Toronto:

I LIKE THIS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm northguineahills:

Duncan Park, new to me and digdug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm coelacanth∅:

ngh it seems to me the past few years we have barely gotten days over 90f. still feels hot - like you say...when the humidity's 80% it's uncomfortable. today was beautiful, maybe 83f, but very humid and it was a pleasure to have a stout in an air-conditioned bar.
  10:00pm David Watts:

that was a cool song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm TomDash:

Duncan Park - South African musician...landed in my inbox this week - very cool stuff - ramblerecords.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm TomDash:

summer stoned set
  10:06pm David Watts:

sweet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm TomDash:

@Stevel - The Scientists are great! Frantic Romantic is one of the great power-pop(ish) punk songs ever...then ai few years later until recent reunion they went full-on swamp rock, noise rock, Cramps etc...totally different sound and both great...
Avatar 10:08pm TDK60:

Geez, those food prices are high these days. I about had a faint yesterday at the grocery store.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm coelacanth∅:

a girlfriend from oz turned me onto the scientists in the 90s; then Sue P, wfmu show host who by my estimation never once played anything i didn't like (see archives) called her show "solid gold hell", after the scientists song

... i'm pro-scientists

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Aitch:

saw Scientists support Birthday Party in 1983 I mentioned before
I was 18 and it was terrifying
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm ultradamno:

I saw Big Black set off a whole coil of firecrackers at No Bar, which was basically a small basement. That was legit scary...everyone ended up with black snot at the end of the night from the contained gunpowder cloud...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Stevel:

UD: The shows where I didn't get too close to the stage for photos, because, there were no rules. It was OK having your head on a swivel in the name of rock. Stimulating, even.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Stevel:

Was Big Black as anti-social as Flipper? I have a great respect for that stuff.
  10:44pm pL:

Flipper had soul
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm ultradamno:

Not really. Fireworks aside. I saw them twice and they never really baited the audience like Flipper did, but the sonics were violent. But Albini seemed to like Muncie and No Bar..

Wendy from Manwich and I talked to Will and he admired her jacket, a red white and blue buckskin affair with fringe. She offered to let him try it on and he said that if he did he'd never take it off and then stumbled away. They were all very drunk.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm prof.fuzz:

Flipper were my absolute favorite band when I was in high school (grad 1983), and remain very high on the list to this day. We've covered three Flipper songs on our last two albums, and played halloween sets of fuzzed-up Flipper tunes the past couple of years. forever a huge flipper fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm ultradamno:

There's a part on the tape you can hear Lose offering the mike to some skater kids who had a habit of just yelling incoherently when offered one by the singer. Lose says "idiot, you don't know the words"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Stevel:

Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 11:17pm Will, a Sound Guy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm Aitch:

I can't stand the Dead myself, but in a very roundabout way they brought me to WFMU via Jeff Conklin so I suppose I must thank them in a way.
Not in a listening to them way though.
I'll need to play some Ween after to counteract the poison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm TroyD8:

Love me some China/Rider!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm Aitch:

AC/DC's Let There Be Rock can also be used to quell deadness, but careful with that, strong mojo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm coelacanth∅:

i like the 'dead and i like flipper.
%-wise i suppose flipper is far "ahead" of the dead though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Franco Twinkie:

I saw the Dead ONCE. I saw Ween ONCE. No one has ever asked me if I was a Ween head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm coelacanth∅:

couldn't stop from thinking every time, "Will a sound guy, or won't a sound guy?"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Franco Twinkie:

I actually thrive on the smirking condescension that's aimed at me regarding my assumed uncritical infatuation with The Grateful Dead. But I will say this - for the time and place, they were peerless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm chresti:

No smirking here as far as I can tell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm TomDash:

Franco - I'm with ya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Aitch:

Trouble for us colonials Franco is they strongly represent a sensibility not shared here.
It's very foreign.
I don't dispute that that were staggeringly good at what they do, I just don't wan't that.
Avatar 11:33pm mb:

Hey there TomDash and fam.

I too have seen the Dead once and Ween once
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Franco Twinkie:

Aitch, I'm a native Californian. Along with the dismissal/hatred/jealousy there is a lot of misunderstanding of what we are. The Grateful Dead is the apotheosis of that writ large.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm TomDash:

mb - I have seen The Dead, Ween AND Flipper!
  11:40pm ?:

Never seen the dead or ween
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm McGroovey:

I see lots of talk about Flipper, but no evidence that Flipper has actually been played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Aitch:

I read my Wolfe and my Kesey and my Hunter S Franco, so I can try and understand it from that kind of angle, but as I said, foreign to me.
That's OK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm TomDash:

McGroovey - I've played them MANY times...in fact, back-to-back with The Dead! maybe next week? Still trying to figure out how to end this one!
  11:42pm prof.fuzz:

@mcG: you just have to BELIEVE that FLIPPER has been played…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm McGroovey:

Yeah, I didn't mean that to sound rude, but it did. Sorry about that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm Franco Twinkie:

If Sex bomb was the only song Flipper ever recorded, they still would get honorable mention for outstanding contribution to the culture at large.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm Aitch:

Now to have actually been there on the good gear would have been an entirely different matter..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm TroyD8:

I have seen the Dead, Flipper but sadly not Ween.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm McGroovey:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm McGroovey:

I saw Ween once. I don't remember them very well. I remember enjoying them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm Aitch:

a Burroughs / Dead collab might be interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm McGroovey:

I just got done watching TV with my wife and I was settling in to listen to the radddio, and I saw that the Dead and Flipper were lighting the comment board on fire, but that only the Dead had been played, which made me scratch me head, so I had to read the whole 2h40m of comments to figure it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm chresti:

A Dead off-shoot played at the Greek many years ago. The next morning their bus was in the parking lot at the tennis courts where I work. I had to remind them that there was no smoking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Aitch:

My fave Flipper song (and the first one I heard) was Brainwash. I was listening to WRPI (Troy, NY) one day, and and the DJ played a Fripp or maybe Fripp+Eno record and Brainwash simultaneously, and it was perfect. I already had the Fripp record, so I had to go buy the Sex Bomb 7" immediately.

We're taking a long car trip tomorrow, and now I want to add "Listen Now" to our car listening.

brainwash was the first flipper i heard as well. on wfmu, early 80s. i recorded it onto cassette then, but didn't find out who it was until 1984, when someone else on wfmu (Paul Cavenaugh) played "ever" and i went and bought all the flipper i could find (which wasn't much)

Any playlist can sequence including G.G.Allin, Echo & the Bunnymen & the Dead - & much more - has to have something considerable going on ! ...Tho when the Dead sang like that it sometimes seems they had no monitors... They sure sound pretty on the 'American Beauty' album. Much as they were supposedly not a Studio band whatsoever.

Wikipedia says that Mick Jones of Foreigner is a current member of 801. That's weird, but it also makes sense, given the early association between King Crimson and Foreigner.
