I hope you are well! It sounds like we're both in the "last minute" boat these days.

I love this cover!

Hi Space Brother Greg and Austin!😊
Avatar 5:02pm

Yeah, I still need to record a few shows ahead of time.

Hello there, John!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
Austin Rich:

I keep thinking I'll get ahead of the curve. Then I don't.
Avatar 5:04pm
spacebrother:

@ Austin - Yeah all sorts of great intentions, but carrying them off takes EFFORT! Dammit.

¡Hola! ¡Amigos!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
Austin Rich:

Yeah. I just wish I didn't need to sleep. It's the only wasteful thing I do.
Avatar 5:05pm
spacebrother:

Also, I find that a looming deadline makes the shows better somehow.
Avatar 5:05pm

Hello WR!

I really had fun finding the music for today's show.

Austin Rich:

@Mr. Fab: did we loose Slow Transit on Mondays?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
Austin Rich:

This is pretty dope, @Spacebrother. I'll have to investigate more.
Avatar 5:09pm
spacebrother:

@ Austin, Yes, and Provocative Percussion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
Austin Rich:

I heard about Provacative Percussion. I guess I missed the Slow Transit boat.
Avatar 5:10pm
spacebrother:

A Louie Louie mashup is called for.
Avatar 5:10pm
Mr Fab:

Yes, Otis is taking time off. Tho he’ll still be hanging around.
Lots of summer vacationing DJs now. Tho we also have some new DJs on deck, inc. one that will hopefully be starting next Monday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm
Austin Rich:

Cool! Yeah, summer turnover is pretty normal. I'm surprised I haven't had to get any coverage yet.
Avatar 5:13pm
spacebrother:

A mashup performance. I'd like to find more.
Avatar 5:14pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, I actually tried to make a mashup of these two songs but it can’t be done. They really are two different chords progressions. I got George’s back on this one.
Avatar 5:14pm
Mr Fab:

The band Smash Up Derby specializes in live mashups.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
Austin Rich:

I just watched a bunch of Innes Book of Records, which is sort of the follow-up to the Rutland Weekend TV Show.
Avatar 5:15pm
spacebrother:

@ Fab - I tried years ago with the same results.
Avatar 5:16pm

and thanks for the tip!

John R.:

Thank you Austin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
Austin Rich:

There's a few places on archive.org where you can get the complete Innes Book of Records, with many excellent guest stars and weird moments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
Austin Rich:

Here's a secret for Sheena listeners: S2 E6 of Innes Book of Records features a character that is a pre-cursor to Max Headroom, a radio DJ Robot that malfunctions, stutters, and makes smarmy comments. (And: is clearly an American on UK Radio.) It's worth the time for a couple of the videos, too.
Avatar 5:22pm
spacebrother:

A treasure trove. Thanks, Austin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
Austin Rich:

I have discovered that The Bonzo Dog Band has two Max Headroom connections: Mr. Innes, for creating a "primitive" version on his own show, and then of course Vivian made a film with Steve Roberts, who wrote both the UK and US versions of Max Headroom.

Steve Roberts also lived with The Cleaners From Venus Himself, Martin Newell. The UK is so weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
Austin Rich:

Hmmmmmm. I prefer the Matthew Sabatella version.
Avatar 5:26pm
spacebrother:

This is all news to me!
Avatar 5:26pm
spacebrother:

I do too! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm
Austin Rich:

(I have learned WAY too much about Max Headroom for my other podcast. Did you know the production designer for the US TV show was the same as the one on Blade Runner? So much useless trivia...)
Avatar 5:28pm
spacebrother:

@ Austin - Sounds like my brain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
Austin Rich:

I can hear both of my grandparents cackling over this song. This sounds like the kinds of stuff my grandfather used to play and laugh at.
Avatar 5:29pm
spacebrother:

I was laughing and sitting in wide- mouthed amazement when I first heard this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm

Yipes!😅
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm
Austin Rich:

I mean, I am one of those people who has a lot of Bill Cosby records, and hasn't quite been able to get rid of them yet. Maybe this will inspire me.
Avatar 5:31pm
spacebrother:

I wouldn't get rid of them. Might not play them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm
Austin Rich:

Yeah. I listened to, "Why Is There Air?" over and over as a kid.
Avatar 5:32pm
spacebrother:

I guess I wanted to push a few boundaries today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm
Austin Rich:

And a few others, the names of which escape me now.

I mean, listening to music and comedy is like archeology, and it represents a time and place. A lot of Dimestore Radio Theater is pretty inappropriate, with a modern lens.
  5:33pm
John R.:

As a kid , our family wore out “ I started out as a Child” LP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm
Austin Rich:

That one, John R! Yes, that has some good bits, for sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
Austin Rich:

I will listen to / buy any weird moog album I can find, no questions asked. They are almost all great.
Avatar 5:34pm
spacebrother:

@ Austin - That's why I like it. We need to be reminded what people used to think was normal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
Austin Rich:

@Spacebrother: taps side of nose.

And how quickly people forget!
Avatar 5:34pm
spacebrother:

Meanwhile, I may do a Hajime Tachibana show sometime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm
Austin Rich:

That would be a worthwhile show!
Avatar 5:35pm
Mr Fab:

Bill Cosby is on my "Never Was Funny " list. Along with Red Buttons, Jack Benny, Dennis Miller...
Avatar 5:35pm
spacebrother:

Pretty good Shat dance for this one.
  5:35pm
John R.:

SBG: Sweet! 👍
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm
Austin Rich:

Red Buttons I never got. I got caught up in Dennis Miller fever while he was on SNL, but by the time he had his own show, I think he'd lost the thread.

Jack Benny is really hit or miss. I think the supporting cast on his radio show do most of the heavy lifting. He was sort of one-note, for the most part. It was really the one joke...
Avatar 5:37pm
spacebrother:

@ Fab - Cosby used to be funny for me as a kid, the others, totally agree.

The Miyo Crusaders one I mean…
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
WR:

Have heard a few Miyo Crusaders recordings (on WFMU), with their mixing of styles and sources. Fun band.
Avatar 5:47pm
spacebrother:

@ WR - "Miyo" is a type of traditional song sing by workers, sumo wrestlers, etc. The Miyo Crusdaders are a Japanese Band that rework the songs as cumbias, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
Austin Rich:

Thanks for getting me in the radio mood.
