I just watched 45 minutes or an hour of the new Batman movie.

This is a movie I’m planning on watching in shifts.

Since then I’ve taken a massage pad I got two years ago from my birthday,
I draped it over the nursing glider we got for my daughter before she was born 12 years ago this Wednesday.

I’ve taken the past and transformed it in the present into a gliding massage chair with foot rest.

I’m thinking about having a beer. That sounds like a great idea. Then maybe a walk.

Daybreaks Thinking Thoughts πŸ’:

I work in a giant high school and we have a police officer with a local police office across The hall from the gymnasium. We have a resource officer that cycles out every year so that everybody in the department can be close to the kids, interact with them, make it more likely that they will talk to the police and not be afraid of the police.

Once the school day starts there is only one unlocked door.

However nothing would stop someone from driving up the driveway and pointing an AK-47 with armor piercing rounds at the front of my school strafing it.

There are full windows on full hallways of ground level classrooms that run forfour long blocks in a row.

Unless you deal with the guns and the ammunition that are war grade weaponry you are saying that no one can be guaranteed safe in their school, in their town, in any business, in any church, in any grocery store, in any space.

Daybreaks Thinking Thoughts πŸ’:

Agreed Todd.
There are no easy solutions, but you start with the most difficult, impractical decision and then you work backwards from there.

For instance at my public school the police could take three hours on Monday morning to search every human being that goes up the driveway, our persons, our bags, our cars.

Once that’s done we go up the hill to the school and we stay there. We would have to build dormitories. But we would sleep at the school.

None of us would leave until Friday afternoon.

They could also have people at the bottom of the driveway searching any vehicle that wants to come up the driveway.

That of course is a completely untenable solution.

But you don’t give up here, you work backwards from this point until you find the compromise between safety and convenience and The students, the teachers, the custodians, the administrators, the food prep people’s peace of mind.

You will get to an acceptable Solution eventually.

Once you do that and then also remove military grade weapons, automatic weapons, raise the age for purchasing a weapon until at least 21.

Then if you really want poetic justice you could pass a individualized bounty hunter law, like the Texas abortion law, which rewards anyone financially who is able to prevent someone from using a weapon who shouldn’t have a weapon. And or reveal that someone who is unstable in someway has a weapon. That person would then be tried and both owe the government and the person who caught them money.

  4:51pm
Victrola Tom:

Real background checks, waiting periods for firearm purchases, liability insurance for each gun owned, ban on large capacity magazine semi-auto rifles, limit to 4-5 rounds tops, and a mandatory government-funded buy-back for the 4 million privately owned assault weapons already out there. There, that’s a start.

It's not about taking them from hands that have. But simply not putting them in the hands of the unstable. Thar is what they fear, which is the real stupid part. 'Responsible' Gun Owners should be the ones supporting Responsible Acquisition of Weapons. This is how Civil societies function.
  5:18pm
Victrola Tom:

@scott67: but there are guns that no private citizen, responsible or not, has a need to own. We need those off the streets. Bans on weapon sales are meaningless with 4 million assault-style weapons privately owned in the US. By the way, at the time of the 1994 assault weapon ban signed into law by Clinton, there were 400K weapons of that type in the US. The sheer volume is frightening. There are more guns in private homes than there are citizens at this point.
