	♥ 10:40pm Franco Twinkie: Exactly! Two aspect of this album cover that show he was still developing into an iron clad stylist that he would not repeat: A light sky, and super saturated color in the foreground. Green is a dragon that must be slayed at all costs!

	10:43pm rw: Evening! Speaking of album covers... we were talking at work the other day about the olde-timey motif in psychedelic culture. Where did that come from? Keef Hartley cover is an example.
	♥ 10:44pm Franco Twinkie: I think he dispensed with humans altogether later on in favor of mythic beasts, but I could be wrong.
	🥁 ♥ 10:44pm Discotech Underground: RW-Not entirely sure. A lot of San Francisco 60's art and graphics had an old west theme to it as one example.

	♥ 11:04pm Franco Twinkie: Stanley 'Mouse' Miller and his partner would go to the central Library on MacCallister with a straight edge and a razor knife and 'borrow' images from old books in the musty basement. Ten festoon them with swoopy lettering. Kelly was a motor cycle pin striper and Mouse painted monsters in hot rods at car shows.

	♥ 11:08pm StringOFperils: A lot of that stuff is lifted from European art-nouveau posters from 75 years earlier, early advertising. Alphonse Mucha, Toulouse Lautrec, stuff like that. Their scenes were not that dissimilar, eruptions of the new...and all that jazz

	♥ 11:24pm coelacanth∅: i bought these speakers c.1979. it could've been 1980, but a discontinued model at the time -so '70s equipment!

	♥ 11:26pm Franco Twinkie: The speakers I grew up were Jensons hooked up to a Bogen RP60 tuner. It's been downhill ever since.
	♥ 11:26pm coelacanth∅: my turntable's from the 70s, i think. my receiver's from the 80s or 90s and i have cassette decks from pre-1980. and an 8-track recorder/player.

	🥁 ♥ 11:26pm Discotech Underground: JVC JA-S71- I just have a couple of smaller Aiwa speakers hooked up to it because it is all the space next to my work station will permit. I have a pair of Infinity that I am going to try out at some point as well.

	🥁 ♥ 11:28pm Discotech Underground: My turntable is a 1979 Technics SL-D1 that I bought new for $88. It still runs and I just had it rehabbed and new cables put on it.
	♥ 11:29pm coelacanth∅: genesis. couldn't tell you the model but has a large midrange, a tweeter and a large passive radiator. hardwood, ~30" tall. heavy.

	♥ 11:32pm StringOFperils: I used to have an AR. Gave it to a nephew. Pretty strange arm on that thing. But I should have kept it
	🥁 ♥ 11:37pm neveract: @Kip .. I got really broke right after college and had to sell my SL-D2 dammit. But later got a pair of SL1200 Mk5's. Hoarded some M44-7's for mono vinyl.. using Ortofon Concordes for stereo discs.
	🥁 ♥ 11:38pm Discotech Underground: StringOFPerils-Mine has been customized to fit the big 16 inch transcription discs radio stations used to use once upon a time. It has come in handy for that. I am not a fan of belt drives, though. I prefer direct drive turntables and always have.
	🥁 ♥ 11:39pm Discotech Underground: neveract-Somewhere I have an original vintage Ortofon Concorde that needs a new stylus. I should get it back out one of these days and see if I could find a replacement that would fit it.
	🥁 ♥ 11:40pm neveract: @Kip I 100% agree on DD's! I had to make do with a belt drive for a few years while I was extra poor..lol.
	🥁 ♥ 11:41pm Discotech Underground: I love the SL-D1 because it is FULLY manual. I have never been a fan of automatic anything when it came to a turntable.
	♥ 11:42pm coelacanth∅: my first turntable was a semiautomatic dual (tone arm lifts at end of side, power shuts off. no mechanism to return it. less to break was how i saw it.) belt-drive, wooden frame. i loved it but i apparently wore out the spindle? the records wobbled. got a used one with a broken something at the base of the tone arm, same model but a few years off. the parts were not interchangeable. cds had then taken over and dual stopped making parts. dumped 'em both.
	♥ 11:42pm StringOFperils: Oh wow. 16 rpm discs. Very esoteric. Trying to imagine what that platter looks like (you don't have to explain, ha ha)
	🥁 ♥ 11:44pm Discotech Underground: StringOFPerils-No, 16 INCH discs...they are 16 inches in diameter. They were used by radio stations and broadcasting outlets up until the early 1960's and were never commercially available.
	🥁 ♥ 11:45pm neveract: @Kip I was a stupid 17 year old when I got my D2. I like everything manual now.. cars too. A semi-luddite I suppose.
	♥ 11:46pm coelacanth∅: i liked the belt drive because i could apply the discwasher to the spinning record and not worry about damaging the motor. there was fluctuation though. and i love my direct-drive techniques now. no discwasher's gonna slow that down anyway!

	🥁 ♥ 11:49pm Discotech Underground: String-No, they run at 33 1/3 most of the time, but there are some that run at 78 speed. They were used in broadcasting mostly but were also used to go with educational film strips sometimes as well.

	11:50pm rw: My favorite 16 rpm moment was in a room with a dimmable light bulb and a Gregorian chant LP at half speed.

	🥁 ♥ 11:51pm Discotech Underground: 16rpm albums were mostly spoken word. I have seen a lot of religious sermons on albums that play at 16rpm.

Discotech Underground is actually two...two...two shows in one!

The first half is a "Happy Hour" of sorts (because it's five o'clock somewhere, right?), spinning the kinds of sounds you might have heard at a real, authentic 1960's DISCOTECH as cool cats and swingin' chicks danced the night away in their mod threads and mini skirts to hard-driving sounds under the flashing lights! The only thing missing are the cage dancers...but we're working on it!

The second half is for when you head home after a wild night, and ease in with the heady, trippy, mind-expanding sounds of a groovy free-form UNDERGROUND rock radio station that digs deep into their library and blows your mind all over again!

	♥ 11:42pm coelacanth∅: my first turntable was a semiautomatic dual (tone arm lifts at end of side, power shuts off. no mechanism to return it. less to break was how i saw it.) belt-drive, wooden frame. i loved it but i apparently wore out the spindle? the records wobbled. got a used one with a broken something at the base of the tone arm, same model but a few years off. the parts were not interchangeable. cds had then taken over and dual stopped making parts. dumped 'em both.
