Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Peter from Dover NJ:

Wishbone Ash, OMG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am yerfriendpaul:

Hey everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am NotARealDoctor:

Good morning again, can't believe I'm hearing Dusty again for the first time in 5 years!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am G:

I recall the first time I heard Starcastle -- my college roommate was a director at the U Michigan Ann Arbor student station in 76-78, and one day he told me I had to come down and listen to this record that had come in, because I knew a lot about prog. He throws on the first Starcastle album in an unused studio. I was underwhelmed at first (derivative...?), but they are really not bad at all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Woo:

Crack The Sky. Big in 1975
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Starcastle reminds me of Yes with a guitar player who could play a more standard rock solo. I mean, I'm sure Steve Howe _can_ do that but it hardly ever happened (and not a complaint)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am dale:

'bout time you can play what YOU want.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am YETI BOB:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Vincent Nifigance:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Avatar 9:10am Fredericks:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am LCBD:

Vincent Nifigance! I'm happy that you are happy! I'm happy too!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Bernardo:

Pidge…you could call it “Pidge After Dark” it doesn’t make sense but it sounds cool
Avatar 9:10am TDK60:

I saw Uriah Heep once. That was enough. Hee..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Vincent Nifigance:

Top o’ the heap!
  9:10am Glistener MW:

I thought I’d time-travelled for a moment seeing “The Dusty Show” on the app face! Looking forward to these next 3 hours during an overdue spring cleaning ⭐️ 🏰
  9:11am Sean Fahrrad:

Bonus Clay Pigeon??

It's like we all piled into a DelOrean time machine and got shot to the 70s

Hell YEAAHHHHHH!!!!!
Avatar 9:11am HyperDose:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am James in ATL:

A double dose of Clay! I'm all in! Who wants coffee?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Handy Haversack:

Yeah! Uriah Heap!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Vincent Nifigance:

@LCBD! Best day ever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Hughie Considine:

This is like all the bands on the inner sleeves of records from the '70s who I never actually listened to. I figured Uriah sounded like this. Obv. a big influence on Jack Black.
  9:11am Sean Fahrrad:

I'LL HAVE DECAF!
  9:11am Tom from Stirling:

Wishbone Ash had a good album cover. (dont say ash say arse)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Edgar from Maine:

Reminds me of sitting at a stoplight in my '75 Maverick putting the car into neutral to keep it from stalling out. As long as the music was good, I couldn't hear the honking behind me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Peter from Dover NJ:

Clay, kicking astronaut and firing on all cylinders!
  9:12am Accordion To Phil:

I love when Clay progs out!!!!!!
Avatar 9:12am Clay Pigeon:

Here but scrambling! Filling in for JOe. Thanks for hanging out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am medson:

This is like one half of Clay vs Fabio minus all the marathon chatter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am G:

@Woods: Howe has said in interviews over the years that there were so many top-shelf blues-based UK guitarists already by 1970 that he wanted to do something different -- find or create a less overcrowded niche, in a way. He also mentions that Brits have a tendency to be very eclectic in their influences, and he tried to do that.
  9:12am carrots:

Yeah Pidge!
  9:12am Glistener MW:

I hope Joe’s okay! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Vincent Nifigance:

@Clay unlike the Kubrickian level of meticulousness you used to put in!
  9:13am Booz:

The triumphant return of Dusty!
Avatar 9:13am Clay Pigeon:

Joe's OK
Swag For Life Member 9:13am Bucksomcounty:

We used to listen to the Dusty Show and had you pictured as a 20 year old small mousy, glasses-wearing nerd type. When we met you at Maxwell's, what a surprise - to see this tall beautiful, sexy rock-n-roll god that is Clay Pidgeon!
  9:13am Danimal:

Uriah Heep?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Threemoons 🌛🌕🌜:

WHOA MORE CLAY Um, is Joe McG OK?
  9:14am Tom from Stirling:

Steve Howe's fingers reminded me of spider legs
  9:14am Derek in Atlantic City:

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict some Grand Funk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Hughie Considine:

I heard Uriah hit the crapper
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

@G: Oh, I totally get that. The cool thing about Howe is that nobody else sounded like him. I think of the stuff on Close To The Edge. Unique.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Handy Haversack:

I imagine at some point Clay had to shout, "Warwick! Bring me prog!"
  9:14am Sean Fahrrad:

I'm gonna donate money to the station for this
Avatar 9:14am HyperDose:

Hey 🌙🌙🌙 glad you could make it!
Avatar 9:14am Fredericks:

How long before The Funk's inside Looking Out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Listener John from NJ:

Wow! It's England's own Uriah Heep! Does this still clock in at 10:23? (I enjoy the 0rchid 0rchestra most when it's the magician's birthday . . .)
Avatar 9:15am V Priceless:

Box!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am The Oscar:

Imagining Joe tied up and gagged on the other side of the studio while Clay goes rogue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am PaulRobeson1922:

Good morning 1 & all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am dale:

have any rawk from guitars with two or three necks?
  9:16am Tom from Stirling:

Vangelis would be good at some point in the next three hours. With Jon Anderson, that would be good. Right?
Swag For Life Member 9:16am Bucksomcounty:

..Just picturing that, Handy!! HAHAH!
  9:17am Paul in the OC:

3 bonus hours of the Pidge? Man you are going to be completely off your nut by noon! (good thing that) Keep the Prog going, looking forward to some Starz, perhaps—the morning needs ya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am karlward:

I imagine there is a fog machine and a lights and sirens rig up on the roof, which is only turned on when the Dusty Show is on the air. Pedestrians on the street below wondering aloud where the purple prog fog is coming from. Mothers holding their children closer as they hurry past. "Don't listen to the solo little Timmy, else the solo will listen to you!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am queems:

WHAT IS HAPPENING
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Fishtown Mike:

Hah, I figured the Magician's Birthday was due to a bran muffin & black coffee situation, but probably just a mad dash to the record library.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Bernardo:

I was thinking I’d miss those radio aliens Joe plays…but if we’re gonna rock it this hard I’ll get over it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Vincent Nifigance:

@queems The best thing imaginable.
Avatar 9:17am Fredericks:

Yes, Oscar and Joe's eyebrows are at his hairline.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am James in ATL:

  9:19am Accordion To Phil:

Clay! There was a Friday morning a while back, Johnny Allen was late, then you guys had a debate and you played the sickest most hippie prog song ever. What was that?? Was it about rainbows or somethin. It was EPIC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Vincent Nifigance:

@queems could happen, give it a few more minutes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am luka:

Ted Gioia interview enclosed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am Vincent Nifigance:

@Buddha Claymas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am G:

@Tom: Weirder than his fingers, and spasticky body stuff, is that he got to looking very old already by the early 00s. Maybe that vegetarian diet since the early 70s haha.I was on a Portuguese-language/Brasilian Yes discussion board back then, and they started to nickname him Caveira (Skull).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Officer Pupp:

There are an awful lot of bands from this era that I know by name but have never knowingly heard - I suspect today is going to be a useful primer.
Avatar 9:21am Buddha of Suburbia:

Clay, you’re still here!!! This is a party!!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Hughie Considine:

One of the great fancy-pants solos in the Stones canon, played by session ace Wayne Perkins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Vincent Nifigance:

@Buddha it was my destiny.
Avatar 9:23am Fredericks:

The Stones do sound great. Except for the extra vocalist.
  9:24am Tom from Stirling:

@G: that's a very apt name for Steve Howe. He looks very skeletal. My brother calls him the crypt master.
  9:24am Kenny rotten:

Who ever plays lead guitar on this Stones song does a good Mick Taylor imitation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am G:

@Woods: Yep, that opening guitarwork on CTTE is nuts. Even more so if you find the isolated-guitar version on the www, where you hear all the details better. The guy did get voted top by readers in Guitar Player magazine in the mid 70s, till they retired him after 5 straight wins so others would have a shot.
Swag For Life Member 9:24am Bucksomcounty:

My HS band teacher had a sign in the room that said "mediocrity stinks". Carried that with me all these years. Say it to my kids all the time. That and him grabbing his tie and pretending to hang himself, is I wasn't "swinging" enough on the songs (swinging like hanged man). Granted that memory has much less utility in life. You're making wanna drag out the ol' soprano & flute. Bet the pads are like shoe leather now tho.

I love the doors. I always thought the issue was people either 1 trying too hard (Doors are popular so you have to poo poo them) or 2 hate Jim Morrison. Which is fair, the man was not a great poet, and seems like a bit of an ass, or 3 you've just heard them to death. Any band that still gets air play on the robot radio has that problem I think to some degree.

God damn you, Clay, I'm trying to work and lurk but you're making it awful tough with all the Omaha references (I lived there for five years), Mahavishnu, arena prog-rock, and now Ratt. First big rock show I saw was Ratt with an up-and-coming Bon Jovi as the opener, Hirsch Coliseum, Shreveport, 1985. And Ratt's Warren DiMartini is an underrated guitarist.
  11:24am My Mom:

Btw Jim Morrison is misunderstood for too many reasons to go into.

In brief he was branded by bad musical writers and opinion makers of the era.

He had more depth than they could get. And he lived to mentally screw with them.

Great shows today, Clay! 6 hours & straight into Joe B! What a Monday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am G:

Bruford (so he says) left Yes because (1) Yes members always endlessly argued about arrangements, beyond any point B thought; and (2) Squire was always always always late for things, which annoyed B as the other member of the rhythm section, and also the band vehicle in early years was always speeding like crazy to make gigs because of S's chronic lateness, and B thought he was gonna end up getting killed.

Your comments on Carly Simon's tune almost made me cry. We saw Ben Taylor (Jame's & Carly's son) a few years ago live & he did that song. It was incredibly moving.
