Totally in love with the sun today. It’s a beautiful day here in northern New England. The flowering trees and daffodils and tulips are in bloom, and the trees are JUST leafing out. ‘Twas a nice ride along Rt 63 on my way to work.

It was an especially fine May afternoon in his small NorthEastern providence in that HyperBorean region of the People's PostApocalyptic Confederation of DemocraticSocialist Technocracies ...yes, the Economic Plan of the New Century had resolved most societal injustices - & what now seemed the Medieval reactionary structures & policies of the old century seemed ever more remote & receding... But the Climate Crisis had just been accelerated by the brutal & bitter conflagrations of the Great Conflicts ...& he knew this intemperate blue sky before even Memorial Day was a kind of Fool'S Paradise ...indeed, it was somewhat his 'Job' (to use the quaint but persistent old-fashioned terminology) tp monitor these grave matters...

Hello, Scott Williams and all!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm YETI BOB:

Bobby Conn is a real interesting character. Saw him play in a version of Faust once, at the Empty Bottle in Chicago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm YETI BOB:

Getting tapped by Zappi and Jean-Herve must really be something!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Polyus:

I saw him play with Faust as well, though it was at a festival in Chicago.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:25pm paddy in matawan:

weed is not a drug, maaaahn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm YETI BOB:

Polyus: I might be mixing up gigs. I was at that festival too (at Thalia Hall), I thought it was criminal that they cut Faust's set short for some headliner I didn't even care about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm G:

We had to sing this song ("Brasil") in chorus from the stage for my high school graduation in Brasil (late 70s)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Handy Haversack:

And hate to wash. And wash to love.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Gurldoggie:

Good information G! I'm a real fan of the 1970's Tropicalia records, but the wordplay often escapes me. The whole clan of revolutionary Brazilian artists were brilliant on so many levels, just blows my mind.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Will the Sound Guy:

Yeti Bob, that's a travesty. ... how dare they cut off Faust?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

+ Tropicalia +
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm YETI BOB:

I kind of hate festivals for that reason. Too much time given to bands I don't want to hear and not enough to the bands I do want to hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm G:

@Gurld: It's super cool and worthwhile stuff. And often the subtext of the lyrics is political, during the military government after the mid 1960s. One way they could get that message out under censorship. Some went into exile, of course.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:29pm tim from washington:

@Yeti and Polyus - I was at the Friday night show if that Festival with Royal Trux and Lightning Bolt. Jennifer Herrma was WEIRD that night. I forgot who headlined over Faust on Saturday.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:29pm paddy in matawan:

Baseball rat was a real treat last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm YETI BOB:

Tim: it was Chelsea Wolfe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm YETI BOB:

whever booked that had their head somehwere it doesnt' belong
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Polyus:

To be fair to Chelsea Wolfe (the headliner) Faust *did* take a really long time to set up and get moving. They were great even in an abbreviated form but it kinda felt like they weren't really being mindful of the fact that it was a festival and other people still had to play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm ChukAmok:

Thanks for the Sunwatchers, Scott! Perfect day for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm YETI BOB:

Faust had an elaborate setup and some tech. issues. As soon as they got it all smoothed out, they were yanked off stage. I was pretty disappointed. The venue could have given them another 15 minutes. They are legends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@G: That's interesting in context of how hard they came down on the Tropicalia Artists ! Which Fascists always do anyway to Creatives, to be sure... I guess I knew they were doing that somewhat...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Will the Sound Guy:

Polyus and YETI BOB... did they let them finish the song they were playing, or just go full mute and lights out?
  3:32pm Clermont:

Great show. Loved the Fugs’ tune. Very pleasantly surprised when that one came on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm YETI BOB:

In 10 years people will still talk about Faust and probably not so much about Chelsea Wolfe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm YETI BOB:

Will: They finished a song, then asked if they could have a little more time, and were denied by whoever was running the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm ChukAmok:

Aw shucks, but I missed Cornelius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

In a world of absurdities, giving Faust 15 min.s is a contender...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:34pm tim from washington:

@Yeti - I've pretty much forgotten who Chelsea Wolfe is. To your point - haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Polyus:

I remember them playing more like 45 mins but that was a long time ago so -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm YETI BOB:

Faust played at the Empty Bottle in 2009 and 2018. My mind is so worn-out I can't remember which one of those shows I was at. Maybe both. I remember J.-H.P. jumping up on a piano and belting out "Les Petit Sons" - one of the best moments ever
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Will the Sound Guy:

If it were my stage, there may have been a different outcome.... is there a sound curfew where the show was that would have made them pust them out to give the 'headliner' x minutes of time? idk, just odd...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm YETI BOB:

Also, Zappi got up from the drum stool, wandered out into the audience, right next to me and Mrs. Y., and he said to her: "I just wanted to hear what it sounds like from out here", then went back up onstage
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm YETI BOB:

Will: Somebody was trying to keep the whole thing going "on schedule" but I'm not sure that was really necessary. But what do I know.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm tim from washington:

Thank you Scott! I love love love The Saints!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm YETI BOB:

Anyhow, too bad Zappi and J-H are not working together any more. Now we have 3 Fausts, but I'm not sure that's a good thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm van chinski:

I got into The Saints late but am so glad WFMU eventually got me into them. So good.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Will the Sound Guy:

It can be difficult keeping things ontime... i guess that's why many shows run on punk time...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Handy Haversack:

Shows in NYC have really turned hard toward punctuality, I've been noticing. Shit is *on time,* and if you're late you're likely to miss it. We have definitely missed some openers lately.
Avatar 3:42pm Monica:

nice:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm YETI BOB:

What a drag, Handy!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:43pm tim from washington:

@Handy - that seems to be a trend. For the longest time in my show going life it seemed like doors were at 8, show started at 9, first opener hits the stage at 11. Now shows seem very punctual.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Will the Sound Guy:

The main reason why bands and their techs need to have a system... precheck, preset, or otherwise help move things along...
Avatar 3:44pm Hubig Pie:

I was blown away by their punctuality
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm YETI BOB:

I thought the idea was to keep the audience waiting around for 3 hours so they drink more ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Polyus:

I remember sharing a bill with like 7 other bands the first time I played in NYC and being pretty impressed at how tight the evening was.
Avatar 3:45pm HyperDose:

Uh oh, Scotty's about to tell us about the birds and the bees 😳
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Gurldoggie:

Hi, Wild Neil. Are you in or near a fire danger zone in NM these days?
Avatar 5:20pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

Typical surface area for activated carbon is approximately 1,000 square meters per gram.
Ken, thanks for asking! My coworker's cabin north of Santa Fe is surrounded but not engulfed. This is near Mora, NM. I live in Albuquerque so I am relatively safe from fire but maybe not smoke if the fires get closer. I work in the East Mountains (Monzano Mts) in southern Tijeras NM and no fires here so far.

Pretty much everywhere, random drives thru Las Cruces. + Silver City to check the vibe, might consider departing the east coast once & for all. We've lived in Tucson before (throughout the '90s) and that's the winner. But had to kick the tires of NM...

top criteria: no winter for riding all year. Everything else is secondary.

Avatar 5:34pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

Tuscon is too hot but less poor. ABQ is poor but great climate. Phoenix is also hotter than hell. ABQ has mountains but no jobs. Riding road bike, mountain bike or motorcycle? ABQ gets COLD in the winter, we are at 5300' altitude!

@neil 5:34 - Tucson heat works for us perfectly. I was a bicycle commuter all year (esp. summers in 115F), trained for long-distance riding there. But now it's motorcycles. Can't stand putting it away for the winter. Best therapy.

Also yes. Having mountains handy is incredible. Hate PHX with a passion, it's got no soul, no funk, no sass. Tucson had all that; less so now, but still does a bit.
